25.01.2022 A very warm welcome to our new followersA very warm welcome to our new followers

24.01.2022 Here's an awesome virtual way to tour the world! starts at around 3pm, go on to the Messy Church- BRF youtube channell whenever you want during the broadcast.

23.01.2022 These are the activities for Saturday’s Messy Church At Home. They are very easy to do and lots of fun! Feely bag Materials needed: a pillow case; random different-shaped objects to go in it such as a teddy, a plastic bottle, a roll of sticky tape. ... What you do: Put all the objects into the pillowcase. Hold the top of the bag shut and invite others to try to work out what’s in the bag just by feeling them through the bag. Talk about: Whether they would believe you, if you told them what was in the bag before they felt it for themselves. Talk about the way that Thomas hadn’t been with the other disciples when they saw Jesus after he came back from the dead and he said that unless he saw and touched Jesus for himself, he wouldn’t believe Jesus had risen. Draw it! Materials: paper; pens or paint brushes and your choice of paint what you do: As this activity links into the story (posted below), ideally watch that and focus on these things as you draw/paint your response - Can you draw or paint what that moment is like for you as Thomas? - What can you see? - Do you go ahead and touch Jesus? -How are you feeling as you say to him, ‘My Lord and my God’? Talk about: How you feel as you are drawing or painting your response and watching the story. Meal idea: According to tradition, Thomas kept on believing Jesus was his Lord and his God and wanted everyone else to believe it too. He went as far as India and told people there about Jesus being alive again, even though it cost Thomas his life. To remember Thomas and his longing for everyone everywhere to know Jesus is their Lord and their God, how about eating a curry today? We would love you to share how these activities went, by posting them in this thread or sending an email to Anne. Hope you enjoy Participating in Messy Church At Home!

22.01.2022 Hi All. We recieved this offering from Fran... great job!! Please note that I have updated the settings on our Facebook page, so we are now able to receive posts (including pics). Sorry if anyone has been trying and couldn't upload. Please try again.

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Welcome to September Messy Church (still at Home). Inspired by our celebrations of Father's Day earlier this month, we are having a look at some fathers in the bible. How did you celebrate Father's Day? Were you able to spoil your Dad, give him a hug or a present, cook him a treat? Or if you couldn’t visit in person, were you able to phone or video call? Or maybe you got some mail away in time to send a gift? For those whose fathers are no longer with us, we ...hope you took a moment to remember them and the influence they were in your life. Of course, Father’s Day can be very difficult for those who have not had a good relationship with their father. We acknowledge that too and reach out in love to any feeling that way. Our hope is that the stories in this session might help you to know that God loves you like the best-of-the-best father, not the one you may have experienced. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to explore stores of fathers in the bibley: Read them in the Bible. (If you haven’t got a bible at home, you can access a free one for PC, table or mobile phone app here: www.bible.com) Look them up on YouTube. For the more dramatically minded: put on a show acting out the stories. Maybe the whole family could be supporting actors?! Here are some story suggestions: Noah lived faithfully in an evil world. He responded to God by building the ark as instructed, and in this way God saved Noah, his family and all the animals for a new start in the world: Genesis 6:6-10, 13-22 (and on into Genesis 7 if you wish) Joseph became the earthly father of Jesus, caring for Mary and protecting baby Jesus from harm: Matthew 1:18-24 and 2:13-15 The father of the prodigal son loved and welcomed his sone home, forgiving his insults and failures: Luke 15:11-23 (and on to the end of the chapter if you wish) Do you know any other stories of fathers in the Bible? Reply with a comment to let us know, so we can all look at them too! Art activity suggestions coming up in the next post...

20.01.2022 Activities: All Saints Votive Candle What you need: Empty, completely clean glass jars (smaller size works best)... Pencils/textas (paint optional) Paper Scissors Glue/sticky tape Small candle e.g: tealight Matches or a BBQ lighter What to do: Think of someone who was very important in your life and is no longer alive and try to draw that person, either from memory or by copying a photo. Alternatively, you can research saints and choose your favourite one to colour-in. Cut out your picture and attach it to the glass jar using either glue or sticky tape Add colour to the jar if you like, ideally use warm colours. Ask mum/dad to light a small candle and place it in the jar Put the jar in an area that is regularly used so that each time you walk past you think about the person/saint on the jar Talk about: what the person did that was important to you/ why you chose the saint For full explanation, look up All saint’s day on Pinterest A terrific table You will need: banqueting roll or a disposable tablecloth; paper; scissors; coloured pens; paper plates if you have some; sweets what to do: Decorate the table ready for your next meal, by giving it a party feel: draw on the tablecloth and make place name markers out of paper. You might want to make place mats, streamers and confetti too. Is there someone special who you could invite round to enjoy it all and eat with you, even if it’s just beans on toast? You might need to have some sweets for pudding as a special treat! Talk about how it feels to come home and find a special meal all ready for you, with people you love. Green pasture picture What You need: a big piece of paper or card (newspaper is fine as you’re going to glue things all over it); a pen; glue; scissors; ‘bits and pieces’: you could go for a walk and collect a bag full of leaves, grass, seeds, sticks and feathers, or you could cut up old magazines or bits of cloth and wool from home Our psalm starts in a beautiful, safe place full of food and everything else you need. For a sheep, that’s a green field of grass, clean water in a pool and a lovely shepherd to look after you and show you where to go next. What to do: Make a collage of this scene draw the outlines of the scene, then fill in the shapes by gluing on your bits and pieces, either with a green field, a pool of water and a shepherd. Alternatively, imagine what a beautiful, safe place full of food and all you need would look like for you, and make a collage of that, for example a den; a treehouse; a luxury hotel; a desert island or your bedroom. Talk about: the time you’ve felt safest and what makes you feel safe and happy at home, work or school.

