My work is a hyper-realistic style using photographs to draw my subjects in black and white. I visited Giverney, where Claude Monet lived and painted for many years and walked through garden planted with the irises and over the little bridge which is portrayed in many of his paintings. I was in heaven..... My Lily paintings, so I have been told, have a Monet look and feel to them. Today, I describe my work as having two directions; abstract impressionism and landscape impressionism. Abstract Impressionism is often characterised by gestural brush strokes and/or mark making, with the impression of spontaneity. I love the boldness and impulsiveness of abstract impressionism, where I can let go and express a concept in my own way, using colours which change as they are blended together. I love both the serenity and sometimes strong subject of Landscape Expressionism. Often, I start with an abstract idea but it invariably evolves as a landscape. I have a strong affinity with nature, and the colours and textures of rocks, trees and water often capture my imagination.
