25.01.2022 You may have woken to a smoky and calm morning. The winds and temperatures will pick up soon. Weather scientists are keeping a close watch on conditions, and we... are on track to experience the dangerous fire conditions predicted. Catastrophic fire danger is forecast for the Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter and Illawarra/Shoalhaven areas. There is also widespread Severe and Extreme fire danger. These are very dangerous conditions. If you are in a high risk area that may be impacted by fire, now is the time to take action. Avoid bushland areas. The advice today is simple - avoid bush fire prone areas. Dont put yourself in danger. Go to a safer location, such as a built up area in a larger town or city. Due to the scale of the fires and the dangerous conditions, if you need help today you may not get it. At 9am, there is 57 bush or grass fires. 28 are uncontained. Report any new fire to Triple Zero (000). Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe.

23.01.2022 Being developed by CWP Renewables, the Bango Wind Farm is located in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, (about 30 km north of Yass and about 13 km south of Boorowa) as an approved development. The wind farm will consist of 46 x 5.3 MW wind turbines, which will have a capacity of just over 240 MW. These turbines will generate enough power for more than 100,000 homes and saving over 600,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

23.01.2022 BANGO WIND FARM GOES TO SCHOOL>>>> Before COVID-19, BWF had a lot of fun going to local schools to talk with the students and teachers about wind power, wind farms and the Bango Wind Farm in particular. So far we have visited Yass Public School, Bowning Public School and Boorowa Central School. COVID-19 slowed us down a little for the meantime! There have been some very interesting suggestions from the students when asked for their ideas about re-cycling used blades. One yo...ung boy (year 4) suggested that some could be used as footy posts. Great idea! We also spent time with the students making old fashioned spinners (for the younger students) - see image - and having the older students work in teams to make working windmills from recycled and craft materials - similar to the ones they are looking at in the second image. They did a fantastic job lots of innovation and creativity on display. Well done to all! See more

23.01.2022 A statewide total fire ban is now in force. That means no fires out in the open anywhere in NSW, for all of Monday and Tuesday. Very dangerous fire conditions a...re forecast for Tuesday. Catastrophic fire danger is expected in Sydney and the Hunter. Avoid bush fire prone areas. Severe and Extreme fire danger is forecast for many areas, including the north coast where theres already a significant number of fires burning. Under tomorrows weather conditions, these fires will spread quickly and threaten lives and properties. Use today to get ready and know what you will do to reduce your risk.

22.01.2022 While there are a number of people and resources from throughout Australia onsite at varying times, CWP Renewables (CWPR) and Bango Wind Farm (BWF) contractors are fully across the current NSW Government requirements and are taking proactive measures to ensure that the communities around BWF workers and others remain safe. These measures include (but are not limited to): - Workers use QR to scan in and out of the worksite, with random monitoring for compliance conducted. ... - Temperature checks and monitoring for symptoms continues to be undertaken daily when workers attend site. This has been in place from the start of the Covid situation and has proven to be a good first line of defence. - Masks are mandatory in all site offices and capacity of each room along with a reminder to wear a mask is posted on the entry to all offices. - Main component deliveries drivers and escorts are logging on to QR code and having temperature checks completed, and minimal contact with the wider crews being ensured. Through these and other actions taken by CWPR and contractors, activity has continued on BWF and there have been no cases of Covid-19 within the workforce. CWPR continues to monitor NSW Government advice and procedures and will adopt all measures required.

