18.01.2022 At 3.15 this morning Fire Rescue NSW responded to an incident at The Figtree Restaurant at Ewingsdale, Byron Bay. FRNSW Brigades from Byron Bay, Bangalow, Brunswick and the surrounding RFS Brigades worked hard to prevent fire spreading to surrounding guest accomodation and houses. Due to the intensity of the blaze the iconic Figtree Restaurant could not be saved. The owner and operator Che Devlin must be praised for immediately evacuating guests from The Dairy, only 25 metr...es from the fire. The Figtree is a Byron Bay institution and one of Australia’s premier wedding locations. It’s a massive blow to the Devlin family and all our thoughts go out to Che and his impressive team, who have been busy organising today’s planned wedding in an alternative location. There were no casualties or injuries. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
