18.01.2022 Cooking for one? Roast veggies for work lunches, always handy

01.01.2022 Looking for the cure in one pill??? It's unlikely. We all have a life story ... which includes a story of health, some good, some bad, some ugly. As a naturopath with many years experience in over-the-counter (OTC) prescribing, I have served literally thousands of customers who come in to the store hoping to find a solution to their problems in a jar of pills.... As a naturopath, nothing could be further from the philosophy of our practice. Even Hippocrates started with the message of a holistic health, fresh air, sunshine, food as medicine, etc. Another prescription to add to your bag of holistic primary healthcare is emotional health. Most people intellectually understand the power of emotions, but in that sentence is the oxymoron. Check out Brene Brown's Ted Talk on vulnerability and see if this is part of your health story https://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_on_vulnerability See more

01.01.2022 I am increasingly surprised how hard it is for people to increase their intake of vegetables. With current stats suggesting most people are not even meeting the minimum recommendation of the WHO of 2 fruit/5 veg daily, is it any wonder, as naturopaths, people fall off their chair when we suggest they try to aim for 10-15 different veggies daily. What has happened?? Why are humans finding it so difficult to eat lots of vegetables? Anyhoo, I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on this subject. Meantime, here is another of the million reasons we should follow the suggestion of the wonderful Michael Pollen (author of In Defense of Food), which is "Eat food, don't eat too much and make it mostly plant food". Bon appetite! https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/891051#vp_1

01.01.2022 These days, taking probiotics is all about species and strain specificity. For example, what may be helpful for urinary tract infections can be very different to treating travellers diarrhoea or recolonising bacteria because of antibiotic use. On that note, remember to always take probiotics while you are taking antibiotics, don’t wait until you finish the course of antibiotics. Just seperate dosing by 2 hours and dose with probiotics for a minimum of 3 months. Or, mix it up with these yummy probiotic ice-cream treats Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LGG) appears useful in many conditions, such as, allergic rhinitis, IBS, eczema and vaginal thrush
