24.01.2022 If you are watching Long Lost Family on ITV, the interviews happened in the garden at the Butt of Sherry.

24.01.2022 As pub companies now rush to finalise plans before reopening on the 4th, please remember that not a single member of bar staff is suddenly an expert in disease control, politics or even the policies of their own Pub Co. So when 20 of you show up to finally go out on the lash after 3 months of lockdown, it's not the minimum wage barmaid's decision to tell you no, but she HAS to anyway. When 6 of you try to book a meal because you've not seen your grandkids for 3 months, it's n...ot the manager's fault group sizes are limited so don't demand to see them and tell them they're wrong. BoJo is again relying on the "common sense of the people" (don't get me started) so PLEASE remember that when pubs aren't exactly how you remember them, or hoped they would be, we've all been in lockdown too. No, we can't just move some tables together. No, we can't turn a blind eye (you know, just this once). And no, a bad Trip Advisor review won't help. Things will get back to normal, just not straight away. Please be patient with us. And show some common sense. Ta.

22.01.2022 Hi all, I am looking for a stair gate and wonder if anyone has one that they no longer need.

17.01.2022 1st beer delivery in 3 months

17.01.2022 I cannot lie, I approached yesterday’s opening with a great deal of trepidation. I worried that no one would come in, worried that too many people would want to come in. I didn’t know how people would take to the new guidelines that we have been forced to implement. I wasn’t sure about how we would cope with the additional cleaning regimes that we have had to put in place, nor how we would cope with the slower table service that we have to do. After we closed the doors last... night I can honestly say that yesterday was brilliant. A huge thank you to all of you who came to support us on our first day. Hearing your lockdown stories, listening to people laughing and chatting and reconnecting with each other, I had so much fun and I hope you all did too. See you soon

15.01.2022 It’s the weekend. Sunshine and 2 pink gins with tonic for only 9.00. Aaaaahhhhhhhh

05.01.2022 Hi everyone, As you will all know we will be reopening on Saturday 4th July at 12 noon. Our space is very limited as we are all social distancing. You will need to reserve a table in advance for a period of 2 hours by messaging the Butt of Sherry Facebook page or by calling us on 01747 860352 (please don’t call before 10am). I will get back to you to confirm your booking. There will be a one way flow system as you enter and leave the building, more details on this and othe...r measures will be posted during this week. We have very strict rules from the government about how things will be while you are here: You must sanitize your hands as you enter the building. No standing allowed inside the building you must sit at a table. The area in front of the bar is for accessing the toilets or garden only. Table service is mandatory, we have yet to confirm how that will work for the garden. Only one person allowed in the toilets at any one time. Two households maximum are allowed to sit together inside. In the garden you can have 1 person from 6 different households sitting together. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times. The gaming machine and the juke box will not be available. External doors will be wedged open regardless of the weather conditions to allow a good flow of fresh air. We will not be accepting cash payments to start with. If you book a table for the garden and it starts to rain we will not be able to accommodate you inside the building if all tables are being used. We have been able to source umbrellas for each of the tables in the garden and hope this will protect you from light showers. No moving of chairs and tables please We are working towards an app that will allow you to order and pay from your tables and will let you have more information on this as soon as we get it. I know that things are going to be different when we reopen. It’s going to be a learning curve for all of us and we hope that you will bear with us in the early days whilst we all get used to it. On the positive side we will be open and you can come down for a drink or some food from our very limited menu. We can’t wait to see you all and hope you feel the same. Brenden and Dawn

04.01.2022 Hi all, We are now taking walk ins though you can still reserve a table by calling us if you prefer. Please call during opening hours as we do not have an answerphone. I have been advised that our Facebook messaging option is not working. We don’t know why but have someone looking into this for us.... Our hours are 12 til 4pm, then 6 til 11 pm Tuesday through Sunday. This gives us a couple of hours in the middle of the day to sterilise and clean everything. We are still closed all day on Mondays. If you haven’t visited the garden recently, pop by for a beer. It looks amazing with the new furniture and lighting. Hope to see you soon. Very warm regards

01.01.2022 To all of our amazing customers....... I can now confirm that the Butt of Sherry has been sold. The new owners are a pub management company called Oxygen 56. ...They did offer Brenden and myself a tenancy agreement which we have decided not to accept. As a result, Bren and I have been given notice to vacate by the 28th August. At this time we do not know where we will end up though we are confident that our current management company have feelers out to find the right pub for us to move into. To all of you who have supported us during our 15 months here we would like to say a massive thank you and to those who have bought shares, the Mere Community benefit society will be in touch with you soon to discuss returning your generous share purchases. It only remains to say that we have loved being here in Mere and working as part of this wonderful community. We are very sorry to leave but life clearly has another adventure for us. We hope you will pop in and see us over the course of the next month to say goodbye and raise a glass to the future. Bren and Dawn
