23.01.2022 Parker calls for Australians to #DLDSEEME Parker, is an amazing photographer with nearly 4000 followers on his Instagram & Facebook pages (PHL Photos) and he... really enjoys participating in a range of sports. Parker also has Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) a hidden but common condition that affects two children in the average classroom. Parker was originally diagnosed with dyslexia in Grade 3 but due to continual difficulties at school that were not totally explained by dyslexia he received a diagnosis of DLD in early 2020. "’ ’ . . , ' . . . ’ , , . Having a label has been life-changing for Parker. It explains why he finds it difficult to understand when a teacher gives him an instruction and why he finds it hard to concentrate with his mind often going blank. ’ ." Parker wants people to know that having DLD doesn’t mean you are ‘lazy’ or ‘stupid’. Just like him, the 1 in 14 people with DLD are working incredibly hard to keep up with what’s going on around them. . ." Parker speaks adamantly about the importance of not being singled out. He doesn’t want to be treated differently. "’ . ’ . . . Thank you Parker for sharing your story with us! Wise words from a young man with a very bright future behind the lens. We can see a DLDSeeMe photo exhibition on the cards for the future for sure!! Help Parker achieve his goal of raising awareness of DLD by sharing this post with your networks. For people with DLD and their families be sure to head to our website to access our FREE evidence-based, DLD specific information, resources, and training ==> https://thedldproject.com/ #DLDSEEME #DEVLANGDIS #DLD #THEDLDPROJECT

19.01.2022 A great reminder for us parents & family, especially during this hectic season of end of preschool/ school events etc etc. Thank you Mrs Speechie P! Some children work very hard to hold it together at preschool/ school (or anywhere where expectations of them can be high) ... so, when they get home, to their safe space, with the people who love them no matter what, they let all that pent up emotion out. They will need you to help them through it

10.01.2022 Late Talking Parents who are concerned about their toddler’s talking / late talking are often told, wait and see or that a family member didn’t speak until they were 5... This well meaning advice is given without thought to the affect that delaying access to Speech Pathology can have on children. It is very hard to predict with 100% certainty which children will go on to catch up without any long term learning/ language/ literacy issues.... So, if you are concerned about your child’s communication, seek advice from the allied health professional who is qualified to properly advise you, a Speech Pathologist. I’ll share two articles from Hanen.org that you may find helpful. Catherine. Photo by Jelleke Vanooteghem on Unsplash unsplash.com
