25.01.2022 Nothing like a nice cup of Pine/Spruce Needle tea. What Pines (Pinaceae) can you use for tea... that’s a long answer. In short pines with two fascicles or more are ok. The leaves of pine trees appear in bundles (fascicles) with the number of leaves/needles per fascicle being an important distinguishing feature. Some can have 2 to 5 needles per fascicle. In this picture I'm using white spruce (Picea glauca) to make a cup of tea while in Alaska. In Australia there are no pines... (Pinaceae) that are endemic. Radiata Pine (Pinus Radiata) was introduced from California and is widely cultivated and grown for timber and as an ornamental tree. To make pine/spruce tea, place a handful of spruce/pine tips into a cup of boiling water and steep for 5 minutes. Strain and serve as a relaxing beverage high in vitamin C. #pineneedletea #cuppatea #teabreak #bushcraft #survival #nature #naturesharvest #bushwalking

15.01.2022 This how to video shows the construction of a 3-4 man lean-to shelter using dead cabbage tree palm leaves as the thatching material. The video details the various stages in construction from the resourcing of the materials to the finished shelter, including the construction of a fire reflector and a springy bough bed. 11.01.2022 Gone Fishing. This is a fish hook based on an Alaskan Halibut hook which I was shown how to make on a Ray Mears Woodlore Course years ago. This one is made from Coastal Hibiscus and Ironwood for the barb. The lashing is tarred bank line but traditionally split spruce roots were used.... #bushcraft #bushcraftskills #primativeskills #primativefishing #handmade #survival

11.01.2022 New Episode Live Now In this episode I go camping in a private secluded spot on the mid north coast of NSW. We look at some essential lightweight camping equipment and make a digging stick to forage for local edibles such as mat-rush, native ginger, pencil yams, native parsnip, and cabbage palm. We also make a ground oven to cook an evening feast. On this trip I am also joined by my cameraman and friend David Hutton. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

09.01.2022 No pan? No problem. Poke a small expansion hole in the top of your egg and then place it directly on top of the hot coals and let it cook. Cooking time varies but a simple test is to poke a small stick into the expansion hole. Make sure you have a heat resistant glove to place it and remove it. #campfirecooking #survivalcraft

08.01.2022 Camping in Mora Sweden. I can’t believe it’s already over a year ago I was in Sweden for the @morakniv adventure. I had a few days of downtime before the course and in this episode I headed out to the Swedish woods for a 3 day camp.
