25.01.2022 A few more days and we'll be into spring. That means it's time to start thinking about firebreaks and mitigation work prior to the heat setting in. You don't want to see one of these bad boys hovering overhead... (Photo courtesy of Erickson Incorporated)

24.01.2022 With only a week and a bit to go before we get into the Prohibited Burning Period which runs from 1 November to 8 March annually most of us are preparing our properties to reduce the impact a bushfire can have. It's probably also a good time to reacquaint ourselves with the DFES alerts system. https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/# Remember the Blue triangles show current bushfires and the black triangles are burn offs. You can also find the fire danger ratings and information o...n total fire ban days. If you are not on the Toodyay Alerts Facebook page please go and join up. See more

18.01.2022 Some common sense answers regarding the intense fire season seen across Australia...

18.01.2022 It's been a busy week for this little Toodyay business with around 6,000 ks travelled to perform Bushfire Consultancy work around the State. Including a quick trip to Warakurna in a flying tin can near the ACT border to assess the local school for the Education Department. Tomorrow I'm heading to Vasse to assess the local School there. We cover the whole of Western Australia and we are always looking for people who require our services around Broome (hint hint). It is t...ime we all start to assess the risk at home for the coming fire season so if you need some guidance or are planning to build and require a BAL Assessment don't hesitate to call. On a side note last year our little orange fire truck which we put together to help the community got tested at a number of fires around the Shire, this year we have made some improvements and we'll make it available again to assist our Brigades when possible this season. www.bushfireprotectionaustralia.com.au ph. 0487 825 844 See more

11.01.2022 Here's an interesting article on using Fire to fight Fire. Using carefully planned burns to reduce fuel loads is one of the most effective methods to reduce summer bushfire risk. It is also a lot less devastating than an uncontrolled hot fire during the summer months. https://www.bnhcrc.com.au/news/2020/fighting-fire-fire

05.01.2022 October brings us into the Noongar season of Kambarang, the beginning of warmer and drier weather. It's also when many people start thinking about their bushfi...re preparations ahead of summer. After our warmest September on record and a Watch & Act bushfire to end the month, the time to prepare is now. Here are a few things you can do; Prepare your property - Many Shires are now in Restricted Burning Period, which means you will require a permit to burn. Check your local government website for more info. Check your Bushfire Plan - If you don't have a plan, head to www.dfes.wa.gov.au/firechat to get started. Having this information ready beforehand will help you make the right decisions during an emergency to keep your family safe. Know where to go for info - www.emergency.wa.gov.au is the official website for Alerts and Warnings as well as Total Fire Bans and Fire Danger Ratings. You can also call 13 DFES (13 3337) or listen to your local ABC Radio for updates. Nathan Garrington from East Swan Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade

03.01.2022 For anyone in Toodyay the proposed Fire Chat won't be till mid January. For anyone who is interested and after some lengthy discussions with the finance lady here , my insurance and the FPAA I will be offering to do site visits and provide verbal guidance to help prepare your property to be fire safe on Friday the 20th and Monday the 23rd December. We officially close on the 19th but what do you do... There will be a substantially reduced fee as these site visits are going to be priced to just cover professional indemnity and public liability insurance, accreditation fees and admin costs. We have to hold insurance for each assessment for 7 years after the date of assessment... If you think you would like to take me up on this please send me a pm for details. There will only be probably 10-15 spots available over the 2 days. Cheers Ben