22.01.2022 When BWF was at school recently (BC-19 before COVID-19) we spent time with students making hand-held windmills (pin wheels). Just using colourful paper, a straw (you can use a pencil) and a straight pin (or split pin), the students had fun, learned about wind and were delighted with their whirling windmills. So, here are some instructions on how to make them - a great little project while at home!... (from https://www.auntannie.com/FridayFun/Pinwheel/) Easy Pinwheel to make Just in time for breezy winter days, make this colourful paper pinwheel with nothing more than paper, a pencil and a straight pin. Children of all ages will be delighted with this whirling windmill. Make several as party decorations or favours! Heres what you need: Computer paper Pencil with eraser, unsharpened Straight pin with ball top Optional: Small bead, glue Scissors Ruler Pencil This project is rated EASY to do. Read all of the steps before starting. Step 1: Project Preparation Gather the materials needed for making a pinwheel. If you are doing this project with a group of children, pre-cut the 15 cm paper squares. Step 2: Cut Square Cut a 15 cm square of paper Tip: - Two-sided pinwheels can be made by gluing two printed squares back-to-back, or by printing / drawing on both sides of heavier paper. Step 3: Cut Use the pencil and ruler to draw two diagonal lines, corner-to-corner, that cross at the squares centre. Mark the centre point and mark a point about 7 cm from each corner on the diagonal line. Cut on the diagonal line from each corner up to the marked point. Erase pencil marks, except for the centre point. (see images below) Step 4: Assemble Using the straight pin, punch a hole in the centre and at every other point (about cm from the tip.) Poke the pin through one of the point holes and curl the point toward the centre. Dont fold! Curl each pierced point, in turn, toward the centre and poke the pin through the holes. Push the pin through the centre hole of the pinwheel. Holding the pencil on a flat surface with one hand, push the pin into the side of the eraser. Step 5: Finish You now have a pinwheel! Hold the pinwheel in your hand and swish it around. The pinwheel should rotate on the pin. Take the pinwheel outside on a breezy day and see it whirl like crazy! Tip: - If your pinwheel doesnt rotate freely, it is probably rubbing against the pencil. You can fix this problem by inserting the pin into the eraser at a slight upward angle, or by slipping a small bead onto the pin before inserting it into the eraser. Thats it! Your pinwheel is done! Enjoy!

21.01.2022 Bango Wind Farm has recently completed pouring concrete at the first wind turbine foundation. An important milestone for the project, the pour is the culmination of a team effort over the last few months to excavate the foundation, place and fix over 67 tonnes of steel reinforcement and hold down bolts and finally pour approximately 550 cubic meters (around 85 loads for a concrete truck) using two concrete pumps. The concrete must be placed in a continuous pour to ensure there are no joints, meaning a big effort from the team to complete the work in one day. The project is now targeting two to three foundation concrete pours each week.

20.01.2022 Over Size / Over Mass Vehicles - Road User Safety Information Over size / over mass (OSOM) vehicles are usually slower moving, occupy more of the road (sometimes more than one lane) and take much longer to stop. If you see a LONG VEHICLE sign, the vehicle ahead is longer than normal vehicles. If you see an OVERSIZE sign, the vehicle ahead is wider, longer and/or higher than normal vehicles.... When approaching an on-coming oversize vehicle you should: Be careful and reduce speed Keep to the left of the centre line Be prepared to move to the left side of the road if necessary. Oversize vehicles may sometimes travel down the centre of a bridge and can occupy more than one lane on the bridge. This may not allow enough room for another vehicle to fit on the bridge at same time. In these cases, be prepared to stop and wait for the oversize vehicle to exit the bridge. Do not attempt to cross a bridge occupied by an oversize vehicle as these vehicles are unable to reverse back. You should use extreme care when overtaking an oversize vehicle. If you see portable warning triangles placed on the road this can indicate a heavy vehicle has broken down. Slow down and drive carefully when you see triangles on the road. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//safety-rules/road-rules/large- Driving around oversize / over mass vehicles: Expect these very large vehicles to stay on the bitumen when you overtake. When approaching an oncoming oversize vehicle on narrow roads slow down, pull on to the shoulder of the road and stop (if necessary). This may avoid unnecessary windscreen damage as well. When overtaking be aware of roadside conditions e.g. soft shoulders, guideposts and wildlife. See more

15.01.2022 Bush fires are more likely to spread and cause damage on days when the weather is very hot, dry and windy. These are usually on very high to extreme fire days. To reduce the risk of fires damaging or destroying life, property and the environment the NSW RFS Commissioner may declare a Total Fire Ban (TOBAN). In a Total Fire Ban no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended. This includes incinerators and barbecues (BBQ) which burn solid fuel, e.g. wood, charcoal or heat beads. No general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting can be done in the open. 02.01.2022 The NACELLE of a wind turbine houses the drive train and other tower-top components. It sits on a stub tower containing the large yaw bearings and slip rings which are fitted to prevent the cable twisting when the windmill yaws. The yaw bearing allows the nacelle to rotate as the wind direction changes. It holds the components that transform the wind's kinetic energy into mechanical energy to turn a generator that produces electricity. These components are usually hub, roto...r, gearbox, generator, inverters, hydraulics, and bearings. The Bango Wind Farm turbines include real-time condition monitoring systems which are also housed in the nacelle. Once the nacelle has the interior components are assembled and the internal wiring is completed, the nacelle is ready to be lifted to the top of the tower using specialist lifting equipment The nacelle must be accessible for maintenance and repair work, with access usually via a lift and ladders inside the tower.
