25.01.2022 Why does the gin and tonic duo taste so good together, but not so great apart? The answer is in the underlying chemistry. The chemicals responsible for the flavours in gin and tonic are broadly similar in molecular structure. Similar types of molecules attract each other to form ‘aggregates’ which taste different from how the substances taste on their own. These molecular attractions are the reasons why food pairings are so appealing to our senses.

24.01.2022 ECO-CONSCIOUS PACKAGING. We recognise that our packaging choices have the potential to impact on the environment, and as such, we have a responsibility to provide sustainable packaging solutions. We put a lot of effort into designing and procuring our packaging for minimal impact, and here’s what we came up with: home compostable pouches made with certified compostable laminates comprising plant-based raw materials; compostable sticker labels; compostable padding/cushioning;... recyclable boxes; kraft paper packaging tape. Our gin kits even come with recommendations on what to do with your packaging once you’ve finished with it. We’re proud of what we came up with, we know it’s not perfect, but we’re confident it has environmental benefits over conventional packaging, and we’re committed to seeking opportunities for continual improvements in line with our environmental policy. 19.01.2022 We just gave back!! We consider it important to acknowledge and support the environment and Indigenous heritage that underpins our business, and for that reason, we created our Giving Back Program. Through this initiative, we pledged to donate 2.5% of the profit from our Gin Infusion refill pack to Bush Heritage to support their inspiring work in conserving our magnificent landscapes and irreplaceable native species; and 2.5% of the profit from our G&T Tea and Spiced Bush... Wine to the Outback Spirit Foundation to support their work in providing Indigenous enterprise and people the opportunity to develop their ideas and business in an authentic Australian bush food supply chain. We’ve committed to making donations twice a year, and given that we’ve now been in business for 6 months, we celebrated by making our first donation to these remarkable organisations. See more

19.01.2022 Cucumber G&T Popsicles A fun way to enjoy your favourite classic drink, and simply perfect for cooling down during the summer’s heat. Method: heat 3 cups of tonic and 50g of castor sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Leave it to cool, and then add cup of lime juice and 175ml of gin. Add cucumber slices to your popsicle moulds then pour in the G&T mix. Freeze until set (at least 6 hours). Makes about 6 ice pops, depending on the size of your moulds. Hint don’t be tempted to add more than 175ml of gin alcohol has a lower freezing point than H2O, so if you make it too alcoholic, you’ll end up with slushies. Enjoy!

17.01.2022 Kombucha G&T This is our new favourite! Its built on the classic G&T, but there’s plenty of scope for getting creative with flavoured kombuchas and flavoured tonics. Here’s the basic recipe: ice + 60ml gin + 25ml tonic syrup (we used Tasmanian Tonic Companies Leatherwood Honey Tonic Syrup cos its awesome) + 100ml of plain kombucha + garnishes of choice (we used a slice of native rainforest lime, Tasmanian pepper berries and native riberries). Directions: add the ice, stir the gin and tonic syrup together in a mixing jug until combined and then pour over the ice, add the kombucha and garnish.

16.01.2022 We’re offering free Express Post to Victorian postcodes 3XXX. Offer available until 10th September 2020.

16.01.2022 Gin is a truly unique spirit! It can be made from countless botanical combinations, enabling distillers from around the world to source local botanical ingredients tied to their region, thus creating distinctive gins that reflect their corner of the globe. Here is but a small handful of regional gin botanicals.

For an optional Auzzie kick, we added 1 tsp of Tasmanian pepper berries and two pepper berry leaves. Heat and simmer gently for two minutes, remove from the heat and pour into heatproof mugs or glasses.

14.01.2022 Gin and Tonic Pancakes a delicious and fun brunch idea to try this weekend! These pancake gems are made using a G&T batter and the cooked pancakes are drizzled with a G&T syrup. To make the syrup, prepare a 250ml G&T and pour into a saucepan along with 3 tbsp of caster sugar and the juice of 1 lemon (save the zest for garnish). Gently simmer for a few mins until syrupy. Set aside. To make the pancakes, add 200g self-raising flour, 1 egg, 2 tbsp caster sugar and a 250ml G&...T into a bowl, whisk the batter until smooth. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons into a pan and cook 1-2 mins on each side. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve with the syrup drizzled over and garnish with lemon zest. We like to add an Australian twist to our recipes, so we sprinkled over some Sunrise Lime powder. Being a cross between the Australian finger lime and the calamondin, the taste is somewhere between lime and mandarin, and the colour is a stunning vibrant yellow! See more

13.01.2022 National Threatened Species Day is held on September 7 each year to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the last remaining Tasmanian tiger at Hobart Zoo in 1936. The day is an opportunity to turn the spotlight on native plants, animals, and ecosystems that are under threat and reflect on how we can protect them into the future. It is also a time to recognise and celebrate the amazing work that is being done to save them by passionate conservationists, researchers, volunteers, and community experts. What can we do? Spread the word, donate, fundraise, volunteer, attract wildlife to your garden, be a responsible pet owner, help reduce pollution and waste in your neighbourhood, learn about threatened species.

11.01.2022 We love that you’re loving the unique flavours and taste sensations of the Australian bush in your handcrafted gin. The Wild Citrus gin infusion, featuring wild lime and native citrusy herbs, is our most popular blend with its botanical line-up of finger lime, coriander, lemon myrtle, riberries, strawberry gum, Tasmanian pepper berries and tea tree. The next fav is the Bush Berry botanical blend, a combination of Australian bush berries and fragrant florals including muntries, coriander, riberries, rosebuds, wild rosella flowers, strawberry gum, Tasmanian lavender and Tasmanian pepper berries. Australia is blessed with an extraordinary array of native flora, so keep up the curiosity, perhaps try our All Tasmanian (Tasmanian natives or Tasmanian grown) or the Peppered Devil (a taste of the Australian bush with a devilish bite).

02.01.2022 Here at Bushcraft Botanicals we've been busy creating and testing new botanical blends to go with our gin infusion packs and gin kits. We’re calling it the Landscape Range, as each new botanical blend features native ingredients from prominent Australian landscapes. Can't wait to share!

01.01.2022 Gin & Orange Waffles Gin infused waffles served with an orange syrup. Yummo! Step 1 the syrup. Combine 250g sugar + 250ml water + the peel from 2 oranges to a saucepan. Stir to combine, bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Step 2 the batter. Mix 250g cream cheese + 2 eggs + 100g sugar. Add in the juice of 2 oranges (the ones you used for the syrup) and 75ml of gin. Mix through 200g of flour. Step 3 cook the waffles to your liking. We prefer... doughy and squidgy on the inside while being a golden brown on the outside. Step 4 Serve the waffles with the orange syrup (to which you might like to add a little extra gin ). Enjoy! Oh, and if you happen to have any orange syrup leftover, you could use it to flavour a cocktail. See more
