25.01.2022 We would like to invite our school community to check out our revamped website. A couple of years ago we updated our website, however, we have had many changes at our site in relation to our amalgamation with our Early Learning Centre. The new website captures these changes and the overall format looks AMAZING! A big thank you goes to Julie M for collaborating with Education Web Solutions (EWS) to bring this project to fruition. https://buteps.sa.edu.au... Happy browsing!

25.01.2022 Dear Families, Advice from SA Health and Australia’s expert health body, AHPPC, remains unchanged. Schools, preschools and early childhood facilities are low risk environments for COVID-19, and should remain open. With the current low rates of infection in South Australia, families will be encouraged to have their children return to their classroom for term 2. Parents and carers can choose to send their children to school, preschool or childcare, and feel confident that they ...are not placing their child/ren at increased risk of COVID-19. Of course, we will continue to respect the preferences of parents. If they don’t feel comfortable sending their child/ren to school or preschool for whatever reason, they won’t be obliged to. While schools are low risk environments for COVID-19, there are measures we will continue to take to further reduce the risk of transmission. The department will maintain increased cleaning schedules at all sites, and will source hygiene products such as hand soap, sanitiser and tissues to ensure we have enough stock for our site. As you would also understand we are working with children who may not always remember social distancing and we will continue to encourage this as best we can and set classrooms up as best we can to meet the needs of the current situation. The recently received letters from the DfE have been included with this post. Please contact the school if you have any questions. Kind Regards, Richard

15.01.2022 Warning - this is a brag post For the last 2 years at Bute Early Learning and Primary School, we have had a strong focus on building a culture of lifelong readers and good reading habits. This has included the expectation that all students read for 20 minutes a night, Monday - Thursday and record this information in their reading logs. Our students have continually accepted the challenge to reach this goal, from our Receptions to our oldest students! They continue to amaze... all of us with their commitment and determination to always work hard and improve themselves as learners. This week, our school average was 105 minutes of home reading for the week! Both heartening and inspiring! Thank you to all of our wonderful families who also support the students to achieve these goals! I cannot wait to see the end of term reading minutes that students will accrue...I might need a calculator to work out their totals!

12.01.2022 Another day, another incredibly talented author and illustrator visit to our school...this time in person! Today we welcomed Sally Heinrich who is a highly successful South Australian author, illustrator and artist. Sally has had success with her work all around the world and chances are, you have seen some of her work without even knowing it! Sally shared the process she undertakes when creating her artwork and illustrations, showing some of her many beautiful pictures that... have quite profound messages and insight into the many topics her books cover. Sally also presented our students with their Premier’s Reading Challenge certificates and medallions for 2020. Again, 100% of our students successfully completed the challenge this year! We are always very proud of our students for taking on such challenges with a positive attitude and strong work ethic! Well done everyone! 10.01.2022 A visit to the Marine Discovery Centre (virtually) has rounded out a fantastic 2 weeks of learning about our oceans and waterways as part of National Science Week. Our hosts, Carmen and Georgie, treated our students to a tour of all the different rooms in the Centre and provided some great information about local marine species and the threats humans are imposing on them. I have no doubt, the last 2 weeks of learning (and leading up to Science Week) have had a profound impact on our students and they will help to lead some change in protecting our precious oceans for the future!

05.01.2022 This afternoon the Middle and Upper Primary students sorted through the litter and debris they removed from a local foreshore last week. The students were amazed to discover that they collected over 800 items of litter and remarkably 723 of the items were either plastics or glass! This was all in the space of one hour! This activity reinforced the learning students have undertaken during Science Week, highlighting the importance of disposing of plastics and other materials appropriately to protect our ocean environments. Well done to the students for their efforts and genuine motivation to make a difference!

02.01.2022 From concept to completion...what a beautiful day to get our hands dirty in our new Sustainable Food Garden. Last year we successfully applied for a Woolworths Landcare Grant to re-establish a Sustainable Food Garden. This has involved lots of learning and planning by the students and today we have planted our first crops. We are looking forward to caring for our garden and watching the fruits and vegetables grow (and not to mention eating them!). Thanks to Lyn Bettess for helping us to prepare the garden beds and to Julie McDonald and Steph Murray for donating some of the seedlings for the students to plant.

02.01.2022 Today our school was very privileged to have a (virtual) visit from the highly successful children’s author and illustrator, Sally Rippin!
