22.01.2022 I learnt this over many, many years. My grief at losing everything that made me a worthy 23 year old with stars in her eyes and in her wake consumed my every waking moment... until there were spaces... relieving gaps of opportunity... Using these I began to shape a new world, a new identity. The stars reappeared when ‘Gratitude’ made her curtain call.
22.01.2022 Cohosted an online party along with CEO Caroline Bowditch for Arts Access Vic and the Melbourne International Film Festival. Held in honour of the star of the film Maddie the Model it was a riotous dance off and showcase of some of our talented artists. Put this ol’ club wig on and channeled that energy once more Still coming down hours after, fun! 21.01.2022 Late afternoon/evening wander with old friend @birgitsiegel. Such a lovely wander around the neighbourhood of which these pics capture a small part. Said it before, say it again, I live in the best Iso location imaginable. @elwoodstkilda #elwoodcanal #isoisoiso #isowander #sociallydistant #friends #catchup #longtimesince #gelati #12000steps #sunset #friendlypeople #smilingeyes
19.01.2022 My friend John Hinton is riotously talented and this latest instalment in his Ensonglopedia series is particularly appropriate for a page about brain injury. You are what you eat after all...
18.01.2022 Today is brought to you by a lone kayaker in the midst of the sunstream. The pic was taken from the rocks lining the sea that were placed where @shakurnana and I pulled up. Not too far from Elwood, we both needed a break from what has been a work-filled day. In danger of overwhelm, I must come up with a strategy. Now I’m finally being paid properly for what I do, the pressure I am feeling is disabling. Funny that. #selfimposed #pressure #disabling #somanyprojects #overwhelm #selfflagellation #nofun #covid #boomtime #shouldbe #lovingit #perfectionist
16.01.2022 View from one walkway to the next over the Elwood Canal inlet looking out to the bay. Went to buy a loaf and Spotto from @elwoodsourdough_ at 8am. Continued to the ocean to check it out but oncoming rain was starting and at 8 degrees, it is cooooold. Glad to get this pic though. Hosting an online party for Maddie The Model later. It’s gonna be fun! @elwoodstkilda #elwood #elwoodcanal #bay #sea #cold #winter #colour #bikeride #morningloaf #spotto
16.01.2022 Springing into spring indeed. Picturesque and warm day for a ride to Brighton where we watched strange creatures with obviously operational heating systems jump into the bay (??), consulted with a local warbler, marvelled at the sparkles on the water and tried to fit a landscape shot into the standard Instagram portrait... the gull won out against the city skyline. Certainly live within the loveliest 5km range. Iso Iso Iso. Will it ever end? @royalbrightonyachtclub #brightonjetty #kids #nosenseofcold #impressive #magpie #consult #sparkly #seagull

15.01.2022 I am pleased to announce I received one of these scholarships from Rare Birds. In order to receive mentoring from one of their high calibre cache I was also successful with a City of Port Phillip Thrive grant so the scholarship is an added bonus! Onwards for By Accident I go...

11.01.2022 Getting our Iso walk in at the day’s end, the canal greeting us at the start and faring us well on the way home. The pic of my foot Earthing in the sand is a harbinger of spring. There were even people in the water! These times have brought us all in touch with our environs and how wonderful is that? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Elwood really is a special place, especially at sunset. @elwoodstkilda #elwoodcanal #naturalwaterway #tidal #earthing #sand #oldnailpolish #elementalforces #wind #sea #isowalks #intouch #nature #sunset #reflections #springcometh
