25.01.2022 An interesting new NHMRC-funded study with the Adelaide Institute of Sleep Health is asking the simple question,is Positional Modification Therapy using the BuzzPOD as effective as CPAP for those whose snoring and/or sleep apnoea is mostly whilst sleeping on their back? Publication is due soon...

23.01.2022 Some nights, I find it so diffcult to shut out thoughts..the Sleep Health Foundation in Australia have the following advice 8. What if you can’t shut off your mind? Some people lie awake in bed at night and cannot switch of their thoughts. If this is a problem, set aside a ‘worry time’ during the evening. Use this time to think about what has been happening during the day, make plans and possible solutions. Then don’t think about these things until the next day. Keep the hour... before bed as your wind down time develop a routine that prepares your body and mind for sleep. Listen to quiet music or do relaxation. Remember that we can never shut off our mind. Our thoughts continue all the time, so try to make them calmer thoughts. Create a favourite fantasy place. Or daydream of your favourite holiday spot. If other thoughts come in, consider them for a moment and then try to gently replace them with calm thoughts. If you still can‘t sleep despite your best attempts at relaxing and trying to calm your thoughts, go out of the bedroom and wait until you’re sleepy and tired and then try again. See more

23.01.2022 The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (developed by Dr Murray Jones) is an excellent way to establish if you have sleep apnoea and it's severity. Google it and do the test!

21.01.2022 Love a $ for every time I have had BuzzPOD users tell me that the BuzzPOD has replaced the elbow in the ribs from one's partner..maybe a name change to "The Nudge"...?

18.01.2022 The value of the 7 night Trial is that sleep position data is recorded. Some nights the BuzzPOD is programmed to vibrate when the sleeper rolls on to their back, other nights no vibration. The data is analysed to reveal if the BuzzPOD was effective in keeping the sleeper off their back.If it shows the device was ineffective then a sale is ill-advised.

17.01.2022 Always a pleasure to realise that, with all the fancy watch and phone apps available, a standalone device like the BuzzPOD is still preferred. As long as it works!

16.01.2022 Interesting that people report to us that they use the BuzzPOD intermittently..they report that they become conditioned to sleeping OFF their back..after a while however they return to sleeping on their back...and need to start using it again!

15.01.2022 The Adelaide Institute of Sleep Health www.adelaidesleephealth.org.au/ research all aspects of sleep. They have just completed a study comparing CPAP machines with the BuzzPOD for people with positional Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. I am looking forward to the results in the published paper!

14.01.2022 The first time many people become aware that they have sleep anoea is when they wake up gasping, having dreamt they were drowning..An awful experience but the body's reflex response to low oxygen levels is effective!

13.01.2022 Unlike competitive devices, the BuzzPOD has been developed in Melbourne, Australia without the involvement of a large national or multinational company. Every device is built and tested by this small company before being shipped. Much of the business therefore depends on Michael Gorman (me), the designer, dealing directly with the end-user.For me it is always a pleasure to receive a call from someone who has used the device for 5 years and makes contact about a new chestband or the purchase of a new device!

13.01.2022 In an effort to contribute to recycling material given finite world resources, until Covid19 I have always used 2nd hand bubble wrap for Trial units. Multiple uses = less landfill. But until Covid19 has passed we will only use new bubble wrap so as to reduce any chance of spreading the virus.

09.01.2022 An appearance on the ABC TV's "New Inventors" in 2009 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YW06h5jFno) got the ball rolling for the BuzzPOD. I didn't win but the exposure was excellent and the emails poured in.. unfortunately about 50% of those enquiring thought I had invented a 'cure for snoring' ! I talked more people out of purchasing a unit rather than purchasing one! It was at this time that I developed the Trial concept which allows the person to first establish whether the device is effective with them, whether it gets them off their back.. the device collects this data with vibration on and vibration off and compares the time on the back. The person Trialing can then make an informed decision.

08.01.2022 The BuzzPOD idea came to me in conversation with a family member who lamented the fact that her husband snored while sleeping on his back... which he tended to do after enjoying one too many wines! Perhaps I can encourage someone to move off their back with a subtle vibrational stimulus I thought...the seed was sown..But 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration... inventing something and seeing it through is not for the faint hearted! However, the fact it has changed even one person's life makes it worthwhile..

07.01.2022 Very uplifting to receive this from a longtime BuzzPOD user- "I am 71 years old and was diagnosed with sleep apnoea in 2014. At that time l started using a CPAP machine. Two years later l was retested and found not to have sleep apnoea when sleeping on my side. I tried several things to try and keep me on my side, including a ball attached to the back of my pyjamas also a pillow up against my back. Nothing worked until l saw the BuzzPOD (Body Position Orientating Device )on... TV and bought one. I used it every night for over a year and thought l had trained myself to stay on my side when sleeping; so I put the BuzzPOD in a drawer. After a month of perseverance l had to go back to using my BuzzPOD every night. I can highly recommend the BuzzPOD to anyone who needs to sleep on their side for whatever the reason. Good sleep is so important to good health , emotional wellbeing and keeping bad moods in check . Thanks BuzzPOD for giving me back my life . Kevin PS The BuzzPOD is so easy to use, it's a dream and not a nightmare. "

07.01.2022 It is still puzzling that so many health professionals I meet know so little about Sleep Apnoea. Other than a general notion of "...Don't they stop breathing?,, the depth of understanding of the negative health impacts of Sleep Apnoea is minimal even within this group. But sleep apnoea means and is defined as stopping breathing for LONGER than 10 secs but repeating this MORE than 3 times per hour. Noting that extreme cases involving stopping breathing for up to 1 minute and doing this many more times than 3 per hour. Not good the level of Oxygen in the blood!

03.01.2022 Very encouraging that GPs are referring as many patients as Sleep Specialists. The message is getting through that sleep without constant waking due to sleep apnoea has real health benefits!
