25.01.2022 When nature makes your heart feel full Some beauties from K'gari - Fraser Island on a recent contract. We love our job.

25.01.2022 These are our latest Glossy Black Cockatoo artificial nesting hollows! ***We sourced pipe made from 100% recycled plastic! 95% is collected household food grade containers.*** We look forward to installation day and data collection into the future for this threatened species, the Glossy Black Cockatoo is listed as vulnerable here in QLD. We still have so much to discover in regards to nesting monitoring and can't wait to see a sassy little female make this her new nesting hollow You can see I have added a huge sacrifical chewing banch to keep her happy. Thank you to The Green Pipe for your excellent service and support #glossyblackcockatoo #threatenedspecies #bushlandconservationmanagement #nestboxes

25.01.2022 We thought some nature based play might be fun at this time, as long as you can get outside and into nature while still practicing social distancing safely This weeks 'Bush Kids' play is a Nature Scavenger Hunt ... Give your child a a list of natural items to discover such as a leaf, stick, a seed pod and get them to tick the box next to each item once they have been found! Please post your pics in the comments

24.01.2022 An update on all the hard work from The 2019 National Tree Day at Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve on the Sunshine Coast. These happy little natives loved the recent rain after coming through a very hot and dry spell. This revegetation will continue to flourish and connect to neighboring plantings and existing bushland creating corridors. There are habitat stack piles and existing Koala feed trees that should see more Koalas move into this ex cattle property over time. Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve is one of the excellent properties Sunshine Coast Council natural areas team has acquired under the environment levy funds. Our crew has been on site brush cutting and nurturing the revegetation. In times like these we know every single tree is important.

22.01.2022 We always look forward to our contracts working in the Great Sandy National Park and this time we were lucky to discover both the red and yellow form of the endangered Christmas Bells (Blandfordia grandiflora) in the Cooloola section hidden among the coastal heath.

21.01.2022 Another very humid day here on the Sunshine Coast at Yaroomba beach. Our crew are working hard along the hind dune targeting the usual suspects such as Asparagus aethiopicus - Asparagus fern and Passiflora suberosa - Corky Passion. Working in partnership with Coolum and North Shore Coast Care and the excellent work they and their volunteers contribute to our coastal areas. #CoolumandNorthShoreCoastCare #bushregeneration #coastcare

21.01.2022 How to photograph a frog - get down low and personal! They don't bite and, if you keep your light on them, they will usually stay still long enough for your pho...tos. This beautiful Giant barred frog (Mixophyes iteratus) is a huge female full of eggs waiting for the right conditions to give her offspring the best chance of survival. Get into Find a Frog in February this year - the rain is coming and the noise will be starting! Send photos or recordings of calls to the MRCCC via [email protected] Get your data sheet here or from the website MRCCC.ORG.AU

21.01.2022 The annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count starts today! The importance of citizen science projects like these are absolutely invaluable. If you can't download the app you can submit your sightings on the BirdLife website. Data collection is vital for many reasons when it comes to research of a species. This citizen science project is not only fun and educational it aids in research on healthy populations or a decline in your area. Happy birding #BirdLifeAustralia #aussiebackyardbirdcount

21.01.2022 This Laughing Kookaburra is taking turns with his mate renovating a termite mound. Those big strong beaks were flicking dirt out everywhere I look forward to monitoring and snapping a pic of some bubs hopefully!

21.01.2022 I wanted to share some pics of this 'Noisy Minor' family who chose to nest in our yard. How beautiful are their eggs! Growing up my Nana called them Mickey Birds - easy to know why... it would have to relate to the old saying 'to take the mickey out of someone' and she swore they saved her many times when the old red belly black snake came out from under the house they would make a fuss, this is what these cheeky buggars do. Also known as 'Happy Families'. Have you heard any other names they are known by? Cheers - Kim

20.01.2022 Areas across the Sunshine Coast were hit by some ferocious storm cells on Halloween and the clean up has been tirelessly tackled ever since. Dangerous power lines down mixed in with huge trees and branches is a good reminder to not let kids wander around after a storm. Our crew has been busy clearing tracks across our beautiful bushland reserves and ensuring they are safe this week. Very sad to see some huge and very old trees did not survive this one. A big thank you to Ergon Energy Eumundi Rural Fire Brigade and the awesome work of I would say every tree care services company across the Sunny Coast

20.01.2022 A beautiful display of flowers at Cooroibah Environmental Reserve yesterday morning, capturing this Grevillea leiophylla in the morning dew. This area is one of the parts of the reserve affected by the bush fires late last year and we are now beginning to see the heathland recovery.

