25.01.2022 I often ask myself what is my purpose and how can I serve and make the world a better place. And the universe responds and tells me to keep going bush and telling stories with my mob...so that’s what Im doing. Have a happy holiday with yourself and if you’re lucky with your loved ones and see you for more #campingoncountry in the new year. Ernie #ourhealthourway #menshealth

23.01.2022 Cairns men get along!

22.01.2022 It’s no surprise to us that #campingoncountry and practicing our culture and yarning together as men is healing. There’s so many elements such as fire, sun, water, bushtucker, on-country health checks, yarning circles, making artifacts and taking long walks and discovering caves with paintings not seen for many, many years with grinding stones and flints left by the old people on the soft floor of the cave testify to another time our old people lived in perfect harmony with c...ountry. Feeling and seeing this direct connection to the old people heals us. ‘We are here we are visiting you’ the local men say in language to the old people...we say this to you too and everyone around the world. We are still singing our songs. We have our skin we have our totems and we have Dreaming. We have each other. There is nothing else that compares in regards to healing and improving our health as Aboriginal men. When we’re on country we heal! We got this! Our health our way. We have to close the gap on our own health our way. Oondamaroo (Ernie) Picture is of brother Abraham - Songman and one of the Joongai for our men’s health and culture camp near Bulman this week. Find out more at campingoncountry.com.au thanks to brothers Alfred, Abraham, Lyndon, Aidan, Guy, boss Dudley, Spencer, Dave and all the men who attended and special thanks to @mimalland @kenwyattmp @greghuntmp

17.01.2022 Vale Jakamarra Nelson Members and staff of the Northern Land Council mourn the passing of Jakamarra Nelson a very dear friend to us all. We share our deep sense... of loss with our colleagues at the Central land Council, where Jakamarra Nelson served as an Executive member and long-term delegate for many years. We can only agree with the words of the CEO of the Central Land Council, Joe Martin-Jard who described Jakamarra as a land rights champion who commanded enormous respect wherever he travelled and a true gentleman who could work across the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal worlds with ease. NLC Chairman Samuel Bush-Blanasi knew Jakamarra for many years and remembers him as a fierce advocate for the rights of Aboriginal people, particularly people living on homelands. Jakamarra Nelson was a wise and strong man that I looked up to for many years. He was a true Warlpiri man, a senior lawman and I was lucky to work alongside him for many years through our Land Councils but also through the Aboriginal Benefits Account. Jakamarra Nelson could be deadly serious one minute and have us rolling about in stitches with his wicked humour the next. He was a great man and we are all sorry for his loss. Members and staff of the Northern Land Council send our sincere condolences to his family and countrymen and women at Yuendumu and right across central Australia. Central Land Council

08.01.2022 Some of the mareeba men with freshly made spears and didgeridoo and boomerang. Our yarns around the fire are so important they bring out all the pain and hurt so we can heal and move towards our true self. Our trauma is real but so is our recovery. When we spend time on Country as men practicing our culture and sharing from the heart we grow and heal. Aboriginal men’s health is in our hands! We have the solutions we have the strength and dignity from our old people. #campingoncountry #ourhealthourway @naccho_aus @kenwyattmp @greghuntmp thanks to Department of Health for investing in our approach our way blackfella way! Ernie
