15.01.2022 It's the first day of spring and the weather is beautiful. We have had a lot return travellers staying with us over the past few months. It has been lovely catching up with them all and hear the stories of how Covid has affected them all. We have also had a lot of new travellers to our park who are first time caravaners or people who usually travel up north but didn't want to be too far from home this year. This Saturday is the Howard markets. They start at 7am and fin...ish at 12pm. I went last month and got some beautiful avocados that were creamy and without any bruising to them. The fresh fruit and vegies are great. There is such a variety of stalls to see and spend your money at. Howard has so much to offer for a small town. Two supermarkets, great butcher and a bakery that has huge cakes and pies on offer. I had a gentleman ring me this morning raving about the bakery and the size of the cakes and how delicious everything looked in the shop. There is a great pub in town and the naughty coffee shop is always busy. We have a chemist, bottle shop, vets, post office, takeaway and hairdressers. Our pontoon has been busy with guest catching mud crabs, bream, flat head, prawns and butterfly fish. See more

13.01.2022 A bit of trivia for you this afternoon. The Channel-billed Cuckoo is the world's largest parasitic bird, its wingspan measuring up to 1 metre. The cuckoo is devious in the way it uses other bird species to rear its chicks-by working in pairs, the male cuckoo provokes host-birds into chasing it while the female cuckoo slips into the host nest to lay its eggs. She usually throws the host birds eggs out of the nest first. For several months the east coast region is filled with pterodactyl-like calls as the cuckoo apply this breeding strategy. One the chick hatches it is unwittingly fed by the host-bird until it is strong enough to fly north to Papua New Guinea. Some of the host birds that they use are Pied Currawong , Magpies as their eggs are similar size.
13.01.2022 A night around the fire pit meeting new friends and enjoying a few lemonades.
12.01.2022 This is another bird that comes to our park each year. The Eastern Koel ( Storm Bird or Rain Bird) is a migratory bird that arrives in Australia from South-East Asia to breed in spring. They have a very loud annoying call which you can hear early in the mornings. It nearly drives you crazy. The male has the glossy black plumage with striking red eyes, where the female has glossed brown upperpart, heavily spotted with white and black crown. These birds are a brood parasite, that is, it lays one egg in the nest of another bird. Usually a Magpie lark or a Red Wattlebird. When the Koel hatch it will kick the other eggs and baby chicks from the host bird out. The poor host bird has a real busy time keeping up with food to the Koel chick.

10.01.2022 The True Blue Caravan Club had a theme night where they had to get dressed up as something starting with the letter A. We had angels, anglers, axe murders and more. They had a lovely night. It has been a pleasure and a lot fun having them here with us. They certainly know how to enjoy themselves.
