25.01.2022 Ah yes, your reminder to slow down this weekend. We place too much importance on busyness and not enough on staying put and down time.
24.01.2022 A world first for NSW with a virtual reality blood testing pilot, developed by TAFE NSW with NSW Health Pathology, CognitiveVR and diagnostic solutions company Werfen. Amazing! Where will we be in another 10 years?
22.01.2022 "Gone are the days of the white Anglo-Saxon stereotypical firefighter the big burly tradie who comes and does the job we need to mirror these communities we serve. So we need more female firefighters, we need more people from First Nations and Indigenous backgrounds." There are now programs aimed at 16 to 19-year-old girls, introducing them to emergency services - wonderful to hear!
22.01.2022 "An imbalance between labour demand and labour supply leading to young people facing greater competition as job seekers while older workers benefit from the advantage of incumbency is consistent with the divergence in wage rate growth. The evidence in support of this is convincing."
21.01.2022 This is a difficult distinction for young people to make. Their future seems far away and the people giving the advice seem so old and their advice irrelevant. Young people are often under the impression that things can wait and that they are bullet proof. We really need to instil in them a sense of responsibility for their actions and the fact that some actions now can have long term consequences - both positive and negative.
21.01.2022 Congratulations to the class of 2020 and best wishes as you start your HSC exams. You have demonstrated great resilience which has inspired all of us!
21.01.2022 Making a Difference... That's exactly what we do!! #linkstolearning teach.NSW #YoungPeopleFirst https://youtu.be/C7ESq8Vupao
21.01.2022 Tomorrow marks the beginning of World Mental Health Week. Nothing is more important than health and mental health is as important as physical health. There are plenty of resources and help available these days. For example, Lifeline have a new text support service as well as their regular suite of services. You can also find great self-help tools over at headspace. Above all reach out to colleagues and friends and ask if they are okay.
21.01.2022 Wise words and something we try to teach our students, in fact we teach them that failing is part of success.
21.01.2022 How beautiful is this? It takes one teacher, one report card, one moment to be seen, acknowledged, understood and loved because of who you are. Is this what teaching really means? We think so!
21.01.2022 We have changed the date of our Northern Beaches Careers Expo. Our new date is Thursday 12th November and the expo will go virtual in line with government guidelines. We will have more information for you soon. Apologies for the change and we hope that you can all still make it.
21.01.2022 Well the month of September is over so we are in official countdown to our Careers Expo - have you registered yet?
20.01.2022 The National Careers Institute has a new podcast channel offering insight into what is possible with a #vocationaleducation and training qualification. Podcasts are a great way to learn about an industry whilst still doing your daily routine...also great for parents to help young people discover what is out there.
20.01.2022 There are free courses everywhere in all sorts of different topics - why not try some, coursera is good but a simple google with yield a lot more.
20.01.2022 For HSC Students and Parents - theres a great webinar thanks to the P&C Federation. Let's talk about the HSC, hosted by CEO of NESA, Paul Martin. https://www.pandc.org.au/pc-federation-webinar-registration/... Please register even if you can't attend as they will then email you the link to the recording.
20.01.2022 What is it that we do? We help those students who are not doing so well in school, we work with them and help them to identify and develop strengths that will give them confidence. We all deserve education and training.
19.01.2022 Kick off Tenzin Tournament!!
19.01.2022 Would this be one for your teen? Making tonnes of toothpaste in a giant tank or 5 tonnes of handwash? What is it like to be a Chemical Compounder - here is a day in the life of one.
19.01.2022 Good on him for standing up for what is right in campaigning for free school meals for school children experiencing disadvantage. Where Marcus Rashford is now, is a far cry from where he was as a child so has first hand experience of going without as a child: "As a family, we relied on breakfast clubs, free school meals and the kind actions of neighbours and coaches."

