25.01.2022 A nice little 1960s Honda C92 frame I have just repaired and painted.

25.01.2022 Buick harness on the board, couple of days later harness and dash fitted in the car

24.01.2022 Well guys and gals our little movie/documentary we made a year or so ago is up on You Tube. It has been shortened to just under an hour.......so if you have an hour to spare it may or may not be worth a watch and best of all it stars one of my Panthers and a few guys I know and some of you may know sharing their stories about mental health issues they have faced. https://www.youtube.com/watch

23.01.2022 A couple of days spent making a new harness for an FB Holden. Modified and braided to customers request. Damn I like that yellow and white pattern I put into the braid. It should match the yellow and white car very nicely

23.01.2022 life is crazy at the moment, so much to do not enough hours so apologies for not posting much lately. Just restored an HJ Monaro fuel tank. Customer hadn't used the car for a couple of years so the fuel had evaporated away and was blocking fuel system. Stale petrol is the worst smell...........anyway a few days in the caustic bath sorted it out, then remove remnants of old paint and respray it to original spec..............like new

23.01.2022 Well a day or so later rear axle is completed, leaf springs finished and put together and all fitted into the nice powder coated chassis. Work continues at Bygone Spares and restorations. I have been working in self isolation for years!!!

22.01.2022 Todays mystery object....what is this

22.01.2022 stitched up 4 metres of black wing piping for the Buicks rear guards. Damn it finishes them off nicely i think. Its all in the detail

20.01.2022 A little repair job on the Buick wiper switch. Plastic had cracked so that the knob didnt actually turn the switch. As they are vacuum operated wipers they need as much hels as they can get. So a slot in the plastic with a little bit of steel in slot, slot in switch, brass ring around the plastic to retain it all, totally invisible and now it works as it should

20.01.2022 Last Weekend was the Panther Owners Club, national rally, but due to Covid 19 it became an online international rally, rather than the usual camping rally that is held in the UK. We have a concourse winner...........yes my freshly restored 1936 Panther won the heavyweight title for the best restored Panther. So here it is in all its shiny glory

20.01.2022 Latest work was straightening out and repairing this front panel off an EJ ute. Had to split it into 4 pieces (loads of spotwelds to drill out) repair each and then weld back together.........Looks a damned sight better now. Still some minor filling to do, then it will be like new.

19.01.2022 Well that is a tedious job out of the way. Just received the brass replica Lucas ring terminals I make back from being tin plated. The plater had strung them individually on copper wire, must have taken him ages, so I had to get them all off, then bend the tangs ready for fitting on future wiring harnesses. Job done feels better

19.01.2022 Having to spend the week trying to catch up on the ever increasing backlog of wiring harnesses I have to make. Last week was this Jaguar S type harness which has a strange mix of harness tape and braid on it, This week has been a 1926 Austin 7 and a harness for the Straight 8 Buick

19.01.2022 I was asked if I could braid some modern HT leads. Never braided any before, but lets have a go. Yep with a bit of ingenuity i think they have turned out nicely............so if anyone needs any doing I can. Going on a Hot Rod over East

19.01.2022 This weeks mission was to get the TR4 bodyshell finished, engine and gearbox together, chassis finished, then bolt the whole lot together...............so how did I go. Well body shell is painted, chassis has brakelines, rear shocks and wheels fitted. Engine is back from rebuilders, gearbox has new overdrive harness fitted and is ready to go..........new clutch ready to fit, but guess what it doesnt fit...its the wrong clutch............we have a Triumph TR4, but it has a TR4A flywheel fitted........so it needs a TR4A clutch. Bugga

18.01.2022 amongst a myriad of little jobs this week., I have been trying to get the bonnets mounted and repaired on the little 1929 OHC Morris. Also fitted the fabric coupling to drive shaft.........vintage style uni joint

18.01.2022 Fabricating a replica chainguard for my 1936 Panther M100 motorcycle today. It looks like it should and as a bonus it seems to fit. Drill holes next a job for another day.

