25.01.2022 Well done to these Year 8 students and their volunteer mentors, who have been on a 22-week journey of self-discovery as part of the RAISE Mentoring Program. Today’s graduation was a genuine outpouring of gratitude for the kindness, compassion, strength and leadership shown throughout the program. We’re not sure who enjoyed the experience more - the mentors were just as thankful as our students. Each duo spoke about their time together since the start of Term 2 and the frien...dships that have been made along the way. A certificate was awarded to a special contributor for her unconditional love, unwavering support and just being there for everyone Bea, the German Shepherd therapy dog. Many thanks to RAISE, the mentors and our staff for making this program possible for our students. It’s been a wonderful community collaboration and we look forward to next year’s program. #PublicEducationWA See more

23.01.2022 Year 12 students partied in style at their College Ball last Friday night at Frasers Restaurant in Kings Park. With our city skyline as a stunning backdrop, students were welcomed on the lawn, followed by a sumptuous dinner in the Restaurant and then danced the night away! Everyone looked amazing - the ladies were elegantly styled and the men were sharp in their suits (and even a traditional kilt too!). It was a wonderful evening for the students; a celebration of their final year at the College. Many thanks to the staff involved in organising the Ball, especially Head of Year 11/12 Mr Dawkins.

23.01.2022 Applicants for our Year 7 2021 High Performance Programs were put through their paces, with trials for cricket, netball and soccer taking place earlier this week. Our coaches were impressed with the standard of skills from all participating students. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the College in 2021.

22.01.2022 Our Year 8 Academic Extension students enjoyed their CO2 Dragsters Challenge day back in July. Incorporating STEM learning, design and teamwork, students created their team logo's and dragsters, which they raced to find the fastest car. The Academic Extension Program challenges students beyond the classroom, with a significant focus on STEM learning. Applications for the Year 7 2021 Academic Extension Program are closing soon on 28 August, so get yours in today! All the information you need is on our website - https://www.butlercollege.wa.edu.au//academic-extension-pr or call us on 9561 4200.

22.01.2022 Well done to all students for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit at yesterdays House Athletics Carnival. There was a real sense of camaraderie, with everyone having a great time competing and cheering for their House. Music students performed live, adding to the fun atmosphere; not to mention Mr Del Borrellos expert commentary! Congratulations to all Award recipients and to House Roe for finishing on top at the end of a fantastic day. Thanks to all staff, especially Mr Del Borrello and Ms Morley for their excellent planning and preparation of the Carnival.

21.01.2022 What a great day for our College Rugby teams last Friday; competing at home against Atwell College. Before the games, Mr Puletaha & Mr Sherriffs spoke to our squad about the importance of humility, sportsmanship and what it means to be part of a team. Then Principal, Mr Rose, presented their new uniforms (and don't they look fantastic). After team photos and Welcome to Country, it was game on! The support from the student crowd was awesome and our Year 8/9 boys played well, ...coming away with a win in the first game. The second game was a tough encounter, with the Year 10 Atwell boys winning in the end. Thank you to the staff from both schools to make this event happen - the first for the year since COVID restrictions. Thank you to all the players for their skills, respect and sportsmanship, as well as the referees, media students and the crowd for their support. We look forward to future games against Atwell College. See more

20.01.2022 Whether you acknowledged International Friendship Day on 30 July or National Friendship Day today doesnt matter. What really matters is that friends are important to everyone and often referred to as the family we choose ourselves. Friendology 101 by UR Strong is a program we run with our lower school students to help them nurture strong friendships based on respect, trust, tolerance and kindness. We hope you are enjoying today with a friend maybe even a furry friend!

18.01.2022 We love hearing about students success stories when their lives change course away from Butler College. Two such students have created fantastic opportunities through hard work in their chosen fields. Dancer and Year 12 student, Portia has recently been accepted into the highly competitive national Transit Dance Company in Victoria, commencing in 2021.Portias dance, drama and music teachers at Butler College are so proud of her, as are her parents, who are thrilled to see ...Portia follow her dreams. Year 11 student Matthew, was set to return to the College after the last school holidays, when he received an offer that would change his life. Before he knew it, Matthew was on a plane bound for the UK, where he has now started his career at Charlton Athletic Football Club, securing a 2-year scholarship and 1-year Pro Contract. But its not all about football Matthew will be completing his Diploma of Sports Science, A levels in Maths and English as well as a recognised coaching qualification as part of his scholarship. Matthews family are also very proud of him and wish him well in chasing his dream of playing professional football. We wish both these students the very best of luck and hope they will excel in their chosen professions. Portia's image: Upstage Photography See more

18.01.2022 Today, College Captains, Sara and Danny, met with Mr Rose where he thanked them for their contributions to the College. As our senior student leaders, they have experienced a very different final year than their previous counterparts. The blazers may not have been worn very often, but for being wonderful student leaders and College community members, Mr Rose presented the blazers to our Captains as a momento of their time here. Well done, Sara and Danny, and we wish you all the best in your futures after Butler College.