18.01.2022 So, so true! Our students loved the First Aid skills program we ran recently, learning by doing is very effective.
17.01.2022 It takes courage to fail but it takes failure to succeed.
17.01.2022 It’s fair to say teenagers who receive and give love through physical touch and face-to-face interaction are going to be feeling the impact of current world events in their own way and they may need additional support to fill the emotional gaps and better understand their own struggle. How can we as parents and teachers help them?
16.01.2022 Written by a Year 12 student: "We, as the class of 2020 have already made history! We are history MAKERES, we are game CHANGERS and PIONEERS, GOODNESS we went though our last year of schooling, now GRADUATING in the midst of a world wide pandemic!"
16.01.2022 Write this on a sticky note and put it beside your bed or your child's desk and tell them to look at it whenever they feel like you can't achieve something.
16.01.2022 Very clever tool! What works for one student, doesn't work for the next but this is a good place to start. Parents, do you know how to help your teens to study? Do you talk about school work together? Keep an eye on sleep and any changes to behaviour.
16.01.2022 A new report by UNESCO-UNEVOC: "Boosting gender equality in science and technology" discusses the fact that girls and women tend to be under-represented in the fields that require science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills and knowledge, key issues and challenges for TVET programs and Careers.
16.01.2022 What a great example this is, we couldn't invent a better role model. Peter's job title is: User Experience (UX) Design Lead. He works in Google’s Chrome Operating System (Chrome OS) team in Sydney. Peter started his career pathway with a 3 year gap following school and then a Diploma of Web Design, TAFE NSW. I’m a huge advocate for the TAFE system, providing thousands of students alternative pathways into the careers they love, he says.
13.01.2022 Amazing opportunity to brush up skills. Summer Skills is a fee free* short course program designed specifically for school leavers to support skill development over the summer months. Whether they plan to attend university, TAFE NSW, have a gap year or are still deciding what to do, there is a course providing the skills for a brighter future.
13.01.2022 Rejection - this is a subject really worth exploring for young people. If you consider how adults feel experiencing rejection it can hit pretty hard. It hits young people in their developing phase a lot harder still. Rejection is very normal though and part of life. If we understand it we can rationalise and control how we react to it. Of course we need to teach young people resilience, promoting self-esteem and confidence. This is a part of what we do here at BEN. Our progra...ms ignite something in young people so that they realise they are good at something, they ad value. We also help young people who want to get ready for job applications, practicing the process with them and exploring why they may or may not be suitable for a role. We have some wonderful partnerships with mentors and businesses who take young people on for work placement and this is what young people need as part of the puzzle for job (and life) readiness. 11.01.2022 Today is World Teacher day, a good reason to shout out to all the amazing teachers out there igniting passion for learning in students.
10.01.2022 Our Careers Expo is still available for downloads and videos! Register to access for free on nbce.vFairs.com!! blob:https://digital-print-edition.austcommunitymedia.com.au/ca7
09.01.2022 It is no secret that the world is changing rapidly and therefore jobs and whole industries are too. Whilst young people really only need to worry about getting an education first and foremost and then the 1st job. It is important to look at the bigger picture down the line. Young people (and adults) need to be flexible, focusing on skills that they can easily transfer from one role to another as things change. What about these 10 jobs?
08.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who made our VIRTUAL Career Expo a wonderful success yesterday!

08.01.2022 A social enterprise is usually a business whose primary objective is to achieve social impact rather than generating profit for owners and shareholders. The profits are redirected back into the community for social good. This study completed over 3 years in NSW and Victoria found that "effective social enterprises were found to increase technical and life skills of young people, improve their sense of agency and self-worth, improve their mental health and well-being, and positively influence healthier behaviours such as healthy eating, and reduced smoking and drug use." Regardless of the effectiveness, the model is not being utilised in the employment services system. That's a great shame but perhaps following the publication of this report things might change.
07.01.2022 CAL is our building resilience program, it is one of our most successful not least because the students enjoy the therapy of it but because it also reaches more young people in a shorter amount of time than a lot of other programs. We can bring CAL to your school. Normally the course runs for 10 weeks, there is the option of a shorter 4 week course, however, with COVID-19 we constantly adapt to the rules. Accreditation of the program is by @Wagsthedog.
07.01.2022 Michelle Obama is a lawyer, writer and the wife of former U.S. President Barack Obama AND a thoroughly decent, humble human being who inspires others. Students need opportunities to overcome barriers to education and employment and importantly, mentors and people who believe in them - at least one irrationally committed adult in their life.
06.01.2022 Hassan - another long time supporting host employer of our Work Placement program!
06.01.2022 "A report 'Looking to the Future' states ""Senior secondary graduates will need a broader and different mix of skills compared to previous generations, including stronger problem solving, communication and digital skills, as well as critical and creative thinking. They will also need the skills to navigate an increasingly complex range of options and pathways into further education and training."" We agree entirely and are working with our young people skilling them up in many ways."

04.01.2022 Financial education is a must, we love what this Money Saving Expert has to say in this article: "The key is a safe environment limits on the available amounts to spend, the size of individual purchases and the spend within given time frames, Society is moving away from cash and so like all change we just need to educate and set limits.

03.01.2022 We are all different therefore of course we must all have different strengths, weaknesses, interests, learning styles, brain wiring etc. The key is to listen to kids and take all of this onboard when we are struggling to 'get through to them'. We have many programs that we can deliver in school or onsite that helps young people who are struggling to engage at school
03.01.2022 Skillsroad is a great place for exploring skills, strengths and interests. There are 500+ occupations in VET and infinite opportunities to develop skills. There are so many pathways, we help students to explore these pathways. We work with students to help them re-engage with education and learning, finding what they are good at and providing opportunities to learn whilst doing.
02.01.2022 The NSW Department of Education has developed a new Student Behaviour Strategy to lift educational outcomes through early intervention and targeted support. They are offering the opportunity for parents and carers to have their say. Take a look at the strategy and if you would like to provide feedback head over to the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/D3TPXNL
