19.01.2022 Great New Australian History Publication "The Black-Allan Line":

18.01.2022 Save Our Courthouse Bega Valley Genealogy Society’s Home The original founding members of the Bega Valley Genealogy Society had a fight on their hands to maintain their new found home, the Old Pambula Court House and Police Station when the NSW Police Service decided to dispose of the historic building in 1992. Now we are having to do it again, history repeats. This year the Society was due to sign another 5 year lease/rent agreement with the Bega Valley Shire ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Put pen to paper and finger to keyboard and help save theBega Valley Genealogy Society Keeping our Research Heritage Alive The Bega Valley Genealogy Society is ...a non for profit group. Our Genealogy / Museum is an integral part of the Bega Valley. Here is no way we can afford to pay the increased rent the Bega Valley Shire Councils wants for the Old Pambula Police Station & Courthouse. The Society was founded in 1987, for nearly thirty -five years the volunteers have been collecting and preserving local history. Many volunteers have dedicated thousands of thousands of hours to the preservation of the Bega Valley history, for present and future generations. If this treasured collection of the Valley’s history disappears or is allowed to fall into disrepair, it can never be replace. We are here as a society doing our best, but we do need help from the BVSC, don’t they care about our Valley’s history, it is not all on the internet, they should be protecting the Archives with us. The BVGS offers an excellent extensive research facility for the public. It provides us with a unique record that vividly captures the life of the Bega Valley and its pioneers. In our main library room there is over 460 family histories and biographies. Also in our treasured collections of the past, ledgers such as Imlay Shire, Mumbulla Shire and Bega Municipality rates, Kameruka and Ayrdale collections, to name a few. It is very important to note that Kameruka and Ayrdale collections, cannot be accessed anywhere else in the world. Just between these two collections alone, there is over 83,000 professionally scanned images, and still going. Volunteers are in the progress of indexing these records. They were given to the Society with the understanding that the entire collections, are to remain in the Bega Valley. (The Society has been bequeathed money to digitize the collections, to protect the originals and be an easy access for researches). A huge slice of the shires history. When the Society first received a large section of the Kameruka collection. Deb Spoehr and Sharon Towns from Conservatrix were engaged by our Society to carry out work and the records which needed to be professionally restored and stabilised were tended to by them. It is very interesting to note that our Society was advised by Conservatrix that the room in which the collection was stored, was more than satisfactory in which to house these records and that it did not require the installation of expensive humidity monitoring equipment Threat of moving the fragile collection from the OPCHPS building would not be recommended. The Eden Whale Museum is the only other building in the shire, with suitable archive storage and couldn’t accommodate our large collections as well as theirs. The Pambula Police Station and Courthouse is the only local law enforcement building of its kind in the community, which is assessable to the general public. As others are still in use or have been sold off. The Courtroom has been used by Local High schools for their mock trails (debates), overflow at exam time, primary school excursions, general community meetings and seminars. It has been the home of the BVGS since 1992 over 29 years. I would urge you to support the Bega Valley Genealogy Society occupancy of the OPCHPS, so the amazing Archive collections and Local history, is always available to all. A call to Arms - Please write to your BVS Councillors, State and Federal Members - Thankyou See more

15.01.2022 IF YOU ARE INTERESTING IN LOCAL MUSEUMS, HISTORY & GENEALOGY. Go to the Bega Valley Shire Council web site, select 'Meeting Agendas and Minutes'. View the Agenda for the 25th November 2020. Item 11.2 Bega Valley Shire Museums and attachment. It is a very IMPORTANT read - as many of our readers do volunteer and this could happen to your society one day.

13.01.2022 I did not write this and I’m not sure who did - but WOW does it speak to my heart!!! Worth the read. Don’t wait to read it later! Barely the day started and... ...it's already six in the evening. Barely arrived on Monday and it's already Friday. ... and the month is already over. ... and the year is almost over. ... and already 40, 50 or 60 years of our lives have passed. ... and we realize that we lost our parents, friends. and we realize it's too late to go back... So... Let's try, despite everything, to enjoy the remaining time... Let's keep looking for activities that we like... Let's put some color in our grey... Let's smile at the little things in life that put balm in our hearts. And despite everything, we must continue to enjoy with serenity this time we have left. Let's try to eliminate the afters... I'm doing it after... I'll say after... I'll think about it after... We leave everything for later like after is ours. Because what we don't understand is that: Afterwards, the coffee gets cold... afterwards, priorities change... Afterwards, the charm is broken... afterwards, health passes... Afterwards, the kids grow up... Afterwards parents get old... Afterwards, promises are forgotten... afterwards, the day becomes the night... afterwards life ends... And then it's often too late.... So... Let's leave nothing for later... Because still waiting see you later, we can lose the best moments, the best experiences, best friends, the best family... The day is today... The moment is now... We are no longer at the age where we can afford to postpone what needs to be done right away. So let's see if you have time to read this message and then share it. Or maybe you'll leave it for... later "... And you'll never share it....

12.01.2022 With the condemnation of the old co-op building and the Fishermen’s Club under contract of sale, and following on from the cannery closure, the links with our l...ocal commercial fishing heritage are fraying at an ever increasing rate. I’d really love to put together a slide show to document this incredibly significant aspect of our history so if anyone has images they’d be happy to share, please post and I’ll work on compiling them into a visual history of one of our district’s most historically important industries... 10.01.2022 The BVGS have been donating the book 'Remembering Bega Valley Servicemen of World War 1 - Battlefield and War Related Deaths by Pat Raymond. The book contains stories of 185 men, it is an excellent reference for people tracing family histories or a great read for those of us who love reading about history.

09.01.2022 Save our Courthouse. We have been putting our case out to the general public, on social media pages. It has just been pointed out to us that, we had not included contact details for our Bega Valley Shire Councillors, State and Federal members, they are now below. We are asking for letters of support, so put pen to paper or finger to the keyboard and help us with our plight. We want to be helping our communities and looking after The Valleys’ priceless collection of history. ... Campaign Contacts State Local Member The Hon. Andrew Constance M.P. P.O. 02.01.2022 We, the committee of The Bega Valley Genealogy Society are asking the wonderful people who left comments on our posts to support us and write a email to our Bega Valley Shire Councillors. Personal emails have a better response than the generic type. Sorry we had the wrong email address for the BVSC. it is [email protected] sorry for the mistake.
