22.01.2022 ENDS AUGUST 31st https://www.facebook.com/23146549325/posts/10158306527419326/

21.01.2022 Sadly a very relevant topic for our industry. Too many lives already lost. Almost every one of us here have lost friends, former colleagues, or classmates, to suicide. Vets and nurses face challenges and stresses on a daily basis. Currently due to the coronavirus, and social distancing regulations everyone is facing, we have had to adapt to a whole new way of being able to continue to provide care for your pets. Please, before taking to social media to vent your frustration...s, speak to US. We can’t fix the problem if we don’t know there is/was a problem. Before telling us our prices are too high for drugs or surgery, please remember, that unlike human medicine, we don’t have Medicare for pets, we don’t have the PBS to help cover our medication. What we DO have are phone bills, power bills, drug bills, purchase of and regular maintenance on medical & anaesthetic equipment and surgical monitoring equipment, laboratory equipment and supplies, and many other overheads. Without these, we can’t offer your pets the care they need. Also unlike human doctors, your vets and nurses have to know about more than one species, and the different diseases and problems specific to them all. Our patients can’t tell us where it hurts or how they feel. We have to use the knowledge of many years of education, plus blood tests, x-rays etc to help diagnose illness or injury. We are human, we are not perfect and not infallible. We all understand how much you love your pets, and worry about them when they are unwell. We do too. When our vets recommend those blood tests, or specialist ultrasound or referrals, we are doing it in the best interest of your precious pets, to provide best care, not just to make money. So many of us also form special bonds with many pets and pet parents, and have taken care of them from pups & kittens, throughout their adult life, and into their twilight years. When it comes time to say goodbye, it is heartbreaking for us too. Yes it is a stressful industry, yes it is a challenge, and yes, we really do love animals and want to do what we can to help them. However like everyone, we also need to earn a wage and provide for our families. We are all doing our best. Please be patient. Please be kind. To everyone. Kindness costs nothing Suicide is forever.
