25.01.2022 At the lake, everyone split up and took their time looking at different points of interest. Even after all this time, I tend to rush ahead, when I am trying to teach being in a moment. I looked up and saw some of the group doing just that. Nature is our ultimate guide.
25.01.2022 Can anybody guess what floated up to us at beach kinder while we were in the water? Hint, it isnt a carcass. Which was my first thought
25.01.2022 Finally a natural predator for the canetoad. Aaand we love spotting purple swamphens at bush kinder. Let us know if you have them in your area. Hint: they are waterbirds https://www.australiangeographic.com.au//swamphens-have-l/

24.01.2022 We made a fish with shells, seaweed and driftwood that washed up on the shoreline.
24.01.2022 We love it at bush kinder when an older sibling has a day off school and joins in. Our younger children entered the creek with the encouragement and support of their their new big brother. #bushkinder #bushkindergarten #earlychildhoodeducation #teacher #outdoorlearning #sustainablefuture #sustainability #river #stream #creek #rain #mountains #bushkinder #family #water #STEM #kids
23.01.2022 Some days are so busy at bush kinder. Today we had extra mums, dads, grandparents and even international guests. We are very lucky to have such a warm, inviting group that made sure everybody felt welcome. Not everything always goes to plan but we still squeezed in some lessons, music, stories, experiments and exploration. The most important thing is that we are in nature with good company.
21.01.2022 Environmental solution for our runners and sneakers that have been loved to death. Problem 25 million pairs end up in landfill every year. Each shoe takes 1000 years to decompose.... Solution Recycle them at various locations in Victoria such as Rebel Sport, in a pilot program we need everyone to get behind so it will role out nationally. The link has specific locations and details. https://asga.com.au/sos/
21.01.2022 Willows were one of my favourite trees as a child. They provide coverage, shelter and inspire the imagination. They also softly embrace you in a way other trees can't. Does anybody else have a favourite tree from their childhood?
19.01.2022 First day of Autumn and still able to swim at sunset. The air and water is warm. So peaceful. How does everybody else cope with the heat? #summer #autumn #seasonschange #bushkinderteacher
19.01.2022 The Vic fundraiser needs more support
19.01.2022 If you looking to contribute this is one way. Other worthy causes welcome in comments.
18.01.2022 Despite being a top predator, mother salt crocs have a reputation for being fiercely protective and nurturing of their young....although this one may be going too far
17.01.2022 Feels lucky when you find a crab fully intact
17.01.2022 Energy swarms beside it like water to a drain, then simply disappears. The point of no return. The most disruptive part of the cosmos. The first black hole EVER recorded...AND in the constellation of Virgo of course (my birth sign ;) ) 3 years work well spent Dr Katie Bouman.
16.01.2022 Thanks everyone for standing by me personally as well professionally. I havent been able to offer extra classes, answer my emails or take phone calls for a few months now. I havent forgotten where my heart lies but I already have 60children in my care and on top of self care thats about all I can manage right now. But the community support around me is what keeps me whole and that feeling of generosity and reciprocity. As soon as I can, I will be offering more of my time again. Here is to looking after each other.
16.01.2022 I have this conversation almost every week lately!! The turtle/ tortoise talk that is...not the sex talk
15.01.2022 Do you ever see adults be sarcastic, mocking, agressive, dismissive or patronising with kids or other adults and feel sad for everyone involved. While teachers and parents are not perfect and have bad days and regret decisions they make...there is hope that if we recognise mistakes, we grow and learn from them. And for the adults who simply don't respect children's voices because THEY are the adult and #children SHOULD do what is expected everytime no matter what. ..
15.01.2022 Digital safety is important, especially for children who are not choosing when their photos are posted online. I deliberately don't name childrens names, our specific location or when and where we gather publicly. Here are some government tips for families/ educators posting in public forums. Lets keep our children safe https://www.esafety.gov.au/par/skills-advice/privacy-child
15.01.2022 Evertime I read aloud Eric Carles "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", I change his wording from cocoon to chrysalis. Without fail, I always get several complaints from children who insist it is a cocoon that the butterfly emerges from. In a literary sense they are absolutely correct, they have remembered the story with accuracy. But scientifically, the book and the complicit reader is wrong. My point is, that the brain attempts to hard wire knowledge constantly. But....the brain is not always right, which is why it remains neuroplastic. If we believe butterflies come from cocoons at age three....how many other hundreds... if not thousands of false beliefs must we hold onto as we age.
15.01.2022 Awareness is the first step
14.01.2022 Thats a massive reward for a little bit of work by each shopper. Be proud Australia and KEEP IT UP https://educateinspirechange.org//australia-cuts-plastic-/
14.01.2022 This term we are learning about all things water! The best place to start is where we find the most water...the oceans.. which make up 70% of our blue planet.

12.01.2022 It came up at bush kinder yesterday that regular baby wipes are not very eco friendly. Now I understand some mums already have enough on their plate so no judgment here for using store bought. But I've added a link with a simple mixture to make your own paper based wipes if you are interested. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wpfad7DaitE&feature=youtu.be
11.01.2022 Bush Kindergarten went rockpooling and what did we see??? A Blue Blubber Jellyfish looking at me!
10.01.2022 Ecology education....yes we know!! https://www.theguardian.com//coronavirus-education-pandemi
09.01.2022 Anybody have some creative children who would like to put their art on show? Free entry in Footscray.
09.01.2022 First Dawn Service since Colonisation to acknowledge the disposession of Australian Aboriginal people. If we listen to their stories of past and present, we can build a brighter future.
08.01.2022 I have added ballons to my list (straws are at the top) of things I adore but can no longer have. It is a sacrifice, but the images of sealife needlessly suffering with this plastic have floored me. Does anybody else have a list of things they have given up? Or some great alternatives to balloons?
07.01.2022 Quite used to seeing ducks in the lake...but a turtle?? Love our reptile friends.
05.01.2022 Violence and aggression on the other hand..
05.01.2022 Guilty I temporarily forgot. Great week for science. I remember telling people when I was 14 that whales had walked on land. Everybody laughed but I knew it was true because my grandfather had told me. It is almost a year since we lost him and he was due to be 97 in a couple of days. He would have loved this.

03.01.2022 My first spotting of the red rumped parrot. One guess how they got their name? There were three of them together, but this one was happy to stay close enough for some photos.
03.01.2022 Flight of an Eagle. I am awestruck by the journey this eagle has taken over twenty years.
01.01.2022 Moving further into our study of water, we explored clean water, erosion, turbidity and making a filtration device for dirty water.
01.01.2022 Every time I see an animal cry in pain from burns it makes me cry. Making even a small donation will help the mammoth job of giving the best possible care.
