12.01.2022 Pararistolochia praevenosa is a near threatened vine and host to Ornithoptera richmondia, one of Australia's largest butterflies. The larve of this butterfly uses the leaves as a food source. The closely related Aristolochia elegans (Dutchman's pipe) is an invasive weed that is poisonous to the larve.
10.01.2022 Vulnerable species Bosistoa transversa in flower I spotted in Tallebudgera Valley.
09.01.2022 Stumbled across this marvel of nature today in Currumbin Valley. This is Euphomatia bennettii or Small bolwarra. Usually just single stemmed and usually around 50cm high. The small shrub only flowers for one day of the year and must be quickly pollinated by a small weevil if it is to set seed.
07.01.2022 Cupaniopsis newmanii (near threatened)
07.01.2022 Spotted this Elattostachys nervosa (also known as Green Tamarind or beetroot for its deep red new growth) fruiting abundantly in Numinbah Valley today. The fruit/seeds rarely seen.
05.01.2022 I very rarely post before and afters. They really do not sell the significance of the work. Regeneration/restorstion is, what a lot of people don't understand, a very, very long process. There is no quick fix. It takes years and years of follow up work to stabilize an ecosystem that has been disturbed or degraded. However modern society loves to see before and afters I guess mainly because it is within our nature, or at least the nature of modern man to be able to visualize and "report" on progress. It seems of this day and age to be even more prevalent, a bi-product of today's modern immediate access to information generation/society. These are two shots from a site near Canungra QLD. The two shots are probably about 1year apart, the project,of course, still in progress.
05.01.2022 Behold the mighty floral emblem (Telopea speciosissima) of the greatest state, territory or provenance on the planet NSW.
05.01.2022 Member of the Proteaceae family and closely related to the macadamia nut the Triunia youngiana seeds within these fruits are highly poisonous if injested.
03.01.2022 Lepidozamia peroffskyana.
02.01.2022 Clematis glycinoides (Headache vine) crush the leaves and inhale to cure headache.
