04.01.2022 Our current strategy in quarantining infected individuals within our CBD or any urban setting for that matter, is us playing Russian Roulette in my opinion. We need to not lose sight of the fact that we are at war with an enemy that’s up to 100x smaller than the smallest bacteria. Quarantine facilities should ideally not be located in the beating heart of any metropolis. SARS-CoV-2 virus is airborne and can move easily through shared ventilation systems in high rise buildings... if they do not have virus grade air filtration filters installed. The virus can remain active on various surfaces for varying periods, up to days in some instances as we already know. Frontline personnel servicing these quarantining facilities (city hotels I believe) and those frequenting these centres daily for work all run a high risk of infection - the virus can then rapidly spread through the metro via unaware infected frontline personnel leaving quarantining facilities as an example - it’s really a matter of when and not if. There is a lesson to be taken from New Zealand, COVID free for 100+ days, and suddenly, lockdown again. Engaging our enemy in our CBD is not an option - a remotely located battlefield is where the fight needs to happen - As most infected persons are returning Aussies, quarantine and treatment in a remote location to contain & terminate this enemy makes tactical sense. Quarantining facilities should be relocated to remote locations within our vast state. All servicing personnel should be FIFO, with stricter testing protocols similar to what our big mining companies are implementing currently. Frontline quarantine servicing personnel should be adequately remunerated in consideration of the dangerous nature of their work and being away from loved ones for extended periods in remote locations. We have several abandoned old gold-rush towns in WA as an example that potentially can be renovated, outfitted and utilised for the fight at hand. Let’s use our vast unforgiving outback to our advantage. There will be economic benefits to the local economy - job creation in construction - our struggling airlines can be contracted to fly in, fly out, and many more. You guys have the smarts and the experts to make this happen sooner rather than later. Let’s take an Art of War approach instead. God Speed.
