25.01.2022 Every year on 22 September, cities across the globe celebrate World Car-Free Day, encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day. Part of the $1.5 billion City Deals package announced on the weekend to re-energise the Perth CBD includes $105 million to implement the Transport Plan to encourage more people to consider cycling, walking or catching public transport through the CBD by fixing some of the challenges with CBD transport, such as poor pedestrian access, incompl...ete bike paths and wayfinding. This funding builds on recently announced initiatives including the new Causeway Bridge for pedestrians and cyclists that will also improve the connectivity of Burswood Park to the city.

25.01.2022 Did you know? The southern section of Burswood Park is referred to as Charles Paterson Park. Charles Searl Paterson (1902-1967) was closely involved with the establishment of the headquarters of the WA Ski Association on the reserve along the Swan River at 201 Great Eastern Highway. The Swan River Conservation Board wrote to the City of Perth on 31 March 1967 suggesting that the reserve be named Paterson Park. The City of Perth acknowledged the letter stating that the City an...d the family of the late Mr Paterson agreed that the reserve be named the Charles Paterson Park. Paterson studied at the University of Western Australia and gained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1925. He took the post of Assistant Engineer at the City of Perth in 1929, and worked there for 19 years. He died on 22 February 1967, after a long illness. He was 65 years old. #tbt WA Beer & Beef Festival

25.01.2022 Another nine bollards on the old South 9 were vandalized last night. If youre using the path between Crown Perth and Optus Stadium after dark, please be aware that the lights have been turned off until the bollards can be made safe. And if you happened to see anything suspicious overnight, please report it.

25.01.2022 Woot woot! Matagarup Zip+Climb, Perth is officially open for registrations. Whos in?! Zip? Climb? Both?

24.01.2022 Lovely photo across the river towards the WACA, Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium, thanks to Gerry Prewett

22.01.2022 How are you feeling, petal? Even though weve been out of the worst of it for a while in the West, we know some people are still doing it tough. So if youre doing okay, why not share this amongst your friends and check in with them today? #RUOKDay... Jess Harwood Art and Illustration

21.01.2022 Keep Australia Beautiful Week, from August 17-23, is to raise awareness about the simple things we can do every day to reduce our impact on the environment and encourage action. Burswood Park Board is committed to reducing waste through litter. Whilst we strongly encourage our patrons to pack, take and dispose of their picnic waste at home, we also provide 30 waste bins at various locations throughout the park. This includes 13 recycling waste bins, to ensure waste is repro...cessed wherever possible. In addition, Burswood Park Board is a collection point for @Greenbatch. The public is able to drop off their clean plastics and cans off to us for collection and local recycling into 3D filament. Collection cages can be found in the Board Office car park at the corner of Victoria Park Drive and Glenn Place. Do the right thing. #kabweek2020

20.01.2022 We need your help! If anyone knows Jaida Yarran, her phone and bankcard have been handed in to our office. Give us a call on 9361 4475 before 4.30pm today, otherwise, well take it to her bank on Monday so they can call her. Phone is locked, no one has called (yet), and a FB search has not come up with any useful options.

19.01.2022 National Threatened Species Day is held each year on 7 September, the anniversary of the last Tasmanian tigers death in Hobart Zoo. The awareness day aims to encourage the community to prevent further extinctions of Australias fauna and flora, and to restore healthy numbers of threatened species and ecological communities in the wild. In WA, there are currently many species under varying threat of extinction, from near threatened to critically endangered, including the much loved quokka, numbat and potoroo. For a full list of WAs threatened species, click here. https://www.fremantle.wa.gov.au//Threatened%20Species%20of

19.01.2022 Just one more day of mask wearing, but the playground is open, and the BBQs are on, so come on down and make the most of the fabulous weather this weekend. You deserve it, Perth!

18.01.2022 A quick update on the progress of repairing the vandalism on the South 9 (former golf course between Crown Perth and Optus Stadium). As youre probably aware, temporary fencing has been installed. This is allowing us to continue to use the lights safely until they can be replaced. Unfortunately, due to delays with shipping in these strange times, replacing the damaged bollards will take longer than we would like.... So, while we know it looks kind of ugly, its better than no visibility after dark. Thanks for your understanding while we get it sorted permanently.

