25.01.2022 Indigenous Science Experience Online 2020 What can Aboriginal astronomy tell us about the night sky? How is our native flora used as bush medicine? What can we learn about sustainable living from 60 000+ years of Indigenous culture? Find out the answers to these questions and more during the Indigenous Science Experience. This is a FREE event but seats are limited RSVPs are essential. This is a live interactive event ONLY; it will not be distributed as a recording.... The Indigenous Science Experience consists of a series of workshops and presentations that will span across National Science Week (August 15-23). The sessions showcase a wide range of Indigenous and Western STEM presented by Indigenous secondary students, Elders and community members and STEM outreach providers from various organisations. Since 2012, the Indigenous Science Experience at the Redfern Community Centre has been highlighting the value of traditional and contemporary Indigenous knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and the relevance of science to our everyday lives. In 2020, our new online format will continue this tradition. This National Science Week event is organised by the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP), Macquarie University, and Redfern Community Centre. It is made possible through the support of Inspiring Australia and grant funding from the Australian Government. 15.01.2022 Uncle Boomerang was a highlight for us last week. We love it when he visits! This time he introduced traditional indigenous games to the children, sung lots of ...songs and had us all up dancing! The boys had the opportunity to have some didgeridoo lessons (only boys are allowed to play the didgeridoo; girls are welcome to play the clapping sticks). We also crushed ochre and discussed facial markings, while hand painting with the ochre. The children had an absolutely amazing lesson! Thanks Uncle Boomerang. We can't wait for our next visit during NAIDOC week. See more

03.01.2022 Our absolute favourite superstar resident Elder - Uncle Boomerang came to visit our centre again this week and the focus of our visit was learning about Aborigi...nal culture. We discussed Aboriginal names for native animals and learnt about the importance of the yarning circle and story telling in the Aboriginal culture. Uncle Boomerang also brought along his Didigeridoo and Jaden asked if Uncle Boomerang could ' play his tree' !! The children danced to traditional Aboriginal music while Uncle Boomerang played the clapping sticks. We admire Uncle Boomerang and his passion for sharing everything about his traditonal culture with us; we are learning something new each time he visits us and we always look forward to the next time. 03.01.2022 Indigenous Business is Open for Business Indigenous Business is Open for Business 94 followers 13h ... 13 hours ago Micro-Story 27: Burragun Aboriginal Cultural Services deliver a range of cultural experiences founded by Paul Craft (CEO). Paul says, I was a tour guide for many years working for various tour operators, then decided to start my own tours as most of the visitors were very interested in our Aboriginal history, cultural knowledge, and hearing our stories. COVID has severely impacted Paul’s business saying... during the first wave of COVID-19 we lost 14 weeks of work through cancelled bookings. This almost broke them, come June they started to receive bookings and rescheduling events. Paul says who knows what will happen...Now the Qld NSW border is closed we are losing around 4 bookings per week. So far Paul has managed to keep Burragun afloat he says To be honest we are just happy to be staying safe and virus free. Burragun Aboriginal Cultural Services aims to leave participants with a broader understanding of Aboriginal culture.
