21.01.2022 On Sunday our next stage Learn To Sail juniors (LTR) took turns trying a Laser. This is Elliot’s first time in a Standard Laser. Great Job. #laser #lasersailing #learntosail

21.01.2022 Thanks to DeckHardware for posting these great photos of today’s racing on Pittwater. Huge turnout at our humble club and we we’re excited to see many keen and eager sailors getting after it. Well done to all! Now onto Day 2

19.01.2022 Winter madness? NO. Three cheers and throw your hats in the air for the hardy souls venturing forth in the rain on Pittwater. See report below. Your correspondent has been in a similar situation in Europe on the west coast of France. The difference however is that we have had three or four days of Summer sunshine to break up the grey skies. Whilst the European news is full of emergency treatment in hospitals for the heatwave that is happening over there, I seemed to have pick...Continue reading

18.01.2022 Well sailed all the winners at the Manly Juniors NSW States at BYRA at the weekend, particularly Caity Bastion the Rookies Winner! https://www.facebook.com/SueElliottSydney

17.01.2022 A little less wind than forecast today from the SE but three races were completed. Let us hope the forecast for tomorrow is more accurate.

17.01.2022 60 years ago this summer (1957) Vee-Jays rigging and launching at BYRA. #sailing #pittwater #learntosail #oldphotos #history #vj #BYRA

17.01.2022 Tricky conditions this afternoon for our sailors and I note it was great to see BYRA juniors out in Flying 11s again.

17.01.2022 What to say? Magical BYRA/Pittwater #sunset #sailing #Pittwatter Sailingclub #bayview #BYRA

17.01.2022 Good to see a solid number of #Lasers out on Sunday. We have Josh riding the line between exhilaration and a cold swim and Brendan showing some nice balance

16.01.2022 A great Birthday gathering on the deck at BYRA with pre-prandials and a BBQ followed an extraordinary fleet of 10 boats in the Keelboat Round Lion Island Race on Sunday. Peter and Alex Melleuish were first across the line in a very fast time, followed by John Black and a motley crew of BYRA members. Third was one of the smallest boats of the fleet who threw up a multi-coloured cloth on the downwind leg driven by Rob & Mal. Will try and post some photos later.

15.01.2022 Optimist States last weekend. BYRA was represented by 7 sailors in the Green Fleet. Our more experienced Learn To Race group all feel that they have outgrown to Optimists so didn’t attend. Considering none of the kids had any racing experience it was great to see them holding their own in quite challenging conditions with breeze well ver 15kn both days. Well done to all the sailors

15.01.2022 Learn to sail is still on this Sunday 3rd November even with the 1st round of the Manly Juniors State Titles being conducted at the same time. So please parents of kids enrolled in LTS come on down and don't be afraid to lend a hand if you can. There will be plenty of excitement as the states best MJ sailors will all be sharing the grass setup area with the LTS kids. This means plenty of boats for the kids to check out and maybe be inspired to become the next champions ? We look forward to seeing you all there!

14.01.2022 With only a few more sleeps to go. We wish all the sailors coming this weekend to the club for Rnd 1 of the Manly Juniors’s the best of luck and may the wind be on your side ! Great work Niall Powers !

14.01.2022 One race completed by noon, race two is being held. Good winds for the Manly Juniors States at @BYRAsailingclub #manlyjuniorstates Manly Junior Sailing #PittwaterSailing

13.01.2022 First Sunday of the Sailing Season. - https://mailchi.mp/707d3/first-sunday-of-the-sailing-season

13.01.2022 With winds around 7knts the NSW NS14 State Championship saw 43 entrants on a course north of Scotland Island. Winner of the first race was A Chittenden & S Radford . The second race started shortly after the finish of the first.

