25.01.2022 At Busy Bee’s Wyong we are learning about swim safety this week. So far our children have loved our discussions about this topic at group time. These are some of our fun play areas we have set up this week. Our children even had a go at CPR on our dummies. Great job guys!

24.01.2022 CARE WILL BE AVAILABLE ON WEDNESDAY 16TH DECEMBER FOR MACKILLOP STUDENTS Dear Families, It has been brought to our attention that Mackillop Catholic College is now finishing a day earlier on Tuesday 15th December, 2020.... We had contacted the school prior to planning our vacation care and we were advised that the last day for students would be Wednesday 16th December, however this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore and the school has not advised us of the change to the finishing date for students. Therefore, our vacation care program had only been planned for Thursday and Friday care. We will be opening on Wednesday the 16th December for Mackillop students. This will be a centre day and we will be planning some fun activities to keep the children entertained for the day. Water activities will be included so please pack the required items for the day. If you would like to book this day please use the same booking form, just cross out where it says school day and sign on that day as you normally would to book your child into care. We apologise for any confusion; it is very frustrating for us when the school does not communicate these changes with us, but we will definitely be open. Hope to see you all in the holidays! Kind Regards, Busy Bees OSHC

24.01.2022 Last week at Shelly Beach Busy Bees we learnt all about fire safety. Our students were very interested in ways they can keep themselves and their homes safe coming into summer. As an experiment we demonstrated how fire needs oxygen and fuel to continue to burn, along with the power of water to put out a fire. We demonstrated this with birthday candles, showing the students what happens when oxygen is taken away, when water is poured on and when the candle has very little wax (or fuel). The students were amazed how the flame went out when a jar was placed over the flame to take away the oxygen. We love teaching our Busy Bees knowledge and skills they can use in their day to day lives.

20.01.2022 Wow what an amazing afternoon. Today we were very lucky to have Berkeley Vale Rural Fire Brigade come to visit our Busy Bees. We learnt fire safety, had a truck tour, seen what the fire fighters have to wear and we all had a turn using the fire hose. Coming into summer and warmer weather means we need to be alert and educated on what to do and what not to do when confronted with a fire. Our students all learnt about making a fire escape plan with their families Incase of an emergency. Do you have a fire escape plan at home? Big thank you again to Berkeley Vale Rural Fire Brigade for coming out to our Busy Bees today.

16.01.2022 Day 2 Vacation Care: Wow what a beautiful day. Our Shelly Beach Busy Bees walked to Salt Water Creek Park where we meet with our Warnervale and Wyong Busy Bees. We were blessed with lovely weather and great company. Our kiddos loved getting outdoors and playing on the equipment, along with joining in group games ran by the staff. Our Busy Bees also bought along their bikes and scooters to use the bike track, showing off their tricks and talents. We finished the excursion with an adventure walk along the footpath to see the fish and wildlife. The children got to see a school of bull mullet swimming along and feeding which they were all very amazed at. It feels great to be back outdoors together again.

15.01.2022 At our Shelly Beach Centre, we are constantly trying to incorporate thinking outside of the box. With summer approaching, we love getting the ice blocks out. Such a simple but amazing activity for all our students. We freeze golden coins in water along with paddle pop sticks. The students are then allowed to use natural materials from outside to safely access the coins. Here, our students are working together using different techniques to reach the golden coin. Together they used sticks, the warm concrete, moving the paddle pop sticks and using the warmth of their hands to melt the ice around the coin. The children all took turns and collaborated ideas to get to the coin. We look forward to creating more activities like this for the students!

The students have been enjoying seeing the new features added to our area each day along with all the fun activities such a pumpkin paper mache piñatas, sensory boxes, Halloween scavenger hunts and plenty more. We understand during these Covid times our busy bees may be missing out on their usual Halloween celebrations so we will continue to do our best to create the fun at our centers for them.

03.01.2022 Hey Everyone, we need your help. We desperately need more educators at our centres! We advertised a few weeks ago but we had very little applicants, and many no shows to interviews. Getting applicants to begin with seems to be a big struggle as it is with many centres and organisations on the coast at the moment. We find word of mouth is the best way to get people to apply. If you could please share our job post that has been posted on our page.... This is just for Casual mostly afternoon work, so if anyone knows someone that is looking for work please pass on our information. I know we have many parents that are high school teachers, TAFE Teachers etc. This position would be the perfect opportunity for 2020 school leavers, perhaps someone that is interested in going to UNI next year to studying something to do with children, Teaching, OT etc. We are also open to potentially putting the right applicant on as a trainee. We would really appreciate you sharing our job post and getting the word out there. Thank you for your help. Emmy Busy Bees OSHC * Job post is pinned to the top of our Facebook page