20.01.2022 Beautiful Mount Ninderry Environmental Reserve on the Sunshine Coast was a spectacular site on Friday. This site keeps the crew hard at work with 198ha and a huge variety of invasive weed species to manage. With a great array of wildlife species present including Koalas this is a special site for our team.

20.01.2022 We recently worked on a lovely Voluntary Conservation Act (VCA) property on Friday at Black Mountain. Wildlife was abundant on the day with butterfiles everywhere while we worked on revegetating the property and weed removal.

19.01.2022 This little hollow is used all year round and is shared between the lorikeets and the squirrel gliders on our property. This beautiful big old Eucalyptus propinqua is covered in scratches and is one of our favourite trees on our property....( We have a few favourites!) Seeing wildlife in natural hollows as well as our supplied nest boxes is always such a thrill

19.01.2022 Beautiful Doonan is in the Noosa hinterland and has some very special hidden gems. Working along the sound of waterfalls and running creeks is a great working day. These are some picks from across a couple of our reserves. Stay safe everyone

19.01.2022 We feel very blessed to be able to do what we love and what we believe in on an every day basis but even more so to be able to do it right now. 8 homes went up at the most stunning Cooroibah property this week in true Paperbark Woodland with plentiful Syncarpia glomulifera and Eucalyptus racemosa. Wonderful to meet property owners with so much love for their natural surroundings.#nestboxes #bushlandconservation #wildlife #Cooroibah #woodland

18.01.2022 Did you know that the spiky Smilax australis vine is a favourite snack for our beautiful possums? They love the fresh soft pink new shoots of this common bushland vine! Not such a favourite for the arms, faces and legs of bush regeners or bush walkers though and commonly named Barbed Wire Vine. Smilax australis is dioecious and carry male and female flowers on separate plants and is currently flowering here at the moment. It is the host plant for the Fiery Jewel Butterfly an important habitat and food source for birds and wildlife and a good reminder we need to keep our pollinators healthy to keep our flowering natives fruiting photo credit: Ben McDonald BCM

17.01.2022 Undertaking a collaborative effort with QPWS today in Noosa National Park - Noosa Heads, targeting Bitou bush. It certainly was great day working through this beautiful part of the world. Strategic management of this highly invasive coastal weed is essential.

17.01.2022 Today is World Bee Day! A day to take a moment to celebrate the beauty, importance and hopefully ignite further the need to help protect and nurture our bee's around the world. Here in Australia it's a great time to plant a native Australian flowering shrub in your garden this weekend! Bee's are important pollinators and vital to our bushlands and wonderful to have around your gardens. Nearly all of Australias 1,500 or more native bee species are solitary. Solitary b...ees do not have queens, workers and drones. Instead, for most species just one female bee will mate and will build an individual nest for her eggs in a small hollow. Blue banded bees, leaf-cutter bees and teddy bear bees are examples of solitary bees and do not store any honey in their tiny nests. Bushland Conservation Management offer bee/insect hotels, filled with Eucalyptus sticks- each hand drilled, and when available bamboo hollows and clay also. The bees will fill any gaps to suit their needs with resin. Keep your box at a minimum of 1m off the ground to avoid ants and best placed in a dry spot near flowering native plants and the veggie garden. It's a great project to work on the with the kids one weekend by filling larger bamboo or some old storm water pipe with smaller bamboo and hanging in the garden. Email Kim at [email protected] to place an order- our bee boxes start at $160 and make a very special gift for the garden lover. See more

16.01.2022 Yesterday was a very exciting day for the Noosa Glossy Black Cockatoos and for us too! We watched two of our habitat boxes being installed for these threatened Cockatoos by the awesome and professional crew at Tree Solutions Australia P/L who also donated some of their time for the install! We look forward to the monitoring of these designs. One is a classic lidded version with a natural hollow front entrance which was constructed by us through bush fire donations to Wildcare Australia Inc. and the other is an open lid design donated by us here at Bushland Conservation Management. We have just loved being a part of such a community collaboration between the community who so generously donated for the construction of these boxes,#Wildcare Australia, #TreeSolutionsAustralia, #NoosaCouncil and ourselves. #glossyblackcockatoo #nestboxes

16.01.2022 We believe this to be a Red Swampdragon (Agrionoptera insignis allogenes) thank you to the Amateur Entomology Australia page for helping us with identification! It is nice to be able to take a moment in our day to stop and appreciate the beauty all around us. #bushregeneration #naturelovers #dragonfly #Redswampdragon

16.01.2022 Japanese Sunflower *Tithonia diversifolia is currently in flower around the Sunshine Coast a native to Central America and Mexico. This hardy invasive species colonizes quickly forming thickets and has become a serious environmental weed in Qld and Northern NSW. It is well known on the Blackall Range heading up to Mapleton here on the Sunshine Coast. It's fibrous root system makes manual removal hard work. These pics are from one of our contracted work sites outside of Eumundi recently.

