12.01.2022 KORFF WEALTH BBGC MENS CLUB CHAMPS Matchplay section of our 2020 CC in full swing with some ding dong matches, some whitewashes and even a forfeit thrown in.... Big shout out to the Course Crew who have prepared the course magnificently, to be, in what some say, the best condition ever. Greens running at 12 ish apparently, with anything downhill/downwind, fiendishly quick. Thank you Shaun and team. OPEN GRADE QF Conor Whitelock was up against hardened matchplayer Paul Clark in the first of the QF on Sat. They went hard at it and went down the 18th all square where Paul’s long approach meant a bogey and lost the match after Conor got up and down for par. Mat Crandell prevailed over Bjorn Peterson to win 2/1, with Bjorn shooting par on the front 9 to be right in it. Bjorn technically played up a grade as he was 1st qualifier in A RESERVE, only to man up and play in the OPEN GRADE. Harvey Remfrey and Shane Wilson had a tight match which went extra holes, only for Harvey to prevail on the 20th. Mark Reedman v David Calvert match had the punters salivating, with nothing in it, if Sportsbet had posted odds. Mark won 2/1. OPEN GRADE SF Conor W went straight through to next Sat Final, courtesy of a forfeit. Mat Crandell and Harvey Remfrey had a close match with Mat in front for most of the day, only for Harvey to fight back late and get it back to all square after 15. Still all square going down 18, but Harvey found some trouble and Mat won 1 up. A tantalising 36 hole Final looms with young tyro Conor up against 14 time winner of the BBGC CC Mat Crandell. Conor will be looking for redemption, following his 2019 stroke play loss to Mat. A RESERVE GRADE QF Good mates Campbell Korff (Sponsor) and David Chegwyn led off in the spiciest of the QFs, with nothing in it all morning. They headed down 18 with Cam 1 up, when Cheggie ran into some trouble off the tee, handing it to Cam 2 up. Gary Sanderson v Dave Lambert looked close on paper, but Sando was too strong to win 6/5. The inter-generational match, of the wily Steve Parker v young Kane Whitelock, shaped as a good match and it delivered. Steve Parker was well in command after getting to 4 up with 5 to play, but Kane’s wedge game saved him 4 holes in a row to get back to square after 18, with Kane prevailing on the 19th hole. I put a call in to Steve Parker today - RUOK? He is fine. Mark Paterson v Andy Laidlaw shaped as a close match as well, but Andy was a bit off his game and Mark won 3/2. A RESERVE SF Cam Korff up against Gary Sando this morning, with Cam getting it to 3 up on the back 9, but Sando chased him down to win on the 18th. Sando must have ice running through these veins to take down the major sponsor! Young Kane Whitelock bested Mark Paterson 4/3 to set up another inter-generational match against the 60 something Sando in next Saturday’s 27 hole Final. B GRADE SF Top qualifier John Hertzberg easily won his first 2 matches 6/5 to now face Peter Campbell in the Final, who also won both his matches convincingly. C GRADE SF Top 2 qualifiers Kahliff Glass and Yens Krause play off next Sat after both recorded solid wins in the QF and SF. My apologies to B and C Grade match reports being a little light on for content, but no spicy details made it on to my desk. All the best to all players for next weeks Finals.