18.01.2022 Spring has definitely sprung in the Park! Why not head out for a wander and see how many species of flora you can spot? Feel free to share you pics below.

17.01.2022 We might have a tree or two in the park that would be perfect for this sort of caper! What do you reckon?! #fridayfunny

17.01.2022 First market for 2021. Weather has been very kind, so come on down before 12noon.

16.01.2022 Today is National Wattle Day. Golden Wattle (acacia pycnantha) was gazetted as Australia's national floral emblem in 1988. Australia is the land of the wattle. 1,210 different species of wattles, belonging to the genus Acacia, had been described by botanists by 2018. Nearly all of these (about 98-99%) ONLY occur in Australia, and more have yet to be described. Early British settlers around Port Jackson (now Sydney) used the pliant stems and branches of local trees as wattles ...to make the framework for their homes which were daubed with mud. These early homes were called "wattle-and-daub" huts. Indigenous Australians used wattles routinely for a very wide range of purposes: from food and medicines, to utensils such as digging sticks and barbs, weapons (clubs, shields, boomerangs, spear throwers, spear shafts and heads), for musical instruments such as clap sticks; firewood, ash, glues, string, dyes and waterproofing, sandals and head decorations, ceremonial items and seasonal signals. Wattles grow in nearly all parts of the Australian continent and Tasmania and often clothe the countryside with masses of green and bright golden yellow particularly in springtime in southern Australia.

16.01.2022 Ahoy there, me hearties! Thar she blows! Batten down the hatches, lads and lassies, its Talk like a Pirate Day, raising loot to support families affected by childhood cancer. Serious cause, funny stuff....

15.01.2022 Hands up if you know where this sign is located in the park? Once upon a time, it was planted with colourful annuals, but that was perceived to not be terribly water-wise or sustainable. Now, weve planted Society Garlic, a hardy perennial that prefers full sun and requires very little watering once established, making it a perfect addition to the park.... While its not *quite* as vibrant as it once was, the pink flowers are still pretty. If you have some pics of how it used to look, wed love to see them!

14.01.2022 It's baby bird season! Adults often establish their nest sites quite some distance away from natural water sources, so getting their family back to a wetland can involve crossing busy roads. If you see a family on the move that is at risk of vehicle strike, you may be able to shepherd the adults and their babies to the nearest wetland. Alternatively, you could stay with the family and get in contact with Western Australian Seabird Rescue on 6102 8464 for assistance.... In the meantime, please SLOW DOWN when driving or riding through and around the peninsula, including along Great Eastern Highway. Ross Fitzgerald

14.01.2022 Stay dry, people. See you next week, weather dependent.

14.01.2022 Facebook restricts Australian news Facebook has this week restricted publishers and people in Australia from sharing or viewing news content, in response to the proposed new Media Bargaining law. As you've no doubt heard, some government Facebook pages have been blocked as part of this approach. In the unlikely event that the Park’s Facebook page becomes blocked, you can still keep up to date on the latest news and events on our website, or follow us on Instagram, LinkedI...n and Twitter. We will continue to share information, programs, initiatives, and events to our community using the channels that are available to us.

13.01.2022 If you've been wanting to do something to help those that lost their homes last week, but weren't sure how, then why not share the love this week via Telethon Community Cinemas? ALL net profits (from every ticket, bean bag hire, popcorn, sausage sizzle, stubby of beer, hot coffee and the rest) from the screenings below will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund. ... Please note, tonight's session has been cancelled due to weather, but it looks like fining up for the rest of the week, so get outside and make the most of the relaxed restrictions.

13.01.2022 Today is World Photography Day, an annual, worldwide celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography. Be sure to share your best photos on social media and tag using #BurswoodPark and #WorldPhotographyDay.... Gary Tate

01.01.2022 This little fella (?) has been on a bit of an adventure today. Found himself a little lost, wandering along Glenn Place. Managed to hitch a ride back with our team before being released back into one of our seven lakes.