10.01.2022 Messy Church at Home Part 3: Easter Egg Hunt And finally, because Easter usually involves eggs at some stage, here are some Easter Egg Hunt clues. Yum! I believe there are still no shopping limits on Easter products, but I do recommend some restraint!!

10.01.2022 Reflection: To begin with, I invite you to think about some of the characters we meet in our bible. Who are your favourites? A quick poll around our family suggested the following: Noah Genesis 6:9-9:17 David (taking on Goliath in the name of God) 1 Samuel 17... The disciples The book of Acts The Marys (their faithfulness during the crucifixion and resurrection) Matthew 27:55-56, 61 and 28:1-10 or Mark 15:40, 47 and 16:1-9 Now I invite you to think about other Christians who have gone before us. Maybe you have some people who modelled faith for you or inspired your own faith. Family, friends, mentors, people you knew and loved, or perhaps those you knew through books, tv, the internet Please take a moment to thank God for those people and their influence on your lives. I leave you with this thought The same faith that was with the first believers has been passed on throughout all of history, right down to us God’s current-day family. How will we continue that legacy of faith, trust and service to God? Perhaps you can think on this as you have a go at some activities See more

02.01.2022 Fathers in the Bible - Art Activities As you have a go at Jane’s art activity suggestions, listed below, think about the stories you have just explored (see previous post!) What can these father figures tell us about God’s love for us? How do these father figures model faithfulness to God? How could we live that way in our modern lives? Who do you know who is that kind of father figure to you, showing God’s love and modelling faith in God?... The analogy of fathers is just one of the ways that we try to understand God. Can you think of any others? Importance of our fathers. Materials: Pencils/textas; Paper. Draw a picture or write down what your dad does that makes him important to you. Fathers of the Bible. Materials: Thick paper/card; Pencils/textas; Scissors; Glue Think of a father from one of the stories you have looked at, draw a picture of what you think he looks like on a piece of thick paper. Cut out the picture, leaving a 2-3cm space below the feet. Draw a line extending from between the feet down to the bottom of the space. Ideally, each half should be approximately the same size Cut along the line, creating two flaps. Fold each flap upwards in opposite directions. Place the picture on a piece of thick paper, make sure the two flaps face opposite directions and glue the flaps to secure them.

02.01.2022 In case you missed it (or didn’t stay up all night!!)...

01.01.2022 Welcome again to Messy Church at Home for May. For those of you who are feeling creative, here are some activity suggestions from Jane. Try them either by yourself or as a family effort, and remember that we'd love to see some photos and/or comments! Bunting: Materials... Pencil/pen Card; paper or fabric Collage bits & pieces in red; orange and yellow Scissors Glue String/wool Stapler 1. Make a triangle template out of the card by folding it in half, making a triangle shape, and cut along the fold line. 2. Place the template on your preferred material, then trace around the template carefully. Cut out the shape. Repeat for as many bunting pieces as you want. 3. Decorate each piece of bunting with either the collage bits or pencils in patterns resembling fire or flame. 4. Cut a piece of string/wool long enough to hold all the bunting, ensuring there is also enough to be able to tie each end to display the bunting 5. Staple each bunting to the wool and, once fully dry, hang up in a prominent area. Talk about: the exciting, party feel to this time of year, when we celebrate the birthday of the church! Jesus’ first disciples were praying when they saw something like flames above everyone’s heads and knew it was Jesus’ Holy Spirit coming to be with them and fill them up to make them more like Jesus Paint Splatter Flames: Materials: Drinking straws Teaspoon Runny red; orange and yellow paint (or water with food colouring added) Paper Pens Glitter and glue (optional) 1. Draw a person’s head at the bottom of the paper 2. Use the teaspoon to add the paint/water just above the head 3. Blow through the straw so that the paint/water makes a flame shape. You could try blowing gently or harder and see what happens to the paint 4. Add another colour to make the flames look even better, add glitter if you want. Talk about: The first seeing the Holy Spirit of Jesus coming to them as ‘something like flames’ resting on each other’s heads, and hearing the sound of a mighty wind in the room where they were praying. What noise did your breath make as you blew down the straw? What do you think God’s breath sounds like? Meal ideas: Make cupcakes and decorate them with flame shapes using icing Make a flame salad using tomatoes; oranges; mangoes; bananas; strawberries or any other fruits that are flame-coloured. Cook a meal over a fire, or, if you have one, in a wood-fired oven. Ask a parent to handle hot objects Come up with your own meal ideas that involve flame or the colours of fire