16.01.2022 In May, Education Consultant Dr Rashmi Watson conducted a survey on our behalf to discover how our students and staff were coping during the COVID-19 lockdown in WA. We invite you to read her article, published in the ACER: Teacher Magazine yesterday - https://www.teachermagazine.com.au//student-perceptions-of Rashmis research has been commended by the Department of Educations Director General, Lisa Rodgers. We also commend Rashmi for the fantastic work she has done, which has given us a clear picture of how we can further improve our practices in implementing online learning for the benefit of all students.

16.01.2022 Yesterday we welcomed Quinton from the Perth Hills Discovery Centre to our Australian History & Culture classes. He talked about the intrinsic connection between the Indigenous people, the Australian environment and its ecosystems; a bond for over 65,000 years. Quinton demonstrated the interconnection between native animals and plants, using string to show their reliance on each other to co-exist in perfect balance. Students read out their animal or plant card and their stri...ng was stretched out to another student’s animal or plant that relied upon them. In doing so, the students learned that if just one animal or plant became extinct, there would be serious consequences for all animals and plants. There was just enough time for a ‘show and tell’ with traditional Indigenous items including a Karl Boorn (grass tree stem used to create fire), a Kitj (a spear) and a Yandi (a multipurpose dish carved out of a tree, shown here as a baby carrier). Many thanks to Quinton for an informative and thoroughly engaging presentation. See more

15.01.2022 Today we take a look at the MUSIC learning area. Keep an eye on the College Facebook page over the next week for the remaining Arts promo videos. 14.01.2022 If your child flopped on the lounge and dozed off after school today, it may be because they had a blast at our BC Festival! With rides, slides, mini golf, farm animals, sports, water guns, food trucks, silent disco, music, games and even a movie/chill-out zone (phew!), everyone had a fantastic time. The annual BC Festival is a celebration for students with good attendance and behaviour throughout the school year. Thank you to all the providers who make our Festival so wonderful each year. Thanks to our hard working Student Services team and all our staff for a great day, and to the Butler College P&C for their financial assistance, ensuring free entry for the students.

13.01.2022 Wishing Year 12 students a wonderful evening at their Ball tomorrow night! For students going to the Ball, they have the option to attend school for the full day (normal classes will run) OR stay at home to prepare (with parent permission). Students choosing to attend school will not be permitted to leave early. Many thanks to the staff involved in the preparations for the Ball, especially Head of Year, Mr Dawkins. Our venue, Frasers Restaurant at Kings Park, has gone to great lengths (including complying with COVID-19 safety regulations) to ensure the Ball is a fantastic night for our students. We hope everyone enjoys the glamour and excitement of the Ball, dancing the night away at Fraser's Restaurant.

13.01.2022 Last weeks annual Health Expo was a huge success for Year 12 Health students and their teacher, Ms Remi. Our invited guests showcased their services in health, sport and community, and were delighted with the students enthusiasm and variety of questions. The Health students also hosted their own stands including phobias, diabetes, sugar consumption and a competition to guess teacher baby photos. We commend the Year 12s for their superb planning and running of the Expo. Thanks to everyone who donated a gold coin for UNICEF and to Mr Johnson, Mr Hatch and the music students for their wonderful entertainment. A big thank you to all the presenters for their support - we look forward to seeing you again next year.

12.01.2022 Our Year 12 students are excited to host the 2020 Health Expo tomorrow (25 Aug), which they have organised over several months with Health teacher, Ms Remi. This year, they have included a fundraising initiative; a gold coin donation for UNICEF. We kindly ask students attending the Expo to bring a $1 or $2 coin for this worthwhile cause. UNICEF are currently assisting Australians engaged in critical work to stop the spread of COVID-19 and also respond to urgent needs in the Australian community. Students will meet with many agencies at the Expo, including Headspace, Helping Minds, Royal Life Saving WA, Carers WA and the WA Fire Department. See the Connect notice for more details.

12.01.2022 This week Year 11 General Marine Studies students performed their Snorkel Rescue assessment in fair conditions at Sorrento Beach. Using skills developed at school, they identified water hazards, located an unconscious victim 50m off shore and rescued them back to safety. CPR was then simulated on the beach to complete the scenario. Assessors from Sorrento Surf Life Saving and teachers, Mr Montague and Mr Candeloro supervised everyone throughout the assessment. Well done to all students who showed a great deal of resilience in this ‘real world’ assessment, gaining a deep appreciation for the effort and fitness required to perform arduous rescues in the aquatic environment.

11.01.2022 Next year 22 tenacious Year 10 students will get a head start on their future careers by undertaking weekly vocational education training at North Metro TAFE, the College of Electrical Training, Motor Trades Association WA and Master Plumbers Association. Securing places in pathway programs in building & construction, education support, events management, hairdressing, automotive (electrical/mechanical), plumbing, laboratory sampling & measurement and screen/media, will be fa...ntastic opportunities for these students. Each student secured a fully funded training place by submitting an application with their school report and sitting aptitude tests and interviews quite an experience for these young people. We wish them all the best in their chosen program next year and we’ll see them back at school too! (Unfortunately not everyone was available at the time of the photo shoot.) See more

