24.01.2022 Please see the following traffic advice from Byron Shire Council. Traffic delays are expected from Monday 12 October Wednesday 14 October in the Byron Bay town centre with further asphalting works scheduled for Stage 4 of the Byron Bay bypass. Asphalting crews will be working across the Shirley, Butler and Lawson Street intersection to continue in-filling work and levelling for construction of the central medians in Shirley and Butler Streets.... While there will be occasional lane changes in order to work on different sides of the road, 2-way traffic will be maintained at most times. There will also be occasions when traffic will be stopped to allow asphalt delivery and machinery movements which affect the travel lanes. The work is scheduled for 7am to 6pm each day. If it is possible, allow additional time to make your way through the town centre, particularly during school pick up and drop off times. Provisions will be made for cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the intersection during the works. The community is urged to avoid the area during peak times. If possible consider alternative options to driving during this time including riding a bike, walking or catching the solar train.

22.01.2022 Young Persons Plan For The Planet - 2020 Now into its fourth year, the Young Persons Plan For The Planet (YPPP) 2020 has begun. Students from Year 10; Tosh, Rex and Louis, Year 9; Marlene, Lolah and China, Year 8; Finley, Cinnamon, Jasmine, Zachary and Jackson started their YPPP journey yesterday afternoon.... A far cry from previous conferences hosted in Singapore and Mauritius, this years conference is being hosted virtually via Zoom and continues this afternoon with a conclusion on Thursday afternoon. Students are working in small groups in collaboration with students from schools in Vic, Qld, Mauritius, India and Singapore to develop strategies that they can own and implement which will meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). This afternoon, the collaboration will focus on developing solutions to meet the challenges presented by the SDG’s that can be applied globally. It has already been incredibly successful in witnessing students quickly develop a professional rapport with colleagues whom they have never previously met to work on a shared goal. More to follow. Mr S Galletly-Salisbury

12.01.2022 Heavy traffic delays expected - Byron town centre, Thursday 24 September *Update 22/09 Due to unforeseen circumstances, works for Friday 25 September have ...been cancelled. Major asphalting works are planned for next week in the Byron town centre, as part of the Byron Bay bypass project. Asphalting crews are booked to commence work at the Jonson, Butler and Lawson Street intersection on Thursday 24 September. Where possible, the works will be programmed to ensure two lanes are available for traffic through this intersection. However, it will be necessary at some times to reduce traffic to a single lane under stop/go control when working in Lawson Street, near the rail crossing, and when working on the roundabout circulating lanes. Provisions will be made for cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the intersection during the works. Where possible, please avoid the area during peak times, including school drop off and pick up time. If you must travel at this time, allow additional time to reach your destination. If possible consider alternative options to driving including riding a bike, walking or catching the solar train. Due to COVID-19 border restrictions, sourcing asphalt crews has been a challenge for infrastructure project teams across Northern NSW. We have been fortunate to secure a crew from Coffs Harbour for this work next week. This work is planned to be completed ahead of the NSW School holidays. We thank the community for their patience as we deliver these critical works for the Byron Bay bypass project.

02.01.2022 A huge congratulation goes out to Kiahn Ladkin and Zanthe Evans who have been nominated for Callback. Kiahn has been nominated for both her HSC Dance Core Performance and Major Studies Performance while Zanthe has been nominated for her HSC Dance Major Studies Performance. Callback is a showcase of exemplary performance by HSC Students. This achievement is heightened by the fact that both these girls are only in Year 11 and have been in an acceleration program. 2020 has been a hard year for all HSC students but the impact on practical subjects makes this achievement even sweeter. You both have made my cheeks sore from smiling all day and I thank you for being inspirational Indigenous role models. Best of luck with the final selection process.

02.01.2022 Byron Shire Council is recommending staff, students and parents allow additional time to and from school next Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September. Major asphalting works are planned at the Jonson, Shirley and Lawson Street intersection. This work will cause significant delays for those coming from the north of the town to our school. Please allow 20 minutes or more additional travel time if you are coming from the north on these days. On Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23, asphalting work will be carried out at Jonson and Browning Street. There may be additional traffic on Middleton Street at this time. While significant delays aren’t expected on these days, allowing a little extra time to get to and from school is recommended. For more information visit Council’s website www.byron.nsw.gov.au

02.01.2022 Year 12 spent their final day planting trees at the Farm for Zero Emissions Byron. A massive thank you to everyone involved, it was great to see the students contribute to such a great cause. Year 12 have had a tough final year of schooling and have handled everything thrown at them with such a positive attitude. As their Year Advisor I have seen how hard they have worked and am so proud of every single one of them. A big thank you to the Farm, the Three Blue Ducks who provided food today, Zero Emissions Byron and Michelle Lowe for organising today. Curtis Miles
