25.01.2022 A moving and informative artist talk was given at Burra Gallery last Saturday by Kunyi June Anne McInerney, heartfelt with moments of joy and sorrow, a gift made possible through the support of Country Arts SA. Kunyi was taken from her mother Daisy McInerney, a Yankunytjatjara woman and placed in the Oodnadatta Childrens Home at four years old (1955). She was one of many Aboriginal children removed from their families between the 1900s and 1960s to be brought up in instituti...ons or white foster families. Kunyi has used painting as a means of reconciling her past and to share her stories so people can understand what happened to her and so many others. An honest and sensitive exploration of this time in her life, 'My Paintings Speak for Me' touches on themes of separation from family, loss of culture and struggle, all the while finding moments of joy in the hardship with other children in the Mission Home. On view 10am to 4pm daily until September 20. Thanks also to the Burra hotel for providing a venue where the conversations could continue with our own BRAG menu! Photo credit: Kerry Youde

24.01.2022 Burra Regional Art Gallery visited by Call Girl. Rhonda Shrimpton (Seyfang) Port Pirie rocked into the gallery today looking for the old PMG/Telecom/Telstra te...lephone room where she used to work in 1979 relieving the local call girls while Breaker Morant was filmed around Burra. Pictured here with Dawn Broderick’s head set and tidying up the system. Those who were in the gallery got the whole demo! Made her day and mine! See more

23.01.2022 At the Royal Exchange we are very interested in supporting locals. We are wondering if there are any local artists/photographers whom would like a platform to e...xpose their work? We have a large Dinning Room which would suit multiple pieces of work. We also have a large concrete canvas down the side of our beer garden which could suit a large piece of art. Any enquires please drop in and speak to Douglas or Vicki. - Exchange Team

06.01.2022 these are my stories from a dry remote place where my experiences were so different from what Australian children know today. I want to tell my story, so they dont ever do it again. They took away my family, my culture and who I could have been. These are not fairy tales. They are true and I want people to understand. Kunyi June Anne McInerney: My Paintings Speak For Me is currently at the Kapunda Community Gallery until July 19 and then heading to Burra Regional Art Gallery August 13 to September 20.