15.01.2022 Which do you prefer natural or painted?Would you prefer a choice? Normally we paint the boxes for longevity but find a lot of customers liking the natural look. We give them two coats of clear to seal the marine ply. In a garden setting the natural is lovely. send us a message if you would like to make an order or have any questions prices listed under nest boxes on our website. www.bushlandconservation.com.au

14.01.2022 Another fantastic year at the Great Sandy National Park - Cooloola section strategically targeting Bitou bush Chrysanthemoides monilifera. This year we managed to find 30 plants across Rainbow Beach and Teewah Beach; traversing close to 50km, most of which is not flat! :). Due to COVID-19 the National Park highlighted even more than usual how much natural beauty this area contains, and we couldn't help feel it was healing with so little vehicle and human impact.

13.01.2022 One of our contracted sites Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve on the Sunshine Coast is ready for some more loving this National Tree Day. Our crew are busy preparing the 2000 holes !! for the awesome volunteers who have booked in to attend this Sunday and Monday An ex cattle grazing property it is truly exciting to watch and be a part of this property transformation. This picture by one of our field crew @BenMcdonald is of a previous National Tree Day planting on this site of a Hovea acutifolia absolutely doing its thing!! In your own garden try teaming some Hovea next to Pultanea villosa for a dramatic purple and orange native flowering winter garden party and the bees will love it #NationalTreeDay2020 #SunshineCoastCouncil #DoonanCreekEnvironmentalReserve #bushregeneration #revegetation

12.01.2022 We have 8 Young birders' birding booklets from BirdLife Australia to give away. One per family. 11.01.2022 How has your frog finding February been going? Our little family headed out last night for some 'Frogging' adventures along our creek and also the dam. The loud 'W'ark' of The Great Barred Frog was an exciting find as we often hear them but have had trouble finding them before! A great night out enjoying the weather in our gum boots. We'd love to see your frogging pics in the comments below and add location too #GreatBarredFrog #EasternSedgeFrog #GreenTreeFrog #RocketFrog #frogging #SunshineCoast

11.01.2022 An information session for the Burgess Creek regeneration project will be held later this month. Details below, we'd love to see you & your neighbours there. WHEN ~ SAT 22 FEB @ 0900 WHERE ~ Burgess Creek Footbridge.

10.01.2022 The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is unique to other Cockatoos as it adds extra protein into their diet by targeting borer grubs in the trees. The male of this species has a pink ring around his eye which you can easily see in the pic of him on the smaller branch. How strong are the jaws on these birds check out that stripping!

10.01.2022 Small-leaved privet - Ligustrum sinense is currently in full flower at the the moment, allowing easier identification for removal of this weed species. The main distinguishing features are opposite leaves in varying sizes of 2-7cm. The stem is a lighter colour with lenticels (small bumps - porous tissue) along the length of the plant. There is a mass of fragrant white flowers. The Small-leaved privet forms a dense mono-culture, commonly adjacent to creek/river edges.

08.01.2022 Its that time of year we get to enjoy the Tongue Orchid Dockrillia linguiformis putting on a show at our front gate. Both host trees here are the rough bark Lophostemon confertus for the epiphyte to cling to. They are a hardy little orchid and also grow lithophtically on rocks #tongueorchid #dockrillia

08.01.2022 Bushland Conservation Management in collaboration with the RSPCA Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre are thrilled to be a part of the desired outcome of orphaned and injured and rehabilitated wildlife. The hard work and dedication of RSPCA Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre from the day of rescue from community members and dedicated wildlife rescuers then into the good care of Eumundi Wildlife Centre, to the end result of release!! Our role of nest box and drey installations in conjunction with soft releases in bushland sites is the desired outcome and so happy we can collaborate on these projects. This little ringtail was quite feisty in care according to the head nurse which means she will do very well in the wild

07.01.2022 It is always a 'buzz' to come accross any of the native solitary bees. The Blue Banded Bee female builds her nest in hollows in cracks and crevices near to the ground in and around bricks or rocks or soft dirt. This one was busy in this spot for a couple of hours in Noosa recently . A great little article by Land for Wildlife can be read here https://www.lfwseq.org.au/blue-banded-bee/ and more great information on www.aussiebee.com.au

07.01.2022 We are very lucky to have populations of the rare and threatened Glossy Black Cockatoo species Calyptoryhnchus lathami lathami here in South East Qld with significant numbers in the Noosa region. This week we were very happy to see and assist another one of our 'Cocky-Hollow' GBC nesting boxes be installed!

