22.01.2022 Eddy Chibu, Business for Developments Country Manager in Kenya, recently came across Melton Leadership perspective on the Say-Do-Gap theory, which evaluates the gap between what you SAY to your group of stakeholders and what you DO. The greater that gap, the less the trust, the less the trust, the longer it takes to achieve anything. This resonated strongly with his own work in Kenya, where the greater the Say-Do-Gap, the harder it is to gain the trust of the farmers we work with, and the longer it takes for them to adapt better agronomic practices we are advocating to achieve higher yields. Find out how Eddy reduced this gap and built trust with farmers by farming cotton and maize this year. https://buff.ly/2Yu6iNl

21.01.2022 This year Business for Development trialed #BTCotton at 24 sites for the #Kwale #Agribusiness Program. The results have been outstanding. 15.01.2022 The terrible fires in Australia has ignited the #ClimateChange debate. #Agriculture is 1 of the highest emitting sectors at 26.8% of total GHG. Reducing this will require change how we farm, what we eat, & how we manage our forest and natural carbon sinks. https://buff.ly/37HXWnG

14.01.2022 We love a bit of Cause Related Marketing - Each bar of chocolate has a digital token. Customers can use the token online to either donate money, or use it to get a discount on their next purchase. Each token is worth the equivalent of a 1/4 of a tree; so, 4 chocolate bars buys one tree for the farmers to plant, preventing deforestation and increasing the earning potential of the cocoa farmers. Just a great excuse to buy chocolate!

14.01.2022 We knew there was a reason we do such great projects in coffee and chocolate

01.01.2022 There is a tug of war between sustainable environment and sustainable livelihoods. It is unlikely to achieve environmental outcomes, especially in countries where there is extreme poverty, without economic outcomes for those causing the environmental issue. All environmental programs from reducing use of pesticides to decreasing a herders flock of animals so it doesnt degrade the soil need to ensure that if they reduce the capacity of that person to earn an income, then they need to provide an alternative means for them to earn a living.
