24.01.2022 After a year away I am back in the Byron region and now the rainy season seems to be over I am available for painting jobs again. Send me a message if you want to get some painting done. Cheers

19.01.2022 having a break from byron shire while corona is happening. check this space in sept oct. good luck and best wishes. In these corona times painting is one thing that seems pretty safe - easy to keep social distance etc - so if you are thinking of doing some painting now is still a good time to do it. pm me if interested.

17.01.2022 With a solar installation looming I decided to paint the roof of my sisters house to support the tin over the next 25 years plus that panels will be there (that’s the panel guarantee anyway). I was surprised what a difference it makes to the look of the house and shed. Painting a roof with highly reflective paint is also good environmentally as it reflects heat back into space and offsets the reduced reflection from polar ice caps as they melt.... Mostly rooves are sprayed but nervous about over spray on cars paths (or indeed the neighbours house!) I decided to use a roller and brush (after first sanding and treating any rust spots.) which worked out fine. Hard work, a job to do in winter when sun not so intense as the reflection off the roof magnifies the glare. A 4-5 day job on probably 150sqm roof depending on rust issue.

13.01.2022 Byron Painting titbits#3 More and more people in the Byron shire are choosing to use more natural paint products, especially for inside the house where the outgassing of traditional chemical paints can continue for year. Part of this has been driven by the existence of two natural eco paint supliers in the Byron Industrial Estate, with Eco Colour in Grevillia street (alongside Bunnings) and Painted Earth in Brigantine st. Eco paints are not quite the semi edible paints that p...eople dream of - often made from recycled engin oil which is not so palatable! - but they are heading towards zero in terms of smell and ongoing outgassing with plastics very rarely used. I used a two pack epaint for a cement floor in a food manufacturing factory that was a bit tricky. Using a two pack (where you mix the actual paint with a hardener) means there is a bit of time pressure as you never really know how long you have before the paint goes off. I ended up being able to do two coats everywhere and a third coat in the high traffic areas. Once it was done I was a bit miffed that when I visited after a week that there were dusty footprints everywhere! Somehow the painted surface just attracts dust. I spoke to guys at the shop and they sold me a can of a clear sealing coat that not only stopped the dusty footprints but also hardened and protected the paint. I have used quite a bit of the eco paints lately with excellent results. It is slightly more expensive than the premium, but ss it comes very thick and needs to be diluted a little, it probably ends of being very close in $/sqmetre. These paints do have mould inhibitors tho I cannot say how long these paints will last for. I like painting with this stuff as it does not smell, at all, and covers any marks very well. Feels better washing brushes too, tho rollers quite frankly hold way too much paint to be able to be cleaned in a proper manner and so these days I tend to throw roller sleeves away, figuring a use roller sleeve in landfill is a smaller enviro impact than producing 20-30 litres of painty water that ultimately gets down to the water table. 13.01.2022 Xmas holidays are pretty much done and it is time to get back to work, to start thinking about those jobs that need doing. I am available for big or small painting jobs from Jan 30. Book me now before I get too busy! See the references/reviews below

09.01.2022 Feeling a bit uninspired and don't know why? It might be as simple as being bored with the ambience of your home, your bedroom, your office. maybe all that is needed is a couple of coats of paint! Now with good quality eco paints you do not have to deal with paint smell for days, even weeks after painting. Painting a single room is fairly straightforward, best to do with the room empty but possible to work around furniture that is too hard to shift. Maybe your office needs a... freshen up - can do on the weekend at no extra charge. Painting is not the drama it used to be. Contact me for a free quote and advice. See more

02.01.2022 Byron Painting titbit #2 Another trap for people buying paint is they see the specials that are on offer and they buy them thinking to save money. While mostly this is a fair assumption, sometimes paint can be approaching its USED BY date, and can smell. I painted a friend's house with a 15litre container of paint that was discounted 30%, and a couple of months later it still smells, to those who still have an acute sense of smell, like horseshit.