17.01.2022 Still relevant....if you need a hand...reach out...if you can give a hand reach in. You Tube link attached.

17.01.2022 Well that is my 1936 Panther M100resto just about complete. Got the exhausts back and fitted them, Had the exhaust rings plated as well, not sure that was the right thing to do, but no doubt it will burn off in next to no time. Still waiting on brake light switch from UK. So at last i tried to start her up. I would like to say it started first kick....it didnt....very little compression.. Found I had the exhaust valve too tight so adjusted that, then no fuel to carburettor. F...ound the new taps I bought were not drilled through the seals. So I solved that problem, also have fuel leaking round base of carb body, but that can wait for another day. Once I had fuel flowing and compression it did start after 4 or 5 kicks. Shocked to say the least. It ran for about 30 secs. It will need some fine tuning now. Watch this space for a video soon. Its come a long way from what I started with. So much has been hand made on it. See more

17.01.2022 An unusual one today. Making up a radio to battery harness for a Landrover Series 2, ex military radio vehicle. Customer sent the best part of an original one to copy. Now its winging its way to back NZ to be fitted to a landie over there

17.01.2022 A 1947 Rover 10 is not a big car by any stretch of imagination. This is the wiring harness that goes in it. Its huge, probably one of the biggest and longest I make. Very difficult to braid due to the lengths involved. Next will be to try and fit the armoured conduit that was originally fitted on this.

17.01.2022 The trials and tribulations of Landrover bulkhead repairs. This one is off a Series 2. Right hand leg has totally rusted away. At some point in its life its had extra holes cut into it, thin tin pop rivetted over rusted area from both sides and a myriad of extra holes drilled, or to be more accurate punched though. So 3 days in the drivers side is just about sorted. Still have to fabricate a new foot for the chassis mount and make up captive nut cages. Britpart footwells wer...e supplied...........Like all aftermarket panels they are inaccurate to say the least. A list of problems, the 2 angled corners are 15 mm too short so have to be built up. No strengthening plates. no hole for dipswitch. No captive nuts and cages. no strengthening swage lines in heel board, and the top edge is folded and spot welded incorrectly so you dont have the distinctive turned up edge.............almost sorted now though See more

16.01.2022 Well thats the Landrover Series 2 FFW military wireless vehicle harness completed. Those heavy bullets look almost brand new.......no I just gave them a gentle bead blasting and resoldered them back on. It seems the original heavy cables in this harness were originally light blue. At least its marked that way on the wiring diagram and under the braid it looks like they might have been originally. The yellow on the ends is original. Looks like they may have had something printed originally, but ineligible now.

16.01.2022 I spent 3 or 4 days designing and copying an original harness for a 1983 HJ45 Landcruiser. I now know why I normally have a cut off date of 1980. One of the pics below shows one part of the main harness. It is a total of about 16 cables with 4 connections, which are all buried inside the main harness. There are a total of 30 of these multi cable connections buried in the main harness alone. Most have 4 to 5 cables coming off each. It has taken me a full day, just to get this ...far. I wish I had never started it. On another note if any of you are thinking of ordering a harness from me do it soon. So far one of my main suppliers in UK has closed down due to Covid 19. With the exchange rate plummeting I will have to increase prices as of end of April. I hope everyone is staying safe! As I work in total isolation and providing I can get stock I am continuing to work and make harnesses See more

16.01.2022 Busy week, degreasing, derusting, bead blasting and painting this myriad of Landrover parts, almost as good as new now!

15.01.2022 1949 Chevrolet Fleetline harness that I am making. I am really liking the colour braid on this. Copied pretty closely from the original

14.01.2022 a disgusting Morris minor petrol tank was delivered full of stale petrol sludge, covered in rust and flaking off underseal. Smelt awful. A day in the caustic soda bath, pressure wash and a coat of etch primer. It looks new again

14.01.2022 Holden EH ute chassis rail repairs this week

12.01.2022 I have been bringing some seat frames back to life this week. Look a lot better than they did to start with. The potato sack was from an earlier resto of the seats. Dates to late 60s from the phone number. Manjimup way, 30c refund on return of bag, wonder if its still valid.

12.01.2022 Landrover series 2 Military wireless vehicle from about 1960. Just spent the last week on and off developing the plans for the wiring harness for one of these very rare beasts. This one will be off to a customer in NZ when its completed. It has some pretty heavy cables, runs 24v to power all the radio equipment. It has been a very interesting exercise

12.01.2022 I have been working on the Buick this week. Black is my least favoutite colour to spray, especially when its on a car as big as this. I have to say it has come up so well. I am very pleased. Difficult to photograph very shiny black.....but you get the idea. Dash and instrument panels also painted in a bronze colour........not so shiny, but that is deliberate and original

12.01.2022 Fair bit of braiding today. First ones are for a hot rod, second pic if for a 1949 Single Spinner Ford. Looks very snake like I think. It has to be the earliest harness I have seen that uses Harness tape for some of the harness

