Kim’s lush succulents have provided the ideal nesting place for ‘mother duck’ who obviously ducked in to BTC grounds recently after cleverly working out the BTCentre gate code! She must have decided Kim’s lush plantings were colourful ... enough to stay as the resulting five eggs (we think) in her well hidden nest should result in a sudden increased club membership for the upcoming new season. Whilst this is a quacking good BTC story, please take care over the next few weeks as her anticipated brood start to strut their stuff around the clubhouse & courts before moving on to more watery surrounds. 09.01.2022 BTC's B/DMail article this week - Thanks Geoff Busselton Tennis Centre, home of the Busselton Tennis Club turns one this week with the past twelve months showing a steady increase in membership interest. At the 2020/21 season opener played Saturday 7 November, fifty one prospective juniors applied for ten free memberships raffled by club Platinum sponsor Busselton Toyota in an encouraging young members initiative driven by BTC sponsor coordinator Taryn Sullivan and Busselto...n Toyota’s Simon Fairbrother. Also reflecting BTC’s progressive tennis base is 86 yo club stalwart and life member Geoff Pearce. This quiet achiever has proven to be an essential working cog over the past forty four years and a key driver in the success of the club moving forward to meet the future needs of the SW regional community tennis. It can be said without doubt that no one is as committed as Geoff to live, breathe and play Busselton tennis as proudly as he and such is reflected by his personalised ‘Tennis’ vehicle number plate. Over this time including 42 years as a committee member, Geoff has proven to be an extremely generous giver, volunteering to be the ‘go to man’ for all club maintenance and court preparation work prior to the present green keeper Chris Ashton being appointed. In 2015 Tennis West officially recognised his valuable contributions by awarded him their prestigious ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’. Along with other RSA qualified personnel, Geoff has always made ‘court 28’ (the club bar) and in the previous clubhouse ‘Geoff’s Bar’ the centre of social camaraderie, regularly chipping in at his expense free chips, pork crackle, party pies and various donated prizes to make the popular weekly ‘Men’s Scroungers’ tennis that little bit special. His free range chickens have supplied countless dozens of eggs at Geoff’s own down, down prices specifically for club fund raising purposes, along with reliable personal pre-prepped juicy lemons and lime squash refreshments at many annual BTC Junior Open competitions. He has even been caught with his own hawk-eye sculking around many a regional and city auction site to successfully hunt down a bargain or three for BTC. Geoff quietly remains the man behind the ever-popular automatic ball machine. He donated the very clever device that dispenses and retrieves with precision a bucket load of tennis balls for training purposes. It can also be hired by members when booking a court online. Wow! What a man. BTC would be absolutely lost without this particular gentleman and ace volunteer. Geoff Pearce, thank you. You certainly are a living legend!
