25.01.2022 URGENT In a sudden and bizarre twist late this Friday afternoon the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) announced they are going to sho...ot corellas this weekend at the Kilmore Golf Club (KGC) for an experiment so they can ascertain what non lethal methods of management they may need to apply in the future. Due to overwhelming public outrage the Kilmore Golf Course stated last week they will now look to pursue non lethal methods to manage corellas on their course and DELWP under pressure too have stated they have made the KGC permit inactive. This is because of you all and your many emails, letters and phone calls, so thank you all so much for all your efforts, however its not over yet. Now the government is killing corellas at the Kilmore Golf Club for an experiment to try and work out how not to kill them in the future. This may relate to another golf course that found the soil under the greens contained larvae and grubs that the corellas were attracted to and ate and in that case they poisoned the grubs and consequently solved their corella problems (however poisoning greens seems elaborate and unnecessary as well). So if this was known and done in the past, why dont they just examine the Kilmore greens and do soil samples to see if it contains the same larvae and grubs as was under the other golf course greens that the corellas were attracted to? There is no need to kill corellas to find this out. And what if the corellas they shoot havent eaten any larvae or grubs but other corellas may have? Its hardly a conclusive or very scientific experiment. So please, if you have some time this weekend come to the Kilmore Golf Course, any time between DAWN till DUSK and help scare the corellas away so the department DELWP cant shoot them. They will most likely let the corellas onto the greens to forage and eat for a while and just when they have finished their dinner, 2 of them will be shot. Some might say its only 2 birds, but this should not be happening and DELWP needs to be held accountable for such stupid and inane experiments. And if this is an experiment it surely would have to go through an animal ethics committee like other wildlife experiments. There is also a huge public safety issue here with the adjoining reserve and the government discharging a firearm over the weekend when people are out and about enjoying their weekend. HOW ELSE YOU CAN HELP Please also call and or email the minister Environment minister Lily DAmbrosio at [email protected] (03) 9637 9504 ...and leave your comments to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning DELWP on their feedback form. http://www2.delwp.vic.gov.au/our-department/contact-us And ask them what this will actually achieve and that to kill wildlife to work out what non lethal methods or devices to use is completely contradictory. Tell them this move appears completely unnecessary, as while this barbaric and brutal scientific research experiment is being conducted the Woriggee Golf Links NSW uses the Eagle Eye device with fantatsic results. We know of I5 other golf clubs who use non lethal equipment including Yarrawonga GC which is a 46 hole course. They used the Eagle Kite (under $500) in conjunction with the Laser lights and have done for some time without the need to kill corellas to achieve a non lethal outcome. Ask them why they need to spend tax payers money to kill birds to work out how not to kill them for management. Ask them how the public can be confident that the department will not make the golf clubs permit active again at any time. For the corellas PLEASE SHARE THIS Many thanks FURTHER INFO PLEASE CALL 0409 415 637

22.01.2022 Hi bird lovers everywhere. We were lucky to have 2 Speckled Warblers in the park over the past weekend. On Tuesday we went out to try to see them again and saw two Scarlet Honeyeaters on the hill (where the old foundations are). They were enjoying the abundance of Sugar Gum blossom. If you went out there, you might see them too.

16.01.2022 Seymour Bushland Park was created through the vision and effective activism of Colin Blackwood Officer, OAM- lover of bush birds, and Nature. Our dear friend CBO left a permanent legacy of land saved for Nature and minds wakened to the need to work to preserve and enhance what we have. He will be sadly missed. Service for Colin will be at the Anglican Church at 2.00PM on Monday 8th January. Please let anyone know who knew Colin in his many roles over the years in our community.

05.01.2022 On Thursday we held a workshop in the park on ways to improve the land. Regeneration began almost immediately 35 years ago but we have arrived at a stage of dense saplings with scant ground cover. The water just runs off. Ways to improve the land were discussed and the committee seems in favour of judicious thinning and planting of grasses and ground flora. Which would act as a sponge to soak up the water, Just imagine this was applied on a catchment wide basis across Whiteheads Creek.
04.01.2022 We are having our AGM on Thursday 9th November at 7.30PM. If you are interested in parks, birds, wildlife, and a walk in the bush, you might like to get more involved by joining our small but faithful committee. New ideas and enthusiasm would be great. Reply here if you would like to learn more.
02.01.2022 That's interesting
