23.01.2022 We celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Byron Bay 7s with a fantastic lunch on Friday 18 October, featuring Wallabies George Smith and Lachie Turner alongside All Blacks Rico Gear and Caleb Ralph. The Master of Ceremonies was USA Eagles representative James Hilterbrand.

21.01.2022 ! ANNOUNCEMENT ! It is with massive regret, like many events around NSW and the world, that we are announcing that the 2020 Coopers Invitational Byron Bay Sevens Festival is cancelled this year. Due to massive COVID-19 restrictions on numbers; (only 500 in the venue at one time, including staff, players, referees, officials and marshals.) ... Not allowing public spectators to enter, and the huge overhaul of ensuring social distancing is adhered to around the ground, within the accommodations, and the whole weekend, it is something that we are unable to undertake. Our merry band of volunteers have been working tirelessly to create social distance procedures, 1.5m marking, and other restrictions in line with the NSW GOVT and local council guidelines. We are gutted to say that putting on this tournament is just not viable this year. We would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and support. It has been a tiring time for us all. Thank you all for your understanding. The 2021 Coopers Invitational Byron Bay Sevens Festival will be going ahead, and be bigger and better than ever. Stay tuned for the dates. 15.01.2022 We are still getting over the fact that we are not hosting our famous 7s competition in three weeks time. While we do that, we are also figuring out how we will fund the last part of the facilities upgrade at the Byron Recreation fields now all you lunatics are not coming to town to drink some ice Coopers with us for the second year straight. If you have been to our 7s at over the last 30 years you will know that we have VERY limited facilities as it relates to showers at toi...lets. That is going to change before next years event... as long as we can find the last bit of money we need. If you can spare anything to tip into the pot it will mean the world to us. Thanks and if we get this all completed its shower beers all round next October.

09.01.2022 COVID UPDATE FAQ to help you if either the Sevens Festival or your team is affected by restrictions in the coming months. With 62 days to go til 16-17 October, we remain optimistic we'll be able to proceed. ... We will be guided by government and local council advice as to whether we can host the event closer to the time. --------------- Q: If the event is cancelled will I get my deposit back? A: Yes, we will refund deposits if the event cannot go ahead. --------------- Q: If the borders are closed and we can't get there what happens? A: If government state border closures stop you from entering the state of NSW then we will refund your deposit. This call will need to be made a minimum of 14 days out from the event. --------------- Q: What if my area is in lock down and we can't leave to attend the event? Will we get a refund? A: Yes, if you cannot attend the event because of a government restriction we will refund you. --------------- Q: What if at this stage I think the risk is too high and the future too unknown and I want to remove my team from the competition? A: We understand how difficult these times are and the uncertainty of everything is difficult. If you would like to withdraw your team and get a refund of your deposit you can do so for free until 1st September 2021. This way we can offer your place to teams on the waitlist. --------------- Q: When is full payment of fees due? A: We have decided because of the current covid situation we will put back the date when full payment is required to 16th September 2021 - One month before the event is due to begin. --------------- We hope this information is helpful and answers some questions for you. In summary, at this stage the event is still going ahead. We will leave it as long as possible to make the call on the event happening and our decision will be guided by consultation with state government and local council advisors. Thank you and fingers crossed that the current outbreaks end soon so we can all enjoy Australia's favourite rugby 7s event.