10.01.2022 Wow. This seems like fantasy but TBI is mentioned!
10.01.2022 This week another series of By Accident began. Sponsored by Victorian brain injury peer support group ‘Brain Injury Matters’, there are 5 more series to go. Get in touch if you are injured and interested in taking part with no outgoing cost. I developed By Accident motivated by the wide range of tips I have researched and used successfully during my 21 year ongoing recovery from severe brain injury as a consequence of being hit by a car. During the course I recognise each o...f the participants as an authority of their own experience. With the knowledge that we are the ultimate professionals at dealing with our own realities, the strategies and tools shared benefit all present. Covid Time has shifted the course online but there is light at the end of this long separation. Soon we will all be able to be in the same room together again. I look forward to hearing from you! @braininjurymatters @braininjurysa #training #authoritiesofownexperience #braininjury #traumaticbraininjury #acquiredbraininjury #stroke #survivor #contact #sponsoreddelivery See more
10.01.2022 How do you tell someone’s expression these days? I’m experiencing such removal. As someone in tune with those around me, someone who loves to see people smile... As well as the good containment they offer, masks are doing more than anonymise us, they de-humanise us. When I bought this mask to protect against the air borne pollution in Kathmandu in 2017, I never thought I’d be wearing it here in Australia. Oh well, at least my face is warm! The second and third photo show jus...t a couple of the mini maps our body supplies for remote treatment - the ear as a foetus or collection of limbs and the library of information on the hand. I also put a picture of my hand in the sunlight. You may be able to see the scarification on my second and third finger. This injury means I can not bend my second finger from either of the joints. What fascinated me is evidence of the effectiveness of these maps. You will see the second finger is responsible for the arm. A result of my head injury has been spasticity of my right bicep, lack of sensation, lack of fine motor control and overall weakness of the shoulder and arm. I asked Dr Lisa YanYan Liu and her eyes smiled as she told me from behind her mask, You learn very fast. 07.01.2022 In Adelaide at 11am on the 11th of the 11th 11 years ago I was informed cancer was no longer active in my body. I would have a remnant lump of scar tissue, about the size of a walnut, rolling around my chest cavity forever more but that was it. Here is my favourite photo from later in the chemo ride and another right at the start with hair whilst being infused the second time as an inpatient. Cancer sucks but dare I say Chemotherapy sucks more. Totally screwing with my cogni...tion, I was wrenched back neurologically to about 3 years after my brain injury and had to repair all over again. It didn’t release me til 5 years after and I tell you, the moment the chemotherapy departed my body is etched in my mind as it was so palpable. No, I will never forget. Onwards eternally! #cancer #chemotherapy #cancersucks #cancerawareness #cancersurvivor #chemosurvivor #11yearson #fightingfitnow See more
06.01.2022 Mask goals in my neighbourhood. She was asked if she is going out with Spiderman (who is often seen in the area too) but the answer was that it was unrequited love! The second pic shows the result of all the wind that met us on the ride back from Brighton today. 04.01.2022 And they said it would never be done again. 21 years later I start relearning how to skate. There’s a reason a video doesn’t accompany this post and that is b...ecause my Physio led me while I hung on to her shoulders. There was no one else to hold the phone. My pride takes a breath of relief... I heard that rollerblading comes second only to skydiving for intensity of cognitive repatterning. I have my work (and bruises) cut out for me... bring it!! Thanks to @tacvictoria for supporting this way out desire. The new way the organisation works constantly surprises and excites me. 02.01.2022 Walking back home along the creek from food shopping in Ormond Rd, Elwood. Covid has changed many habits in wonderful ways and staying local is one of these. Mind you, without a car I have always been wont to act this way. I just wish we could walk freely breathing in the air. Gratitude for the mercies though. @elwoodorganicelwood @theleafstore #elwoodcreek #elwood #weeklyshop #itsalovelyday #sunshine #warmth #springonitsway #kidsriding #peoplewalking #dogsleading #covid
02.01.2022 My latest little friend Henri will be staying with me whilst his ma is off being fabulous in Berlin for 3-6 months. Here he is looking over his thoroughly netted off domain of my back patio. (Thanks for your sublime workmanship Chris) Henri here is sporting his new harness that will be attached to a lead in the coming days/weeks so he can smell all the goodness he is spying over the fence. 01.01.2022 A wonderful day starting at the first mixed cohort gathering (first and second) of the Victorian Independent Producers Initiative via Theatre Network Australia (you will see there were 4 seperate meeting spaces each peopled according to the Covid Safe guidelines) followed by the purchase of my very first piece of art by Larissa Macfarlane and then a coffee with my good ‘ol mate (17 years and counting) Heidi Everett. I am blessed to be a part of this sector and I am grateful at every instance. @theatrenetworkaustralia @macfarlanelarissa @heidi_everett_creative #victorianindependentproducersinitiative #dirtydozen #feministart #oldmate #paralleltracks
01.01.2022 Mid morning ride to avoid the oncoming heat of the day. Along the foreshore to Port Melbourne where we sipped and supped before playing a couple of games of pool. Lovely way to start Saturday. Here’s to yours! @generationsportmelbourne #sittingonthedockofthebay #hearty #brunch #soylatte #newbike #landspeedrecord #convivial #lunchtimepool
