24.01.2022 HAZARD WARNING. N/E of the Georgette Street Boat Ramp (Sea Rescue HQ) is a dangerous submerged object. It appears to be a large chunk of timber pylon, perhaps broken off from the jetty during the storm. It appears to be jagged on the bottom and is fixed in position. It does become submerged and cannot be seen on occassion. Marine Rescue Busselton will be attempting to move it this afternoon. If not we will post the coordinates as a safety measure.
23.01.2022 Marine Rescue is a volunteer 1st Responder.
23.01.2022 Earlier in the year Busselton Volunteer Sea Rescue, (as part of DFES rebranding), became known as Marine Rescue Busselton. Following on from the name change our building has been rebranded and fitted with new signage, as per the photos. One of our vessels, Busselton Rescue 1, has also undergone some changes, making her more visible. Different name, different badging, but the same dedicated group of volunteers keeping our bay safe.
22.01.2022 Being a Volunteer Marine Rescue person is not just about being on the water, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. This Sunday (12.07.20) saw a large number of our members give up their morning to spruce up the building. Thanks people, your efforts were greatly appreciated.

21.01.2022 Weather was rubbish, but on Saturday we managed 6 volunteers training on the WAERN radio system at Margaret River during the afternoon, and late afternoon the on call crew ventured out at sunset (dirty weather an all) and came home in the dark by compass only (note the plotter screens covers in place). Well done Team MRB - "Keeping The Bay Safe".
20.01.2022 These photos were taken this morning at the Department’s Marine Education Boatshed located in East Fremantle. Due to surging tides from the weather event experi...enced last night and continuing today, the shed is almost under water. This is a timely reminder to all boaters to consider checking mooring and pen lines to accommodate the storm surge. Marine Boatshed Freo Town of East Fremantle See more

18.01.2022 Vocational Visit to local volunteer marine rescue with the Rotary club of Busselton Geographe Bay. Very interesting and a great group of volunteers doing a very important job.
17.01.2022 This was the scene from the cabin of the patrol vessel PV Lesueur last week (Monday 24 August), when Police officers from Leeman and Jurien Bay supported our co...mpliance officers to seize a vessel, plus fishing gear and an esky. Earlier, around Midday, the aluminium offshore cruiser was about 40 kilometres off the coast, when our officers inspected the boat and found 20 demersal finfish aboard. They directed the boat’s sole occupant, a man from Perth’s southern suburbs, to return to Leeman jetty where he had launched the cruiser that morning. The mixed species bag limit for demersal finfish in the West Coast Bioregion is two per fisher per day. Investigations are continuing, with a view to launching a prosecution for a number of alleged fishing offences. In the meantime, our compliance officers have seized the man’s 7.5 metre vessel, pending legal action related to the large number of demersals, including dhufish, baldchin groper and pink snapper, that were also seized from the cruiser. In Western Australia we’re into the second half of a 20-year recovery plan to help keep our State’s highly-valued demersal species sustainable. We have a range of management measures, including bag and possession limits and seasonal closures, to support the recovery. The majority of fishers are doing the right thing and our compliance officers are also playing their part to ensure there are fish for the future.

13.01.2022 Calling all beach combers. We need your help. On your marine adventures have you come across any of our data recording VR2 receivers as seen in these photos? Th...ese data recorders help us to track the movements of sharks tagged as part of the scientific non-lethal SMART drumline trial. In the Capes region off Gracetown there is an extensive network of data-recording VR2 receivers secured to the sea bed. This includes the locations of Three Bears, Windmills, Injidup, Yallingup and Prevelly. Occasionally, in extreme weather events, the receivers may break free of their mooring and wash ashore. If you find one, call us on 1300 374 731 (1300 DPIRD1) or email [email protected] to arrange collection of the receiver. See more
12.01.2022 Time to check your EPIRB
09.01.2022 On the 8th June Sea Soaring Marine's Wayne Baddock took members through a simulated night deployment by masking up the wind screens and relying on instruments f...or all navigation tasks. It is really quite demanding and also daunting the first couple of nights when the sun goes down and you realise you are out on the ocean in the pitch black with only your instruments and night vision to keep you safe and on course. Night vision is hard to describe or understand - except when you lose it - usually to someone shining their head torch at you by mistake - all vision is diminished for up to 15 minutes - which can be crucial to your safety sometimes! Our members handled it with customary humour and professionalism! Thanks Wayne. See more
09.01.2022 The hazard near Georgette Street Boat Ramp has been moved to shore and the area is now safe. Well done Rescue 1, and the base tractor.
09.01.2022 Today some group members undertook some classroom pre-training preparation for the Basic Navigation Course being conducted next Sunday. Our Commander, Pete Taylor, set up the truck bay with mini buoys and markers. Group members were required to walk though the course identifying the buoy/marker and what action they would take to navigate them. Meanwhile Rob Logan took group members through the weather component. Not on the water but a must have to qualify to Pathway 4, Senior Crew qualification. Good luck next Sunday troops.
07.01.2022 First day of winter and 2 call out tasks today. Task 1, a tow-in around lunchtime with a boatie reporting a mechanical failure five nautical miles north of Quindalup. They were located and towed back to Port Geographe Marina. Task 2 about an hour later, a dangerous navigational hazard was reported, just offshore and near the jetty. R1 was re-mobilised and located a section of the old jetty which had been lying on the seabed for sometime. The recent storm had stirred it up... from its resting place and the tides and currents dumped it in a recreational boating area not far from Marine House. It was bobbing above and below the surface and it posed a real danger to boaties. The job had similarities to Sundays task. R1 secured a line to the debris and towed it to a buoy in front of Marine House and secured it to our mooring buoy. Due to failing light a portable fender was attached to alert boaties and tomorrow it will brought ashore with the assistance of our tractor, Well done crew of Rescue 1. See more
07.01.2022 What do you do on a cold, wet, windy winters day? Complete Pathway 4 Basic Navigation Course. David MacLean from DFES Perth attended and 8 of our group successfully completed and passed the course. Thanks David for driving down and presenting the course and well done to our MRB participants for taking part and passing.
07.01.2022 Thursday night, in wet and blustery conditions, 7 of our group completed Sea Survival 2 training. Many thanks to Blake Moore from DFES who provided the practical fire extinguisher and fire blanket training, including the provision of equipment. A productive and enjoyable session.

06.01.2022 A bit of a break in the weather yesterday (30.05.2020) so a few boaties took advantage of it for a spot of fishing. One such fisher lost his batteries near Peppermint Beach and required our assistance. Rescue 1 obliged and towed him to the Port Geographe Marina. All's well that ends well.
06.01.2022 Great day with members from MR Augusta, Margs, Naturaliste and Busselton running Two Radio courses back to back. 05.01.2022 Have a look at the arm on the firing mechanism for this lifejacket. Your inflatable lifejacket should be regularly checked as per manufacturer specifications. I...f nothing is specified by the manufacturer, then it should be checked at least every 12 months. An announcement about lifejackets will be posted here tomorrow. See more
