25.01.2022 A study conducted by scientists at the University of Basel in Switzerland, has found that laughter can act as a buffer for stress. They identified that individuals who laugh frequently tend to experience more minor symptoms of stress than others. What is also interesting is that the effectiveness of laughter has not been found to be linked to its intensity, even smiling can be enough to reduce stress symptoms. 24.01.2022 The revolutionary and innovative nature of the Buurtzorg model could be compared to turning off traffic lights in central Amsterdam. This was an experiment made in 2016 to test if no traffic lights and barriers would alleviate the busy bicycle traffic there. The predictions of officials were that the situation would be a mess and a chaos. However, the results are shown to be the opposite now journeys in central Amsterdam are more pleasant and take less time than bef...ore. People are required to engage with their surroundings and adapt to the new environment, where they are able to form new behaviours and routines. This shows how unexpected fundamental changes can have effective outcomes, just like the Buurtzorg model. Read more from the article below! 24.01.2022 Did you know that our memory plays a great role in identifying the odours we smell? It has been established that while the nose is responsible for identifying the chemical contents in the odour, the brain compares the smell to those we have encountered earlier. The brain would not be able to fully identify the origin of the smell, only based on the information obtained by the nose. 22.01.2022 Did you know that the relationship dynamics in groups of Gorillas are relatively similar to those of humans? Researchers from University of Exeter have discovered that in numerically larger groups of Gorilla, there are proportionally more weak relationships in comparison to smaller groups. This suggests that Gorillas seem to form their own friendship circles and may thus have a limit to stable and frequent social interactions. ... This behaviour is very similar to that of humans, who can have a large number of acquaintances but tend to have less than 5 close friends. There are different ways people show their support for the movement, for example, growing a moustache or participating in Move for Movember. Our HR and Payroll Officer Ben has signed up to run 15km to draw attention to men’s suicide and raise funds for its prevention. Ben is doing the run to raise awareness for a friend of his who died by suicide during the middle of last year. He feels like it is very important to bring to light the struggles that some people go through and to always be open in helping them through these times.
