10.01.2022 We received a call today from one of the marshals at the Outback Challenge. They had an interesting story about an Icom IC-41W hand held unit. The marshal told ...us that they were setting up for the Mad Max Stage. This is located 40 minutes north of Broken Hill and they had not run a stage in that area for two years. While setting up the stage they spotted something on the ground. And to their surprise they found the IC-41W which they left there two years ago. The marshal turned the unit on and it still worked after all this time. The Marshall said that this had been the wettest September they had experienced in years and two hot summers. They were so impressed that they called our office and sent us pictures of the unit and the stage to show. Well of course there still hope for the other two Icom’s they lost their two years ago! The Outback Challenge is a weeklong 4WD off-road event run in the Australian Outback around Broken Hill in NSW. 04.01.2022 Now don't go calling me the uhf police. Can I just ask people to realise what the first 1-8 channels are repeater channels, this also applies to 31-38 Please ke...ep them open for repeater use only. We have now been allocated 78 channels as opposed to the old 38. Plenty of other channels can be used. I was trying to talk to my partner on the weekend, we could both trigger a repeater in the area but I felt rude to talk over other people so we just had to use the phones in and out of reception. It pissed me off, purely because these people were in convoy. How do I know? Because one asked the other why they were stopping and had a chat about what line to take. I also heard a group on channel 5 which if you're not sure what channel 5 and 35 is meant for, read your book. Whether or not you listen and take note of this is out of my control. But it would be nice to have consideration and cooperation between others who enjoy getting out.

One of... the reasons why online stores can sell things cheaply is that they are actually not genuine items. This is an example of an Icom radio being sold online at $100 less than RRP. The charger worth $109 is FAKE!!! It is not only dangerous, does not meet the Australian Standards and since it doesn't have a overload / overcharge protection, it WILL damage the radio.