13.01.2022 BYRA Winter Series Round 1 Our first Winter Sailing Session for 2019 we had a slightly overcast day with a very light westerly blowing 3-5 knots swinging to a North Westerly of 1-3 knots and back and forth. In total we had 11 boats turn up, but only 10 sailed on the day (5 Adult and 10 Junior Sailors). Two races where completed just South of Scotland Island. We had three new boats joining us today, so for those new people welcome. ... Brad Stephenson in his MG14, Alex Melleuish one of the Learn to Sail Juniors that graduated this summer is his Flying 11 Predator Joshua Aitken stepping out of his Manly Junior into his new Flying 11 Salty. During the races a couple of lead boats pulled away in the conditions, but the juniors all finished in very close proximity of each other giving some close racing. Thank you to George Sadlik and Peter Melleuish for helping out on the support RIB today and having to do multiple mark changes in the changing conditions. It was also encouraging to have a RPAYC Etchell vary its course towards BYRA 1 during their race to congratulate BYRA in have a good winter fleet going. 11.01.2022 Manly Junior State Championships Round 1 at BYRA, November 2 and 3 Welcome to all Manly Junior Sailors and entourage. Most have had their Bacon & Egg Roll. Duly fortified they are making their way to the course north of Scotland Island for the first of two races today and two tomorrow. Winds are forecast to be brisk. Still a fair bit of smoke haze about.

11.01.2022 Next Sunday is the start of part 2 of the seson2019-2020 for the Junior fleets. At 8.30 Sunday we will be welcoming those new to Learn to Sail on Sunday mornings and others will be progressing through the modules on the way to their full ticket. 10.01.2022 Happy Birthday BYRA - Lion Island Commemorative Race this Sunday 12 o clock BBQ after the Race

10.01.2022 Round 3 of BYRA Winter Series is Sunday August 5th. Why not warm up by doing RPA's Ice Breaker This Sunday?

10.01.2022 All the kids were fantastic last week; however, I had to post this footage. Will, 7 years old and probably only 40kg having a fist time go sailing a Laser Standard in 5-7 Knts. He wasn’t supposed to control the boat, it was just a bit of fun for some of the older sailors, (by older we mean 11 and 12). He gets overpowered (naturally), big heel, big weather helm, boat rounds up and he’s going for a swim;right? #lasersailing #learntosail #BYRA #sailing #pittwatersailing #learningtosail #bayview #sydney

10.01.2022 Eight young BYRA sailors are participating in the NSW Optimist State Championships. A great opportunity to sail in a fleet and don't have to travel!! Royal Prince Alfred YC are running the champs . A great first day was day although the wind was higher enough to be near the cut off point. Sunday will be a Sunny day and a little less wind.

09.01.2022 We had a fantastic day for the juniors with 31 enrolments to the learn to sail program including a lot of new families. The morning went smoothly with a gentle breeze seeing all the kids getting on the water. The safety swim at the end of the 1st day is always a spectacle. Thank you to the army of help that was present today as the first day of a new season is always challenging. The new BYRA rib also had its first day of work, with the learn to sail coaching in the morn...ing followed by running support boat for the afternoon adventure sail where we had 16 sailors venture up Pittwater to Careel Bay then stopping at Sandy Point for a rest before the return sail to BYRA. The adventure sail saw a light breeze but a popular destination by all that attended. The club will be open on Friday afternoon for Junior Members to come down and hang around the club, sail, paddle etc.

09.01.2022 A wonderful view oy BYRA Bayview Yacht Racing Association Sailing Club... Thanks Ian for the great video!

05.01.2022 Don’t let this wet weather get you down and be thinking the club isn’t open. Tomorrow we carry on with the 2020 Learn to sail program and given the turn out from last week during the massive East Coast Low storm we endured, I hope we have a just as big a turn out of enthusiastic young sailors ready to hit the high seas in search of adventure... or theory if it’s too wooly out there

03.01.2022 Sailing in 25+ knots. A great ride on Pittwater

03.01.2022 A great weekend at BYRA last weekend with some of the junior sailors staying the night in the clubhouse and then hitting Pittwater early on Sunday for the 4th and last round of the BYRA winter series. It was a huge turnout with three NS14’s and MG14. A couple of lasers two O’Pen Bic’s and an F11. Special thanks to the Atkins and the other Dads that put this weekend together to make it the success it was. Enjoy some of the pics and video from today’s sailing.
