02.01.2022 "IT"S VERY DISTRESSING" - BYRON BAY'S MAIN BEACH DISAPPEARS UNDER HIGH TIDE AND DEBRIS Byron Bay’s iconic Main Beach has disappeared this morning under a high t...ide, fallen trees and debris. Byron Bay surf club life member Greg Clark described the scene as very distressing. I’ve never seen anything like it in all my life, he said. There is no beach. Mr Clark said the waves were coming right up to the sand dunes. He said the inundation and debris meant the surf club wasn’t able to get any rescue equipment onto the beach and set up a patrol. We feel like we’re stranded, we can’t do anything, Mr Clark said. We’re expecting one of the busiest summers of all time and we can’t even get onto the beach.
