23.01.2022 Sad news to share with all Burwood folk. We regret to advise of the passing of Robbie "Warrior" Simpson, long time supporter and close friend to many at Burwood through the 70s and 80s . Brother of Burwood legend Ross "Simmo" Simpson, the whole Burwood community extends its best wishes to Simmo and family.

19.01.2022 We hear and advise of the passing of Bob Lloyd-Smith. Bob was a staunch follower of the club watching his long serving sons Steve and Peter play and enjoying after match social times in the rooms with his wife Maggie. Bob famously video recorded a number of the Burwood finals games during the 1980’s notably one year standing on the Oakleigh VFA change rooms roof to record the game.... Our thoughts are with Steve, Peter and their wider families. Vale Bobby

16.01.2022 Great send off today for BJ with in excess of 300 at the service and a strong 80 plus BUFC family in attendance. Outside of what we knew, Barry was involved in many community sporting groups and passionate about his wider family. Clearly he has touched many people and the message was clear from all that we have lost a great person. BUFC was blessed in having him with us and then the years thereafter as a lifelong friend to many.... RIP BJ
15.01.2022 Four 'woodsmen' in typical pose. Jack's shout!
15.01.2022 We have been advised by Jack, Holly and Matilda Birkett that the service for our dear friend Rab will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday 17th September. Given COVID restrictions the service will be live streamed and details of the link will be provided closer to the day.
15.01.2022 Very sad to report the passing of Maggie Lloyd-Smith last night after a short battle with brain cancer. Mother of popular players Peter and Steven, Maggie was a fantastic supporter and volunteer around our club in the 80s & 90s and was loved by all. She was a pioneer in coaching being one of the first women to get a coaching gig of a mens team. The BUFC community send deepest condolences to Peter and Steve and the entire Lloyd-Smith family. Funeral arrangements to be advised in due course.
14.01.2022 I would encourage all life members who are attending Barry's funeral tomorrow to dig out their badge and where it with pride as we celebrate the life of a great man who brought success and enjoyment to our footy club.

13.01.2022 Don't forget this Sunday's function for BJ McLeod at the Central Club Hotel, 293 Swan St, Richmond - 1pm start. It's gonna be HUGE!
13.01.2022 And a second instalment, same game from 1987, 3/4 time. Commentators revealed, sound a little scratchy.

13.01.2022 It is with disbelief and deep sorrow that we advise of the passing of Ian Rabbit Rab Birkett on 31 August at the age of 60. Rab was one of our ten Club Legends. The footy accolades will follow below but Rab was a true friend of many. He enjoyed family, mates, a punt, a beer and a bit of music amongst other things. He provided the club with magnificent service and while in later years playing at some other clubs his heart was always with Burwood. A clear superstar of Burwo...od and the Eastern Suburbs Churches Football Association (ESCFA), the dominant player of his era and one of the all-time greats of Burwood and the ESCFA which has been recounted by many who saw him play, not only Burwood people. Rab, at age 11 started playing under the coaching of Jim Honey in the Under 15s with his older brother Don and through the junior ranks was clearly a class above. He played his best footy as a quick onballer but was equally dangerous up forward a renowned goalkicker with strong hands, lovely foot skills and ability to play multiple positions. He was the complete player and very resilient but most modest about his achievements. His greatest fans were his mother Jessie Baz and Aunty Beth AB who would park the blue Toyota Corolla behind the goals each week and barrack for the team. Honour roll: -Played in excess of 400 games with BUFC/Mt Waverley-Burwood -Numerous BUFC awards including leading goalkicker and James Honey Medallist -BUFC A-Grade Senior Premierships 1983 and 1985 -BUFC U 17 premiership 1976 - ESCFA U 17s League Best & Fairest 1977 - ESCFA A-Grade Best & Fairest (x4) 1985, 1987-88, 1990 - ESCFA Leading Goal Kicker (x2) 1985 (84 goals), 1987 (70 goals) - ESCFA representative sides -Southern Football Netball League League Best & Fairest Runner-Up 1997 -Captain/Coach Mt Waverley-Burwood -South East Football/Netball League Hall of Fame 2015 Our heartfelt condolences to Barb and Don; Lisa, Jack, Matilda and Holly; Sally, Haley and Jess and wider families. We have lost a football great, a son of BUFC, a BUFC Legend and a dear friend. Vale Rab. Once we hear of any funeral arrangements under Covid 19 terms we will post on this page. If you or anyone you know needs support call Lifeline on 131 114, or Beyond Blue on 1800 512 348.
13.01.2022 In all due respect to all who subscribe to the BUFC FB page, we as administrators would like to request that all future posts are strictly restricted to topics of a nature relevant to the history of Burwood Utd FC. Banter, photos, discussions, debates, etc that are clearly connected to BUFC are very welcome. But please direct other topics of humour or whatever nature to your personal "friends" contacts. Regards Jack, Willy, Sainta.

11.01.2022 Heartbreaking news for the Wooders today to learn of the passing of one of the club's most lovable characters, Trevor Morse. Morsey was a member of our successful 1983 and 1985 Premierships and was recognised for his fearless and tough approach to football. He was also one of the club's most mischievous and colourful characters and was fondly dubbed the 'villain'. The Burwood United fraternity extends its deepest sympathy to Lauren, Hayden, Warren, Graham and all his family at this sad time. RIP Trevor (11.5.58 - 9.10.17).
11.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed coach (1981-1987) Barry McLeod. BJ coached the senior side to A Grade premierships in 1983 and 1985 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. He continued to be a loyal friend and mentor to many from the BUFC community for over 3 decades and kept a brave and positive outlook as he battled his illness over recent times. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. R.I.P. Barry.
11.01.2022 The function last week will net in excess of $20k, a magnificent effort. The sum represents proceeds of raffles, auctions, door entry and donations with some amazing amounts provided in donations. A great day with over 130 in attendance in supporting our friend BJ. Well done Glenn Howard on being the key instigator. Many other shout outs to others (too many to mention) who helped out in whatever way including the speakers and prize donors.... All our best wishes to BJ now with his battle.
10.01.2022 Great turn out @ Flinders playing off for the Wally Stone Shield. 28 in all. A happy David Jones the winner.
