As well as being one of NSW most experienced Bushfire Consultancies we are able to create 3D topographical maps (see previous post) and we can also create 3D slope maps which quickly allow you to visualise the slope of the land without the need for endless manual calculations. This is great for quickly identifying suitable areas to build or areas to avoid. The aqua coloured areas in the map below are areas containing a slope between 0-5 deg, green 5-10, yellow 10-15, light red 15-18, dark red 18-20 and black >20deg. For example, the black areas in the 3D map below are steep gullies where it was difficult to walk let alone build anything! Time is money and these maps can save you both!

Bushfire Planning Services is one of a very limited number of Bushfire consultancies who offer advanced mapping capabilities. This capacity allows us to accurately determine the slope beneath hazardous vegetation which results in a more accurate assessment of your proposal. Our mapping is generally accurate to +/- 300mm and is perfect for feasibility studies before a surveyor gets involved potentially saving the client 000's of dollars.

01.01.2022 Heres a bit of a news update and bad news for anyone unfortunate enough to have to build in the Flame Zone. For many years the RFS has had a concession in place for glazing in the Flame Zone. The concession started years ago when no one was making Flame Zone windows and the FRL rated windows were cost prohibitive.To address this situation the RFS implemented what they called 'modified section 9 of AS3959'. This allowed people in the Flame Zone to use a BAL-40 rated window/doo...r under a security type roller shutter, combined the RFS accepted this as a Flame Zone alternate solution. Using this concession the average cost of addressing Flame Zone requirements for windows and doors was around $800m2. The concession was removed about a month ago meaning that glazing in the Flame Zone is now required to comply with the full requirements of AS3959-2009. I have been informed that the concession was removed due to pressure on the RFS from industry bodies/companies. Nothing much has changed since the concession was first introduced, I know of only two manufacturers that have a tested FZ window and they are roughly $2500 to $3500m2, a significant cost increase to the unfortunate people in the FZ.