12.01.2022 Another job on the bench this week. I am building a replica arrow body for a 1929 OHC Morris Minor. All we have to go on are some photos. So this week I have managed to modify the original front mudguards to match the Arrow bodied cars. Original 29 minors had running boards the Arrow bodied cars didnt and had pointed tips to the guards. This is the work I really enjoy doing. Beaded edges are good fun to make as well

11.01.2022 my latest acqistion. 1995 Mercedes C200 Sport. One genuine lady owner from new. Drove it shops and church. She is in her 80s. Still has red triangle in boot lid, first aid kit in parcel shelf, all original owners manuals. 200,000kms. Never been restored or repainted. Original factory 10 stack CD player in the boot, everything works as well

11.01.2022 Well that was a crazy week, getting the Buick to a state where the upholsterer can do his stuff. Would have liked to get door windows in as well but still waiting on parts ex USA. Sorting all the door mechanisms was a fun job, and all the broken damaged bits that will need replacing/repairing. Then searching for the boot handle.............it was never there. The doors were not too difficult to hang and are pretty straight for an immediate post war car. I think once it has the final polish and all the trim it will be an impressive vehicle on the road

10.01.2022 A quiz for you all this morning. Has anyone seen one of these before? I would like to know what its original use was? But to add to that what do i use it for, a tool that I use most weeks???

10.01.2022 I also finished off the boot lid this week, wasnt happy with the finish, so stripped it back and repainted it. Now i am happy...no charge to customer.. I have to be happy with the finished product

09.01.2022 Series 1 Landrover SU fuel pump reconditioning today. Bit grubby but bead blasting sorted that out......hairline cracks through central plate. Not good the whole thing flexed in my hands. Points mounting plate cracked, that is common, pivot pin for points way too short, only one end was held. Never seen that one before, and the bakelite end cap chipped and cracked....that is usual. Luckily I have heaps of spares and can replace all the damaged bits. Watch this space for the finished product. Originally made in july 57

09.01.2022 back onto the EJ ute for a couple of days this week. Some pretty major accident damage to the lower LH front door pillar. I still cant see how it happened, but it did. Poorly fixed before, sorted properly now. Then some rust repairs round the corner of the windscreen frame and edges of bulkhead. All the usual places for the EH/EJ range. Next will be some very tricky repairs to the plenum chamber.

09.01.2022 Another little job that I have to do a couple of times a year is hand punch new ring terminals for the wiring harnesss that I make. They are exact copies of the original Lucas ones that were used originally. Hand stamped out of brass sheet. Then sent off to be tin plated, then back to me to bend the tangs up. This is the stage of punching the correct size holes into them. I make 28 different sizes and styles

09.01.2022 well I knew it would be and it was a very difficult job. i wasn't sure whether to work from the inside of the car with it upside down or work from the windscreen area down. I chose the latter and lucky that I did as there was a heap of hidden rust that i wouldn't have got to from below. EJ ute plenum chamber repairs. A big job. Two panels to drill out to get at rusted area. then it was impossible to get a grinder in to cut rust out, so had to use my dremel with a flexible drive, then almost impossible to get in and weld up............I got there. So much work for a part that nobody ever sees. At least the rain wont get into the cab now

08.01.2022 Another little Landrover job completed. This time a series 1 hornpush/dipswitch assembly. New wiring to go down tube all connected up and all tested. Working again. Bakelite polished and cracked mounting post repaired. Fuel Pump fixed for it as well, Rock hard diaphragm and gummed up one way valve. Wasnt going to work like that...It does now

08.01.2022 this weeks mission has been fabricating from scratch a new spare wheel well floor for a Holden EJ ute that I am slowly restoring for a customer. I think its a success. A bit of a mission trying to get it to fit round the petrol tank and the correct curve for the wheel to fit around. It took some panel beating to get it right

07.01.2022 so this weeks mission is to start reassembling the Triumph TR4 chassis. Back axle is just about complete, next will be the leaf springs and getting it all bolted to the chassis itself

06.01.2022 My 1936 Panther project is getting there. Saddle has been reupholstered, exhaust fitted, off next week to have new down pipes bent up for it. Exhausting work haha

03.01.2022 My new toy. Picked it up from Boyup Brook yesterday and drove it 400kms home. Needs a little loving. Only 2000 of them built originally. Lots of memories of a very special friend...........miss you Michael

02.01.2022 a little bit of work on the 1946 Buick this week. polishing and assembling dash. Making up new sub harnesses for the dash and spraying the rear guards. Getting there. The dash is very art deco

01.01.2022 Some paint on the underside of the TR4 last week. Looks damned good. Once we get the engine back from the builders we will be able to fit it into the chassis and get the body back onto it