07.01.2022 We are seeing lots of Spring activity out on the reserves and lovely to find a Rufous fantail nesting. All bush regenerators will know the Rufous fantails but likely know the similar Grey fantail even better. Both with their cheeky displays often follow us on our weeding journey through out the day.The Bushland Conservation Management team always opt for minimal disturbance and perform spot checks for nests and wildlife in invasive grass, shrubs and tree's before removal. We also hold staff training on wildlife habitat identification each year. Photo credit - Thanks to Ben McDonald

06.01.2022 Thanks to one of our crew Lachlan McDonald for catching this great little video of a Striated Pardelote building its nest at one of the coastal sites. Striated Pardelote's are the little 'chip chip' birds that you hear regularly. Both parents help build and incubate the nest and feed the young These guys were seen taking back little twigs all day. We have the Striated Pardelote sub species melanocephalus along most of the QLD east coast. Pardelote's usually nest in tree hollows, soil mounds and embankments like their cousin the Spotted Pardelote. It is from personal observation that they will choose a tree hollow or nesting box when available still low to ground, possibly these offer a feeling of safety over the ground tunnels.

05.01.2022 This was taken recently while targeting Bitou bush by one of our senior bush regenerators Lachlan McDonald. The sandy black dust is being disturbed after it has blown up off the cliffs at Rainbow Beach and settles on the scrub... and then onto the backs of hard working crew members

05.01.2022 One of eight habitat boxes that we put up recently in Buderim. So happy to be getting more of these little homes out there for our local wildlife. Natural tree hollows can take 100 to 200 years to form! Land clearing rates see wildlife readily taking up these supplied boxes.

04.01.2022 Our yearly wildlife rescue training workshop is being delivered in a beautiful location. It's important our team are confident and updated yearly in wildlife rescue techniques and the rescue baskets and equipment are always clean, tidy and ready for action Kim has been a registered wildlife carer and rescuer with Wildcare Australia Wildcare Australia Inc. since 2005 and is happy to share her experience and knowledge gained from the excellent and professional workshops delivered by Wildcare Australia and also from her experience over the years in the field. If you would like to become a licensed wildlife rescuer/ or carer, take the phone calls or like to help with wildlife transport you can join a local group for training and support. #wildcareaustralia #wildliferescueworkshop #bushlandconservationmanagement #wildlifecarer

04.01.2022 The Birdlife Photography Award for all the birders out there

04.01.2022 Bush Regeneration or assisted natural regeneration is a minimal disturbance technique used when resilience in the bushland already exists by removal of invasive species. This methodology then allows natural recruitment from the native seed bank in the soil to emerge assisting in restoration of the natural balance in the ecosystem Hand weeding around native plants and working from the good bush out are a couple of key elements in helping restoration of natural environments. #bushregeneration #whatisbushregeneration #weedremoval

04.01.2022 If you feel you would like to support Glossy Black Cockatoo conservation please pop over to like and support this page for this essential project here on the Sunshine Coast. 03.01.2022 For other small business owners I highly recommend CCIQ's free webinar on the stimulus packages for business. $3 Billion business support. It goes for an hour but is very informative. The minister of Employment and Small Business discusses everything from power bill rebates to Interest free loans. https://www.facebook.com/events/191789748785343/ There is a small business hotline from Business Qld 1300654687 and the Business Queensland website is posting a portal for applicati...ons for payroll tax refunds in the next couple of days. https://www.business.qld.gov.au/ If we can all continue to do our very best by each other by social distancing and intense hygiene protocols and keep buying from our community businesses anyway we can. Small and medium businesses will be a large part in the rebuilding of our economy. #cciq #smallbusiness #businessqld

02.01.2022 Hopefully these small victories see some big results in helping our Glossy Black Cockatoos

01.01.2022 This is the beautiful landscape of Lake Boomanjin - K`gari. A special place to unwind after targeting Bitou bush through thick coastal scrub on a recent contract. #Kgari #FraserIsland #LakeBoomanjin ~ Photo credit Joel Morris