11.01.2022 Butler College is through to the National Finals of Australia’s largest youth public speaking competition! A huge congratulations to Aiva and Daniel, who delivered two outstanding speeches at last night’s State Final of the United Nations Youth Voice competition. The competition requires each student to propose a solution to a major national or global issue and then answer two impromptu questions about their proposal. Daniel suggested that we support Australian agriculture by... using vertical farming to reposition agriculture at the heart of our national identity and Aiva argued that the best way to start preventing domestic and family violence across Australia was to hold our sports stars more accountable for their off-field violence. Aiva finished second in the state and thereby earned a place at next year’s National Finals while Daniel narrowly missed out. Nonetheless, these incredible young leaders both outperformed students from schools including Perth Modern, Hale, Rossmoyne and Shenton to earn their place amongst the finest student speakers in Western Australia. We’ll soon be uploading recordings of the speeches they delivered so watch this space! See more

11.01.2022 Do you remember back in March this year when Kahana Park was on fire? (see our post 3 March). Our Bush Ranger cadets have been working on rejuvenating the bushland by planting hundreds of tubestock native plants over the past week. Last Friday, our Specialist Program Bush Rangers started the planting process and thankfully the weather was just perfect! Thank you to the City of Wanneroo for organising the plants and to Sasha for helping us on the day! We hope to see the bushland back to its natural best in the months ahead.

10.01.2022 Today we take a look at the PHOTOGRAPHY learning area. Keep an eye on the College Facebook page over the next week for the remaining Arts promo videos. Subject selections are coming up for lower school students in Term 3, so if you have any questions, please come up to the Arts Office in G Block and speak to one of the Arts teachers.

10.01.2022 What do 800 icy poles, 120 vouchers, 50 Golden Tickets, 50 Wicked Wednesdays and one Ultimate Lunch have in common? Happy students that’s what! These were awarded to students in our RIK Tokens initiative. Part of our Positive Behaviour Support program, students received tokens for embracing our values (Knowledge, Integrity & Respect) in their daily school lives. Tokens were randomly selected each week for icy poles, canteen vouchers and Wicked Wednesdays (who knew that wearing your PE uniform for a day would be so much fun?) Vouchers were awarded at Assemblies and the Ultimate Lunch winner was selected from over 8,000 tokens. The final prize will be for the House with the most tokens who will it be?! The positive impact of this program has been amazing - well done to all students!

08.01.2022 Well done to Year 11 students Aiden and Jamie, creators of the documentary, ‘Our Last Hope’ a call to action to stop climate change. The short film explains the current situation - that without immediate intervention by everyday people, the world’s climate will suffer devastating consequences affecting us all. A project entirely of their own making, they produced the film over the past year; researching, interviewing, filming and editing. They are now showing it at local s...chools, including Quinns Beach and East Butler Primary Schools, Clarkson Community High School, Alkimos College and of course, Butler College. The presentations are going very well, with front man Aiden engaging student audiences everywhere they go. Their goal is to show the film and inspire young people at as many schools as they possibly can. If you would like Aiden and Jamie to present 'Our Last Hope' at your school, please contact Butler College for more information. Fantastic effort boys! #PublicEducationWA See more

07.01.2022 Welcome home to our High Performance Netballers, who have just returned from their southwest tour. The girls played competitively against Albany, Denmark, Kojonaup, Mount Barker and North Albany Senior High Schools, winning two of six games. Off court the girls enjoyed being on camp together, participating in archery, visiting the ANZAC Centre in Albany and braving icy beach recovery sessions! Well done girls and thank you to coaches, Ms Sam Lee and Ms Calandra Smith.

05.01.2022 After a long delay, our Year 9/10 Boys Soccer team took to the pitch this term to play in a 5-team competition against Churchlands, Ocean Reef and Balga Senior High Schools, and Emmanuel Christian Community School. After consecutive defeats the boys regrouped to produce two excellent wins. This saw the team finish 2nd behind overall winners Churchlands SHS. With most of the boys in our High Performance Soccer program, they competed against older students with confidence, demonstrating their skills after much hard work at training sessions. This competition was a great opportunity for the team to grow and improve in time for next years School Sports WA Competition.

05.01.2022 Well done to Aiva and Daniel, who will compete in tonight’s State Final of UN Youth Australia’s ‘Youth Voice’, a public speaking competition for Year 7-10 students. Serious state, national and global issues will be presented, with Aiva speaking about domestic violence and Daniel discussing the state of our agricultural industry. From the 8 heats held across WA (with 100+ students competing), only 10 students made it through to the State Finals, including Daniel and Aiva an outstanding achievement. The competition will culminate with the National Finals in Canberra next year, so we wish these fine young people the best of luck for tonight!

04.01.2022 Today we acknowledge White Ribbon Day, a global social movement working towards a society where all women and children are safe from violence. It’s important to understand the cycle of violence, starting with disrespectful behaviour. We do our best to set a good example, but sometimes, without meaning to, we might say things that excuse disrespectful behaviour in young people. Not all disrespect towards women results in violence, but all violence against women starts with disrespectful behaviour. We all play a vital role in breaking this cycle. To learn more, go to https://www.respect.gov.au/ or https://www.whiteribbon.org.au/ or https://www.1800respect.org.au
