25.01.2022 Okay Potters, while we cannot be certain exactly when our Club will re-open its doors, we do know it will happen! In the meantime, here is a wonderful project, suggested by our very own June Price for all Members to work on. CELEBRATION BEADS - Celebrating Ceramics, Creativity & Community... As a Member, we invite you to create one, two or several beads that can be used alone or collectively with other Member beads, for display in whatever way you desire, perhaps in a basket, to hang vertically or horizontally, or to be skewered to create a colourful totem pole! Decoration of beads can be as simple or complex as you like and as for the size, we’ll leave that to you too. Be sure to upload photos of the bead(s) you are making and share details on how your surface decoration has been done with other Members. TO GET STARTED we would like someone to suggest a simple way for Members to make a basic bead out of clay? History of Beads: Did you know beads are believed to be one of the earliest forms of trade between humans and that ‘bead trading’ was one of the reasons humans developed language? While beads have been used and traded for most our history (the oldest beads found date back 72,000 years at Blombos Cave) they have long been used for symbolic and spiritual purposes. Think religion (Rosary beads for Roman Catholics, Misbaha for Muslims, Japamala/Buddhist prayer beads/nenju for Hindus, Buddhists, some Sikhs, Confucianism, Taoists, Shinto etc.), and for tension devices, like worry beads. Beads have also been used to commemorate important milestones in tribal rituals and today are widely used in fashion and home décor. The application and use of beads are quite literally endless and which is why we love the idea of our Celebration Beads project!

22.01.2022 Our lovely new beginners must be so excited to see the finished results of their hard work, first was hand-building, then bisque firing, then glazing, and now finally all glaze fired and ready for collection. As always, some gorgeous pieces from our regular members!

21.01.2022 The exquisite work of south-west potter, Rie Yamauchi is on display NOW at Busselton Pottery Club. With a definitive Japanese elegance, Rie's work is unmistakable. Featuring a unique sculptural tribute to those who lost their lives in the 2011 Japanese earthquakes and tsunami, 'HOPE' ~ "I want people to find Home in the little white ship in stormy waves; that was exactly what they needed then." Skilled in all areas of ceramics, Rie is a wheel worker at heart with much of her ...beautiful pottery influenced by Japan's unique dining culture and diverse tableware. It is, however, her unique forms, delicate and meaningful decorations, and equally thoughtful glaze applications, that will capture your heart and imagination. ON DISPLAY NOW - SEPTEMBER 2020 Busselton Pottery Group Gallery Open every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10am to 2pm. Admission is free with a range of local, handmade pottery pieces available for sale (cash only). #australiassouthwest #busselton #busseltonartists #busseltonpottery #handcraftedceramics #potteryaustralia #australianpottery #japaneseceramics #southwestartisans #potteryexhibition #makers

15.01.2022 As potters, we all know those feelings of frustration and disappointment when things don't go right, but perhaps we should be looking at those moments in a different and more inspired light...

14.01.2022 Some inspiration for your bead challenge from the amazing Jena Benson @a_way_with_clay

14.01.2022 Days like this are a reminder that 'many hands make light work' - well, packing kilns may never quite be 'light work', however the load definitely feels lighter with the support of others! Sometimes I am so inspired by those I share this beautiful space (Busselton Pottery Club) with and it feels appropriate to say, "THANK YOU" to every member who contributes to the running of our club, those who so willingly share their knowledge and expertise on pottery techniques, and those who encourage the continued experimentation with both form and glaze application; we really have so many diverse and talented artists in the house(!) - pottery with people like this really is good for the soul!
