22.01.2022 Member Highlight: Introducing Kirsten Butler Please find our Q & A below: Q: Kirsten, where you are from around Byron Shire and where you are originally from before moving to the area?: A: I live in Bangalow and am originally from Sydney.... Q: What do you do for work?: A: I have two businesses; I am a freelance lifestyle stylist and content creator (www.kirstenbutler.com) and the owner of May The E.K (www.maytheek.com) which is the prettiest wedding car in Byron Bay. Q: How long have you been coming to Byron Cavanbah Toastmasters club? What made you join? A: I joined on the 1st November, 2018. I have always had a fear of public speaking, mainly from school but especially after an awful nervous experience where I had to present on national TV, the experience totally freaked me out. When I moved to Byron I had a big lifestyle change and it felt like the right time to conquer this fear. Q: What skills have you acquired since joining Toastmasters? A: So many skills! Joining Toastmasters has been wonderful for personal growth. I am slowly conquering my fear of public speaking, I’m more present and aware of my words (and the use of filler words), I’ve become a better listener and I am learning the art of giving someone constructive feedback, which is something I’ve always hated doing. I have also enjoyed becoming part of the Executive Board and have enjoyed the Vice President Public Relations role within the club. Q: What makes Byron Cavanbah Toastmasters club unique and that brings you back each meeting? A: The people, we are all very unique and a little quirky which makes for a really fun Toastmasters group! Everyone is so supportive and lovely. I think it really makes our club special. I have been to other Toastmasters clubs which I have found quite boring and dry, but not our club! We play skill based games, do creative Table Topics and have the most interesting speakers from all walks of life. I always learn something from our meetings. I have also enjoyed making friends through the club, I’ve made such strong friendships through going regularly, it’s really wonderful to have this support network especially when you move to a new area. Q: What level are you up to in Pathways? A: I am up to level 2 in Innovative Planning Q: What is your favourite part of a Toastmasters meeting? Watching others grow and challenge themselves. It’s incredible to watch this happen before your eyes!

20.01.2022 Hello! Happy Monday! Just a reminder that Toastmasters will be on this evening at the Byron Bay Services Club at 6:30pm. Looking forward to seeing you tonight!

06.01.2022 Member Highlight: Introducing Kimberly Sowers Please find our Q & A below: Q. Hi Kimberly, please tell us a little bit about you. Where are you from around Byron Shire and where are you originally from before moving to the area?: A: I live in Suffolk and was living in California just prior-but lived in Hawaii for close to ten years before that . ... Q: What do you do for work?: A: I currently do content writing and editing. I am also exploring a deep passion for emotional intelligence and resilience and seeing where I want to take that. Q: How long have you been coming to Byron Cavanbah Toastmasters club? What made you join? A: Hmmmm....I think I joined last December? I have been on a bit of a professional and personal transformation and Toastmasters has come up consistently in a lot of the books, talks and podcasts I have checked out in that process. Also, I get nervous in social situations and felt like building my communication skills was a good way to counter that. Third, at the time I was still newish to the area and really wanted to meet interesting people in the community. Q: What skills have you acquired since joining Toastmasters? A: I have begun to be able to settle my nerves when I am actually speaking. I am learning where my natural talents lie and how to amplify those, and I am also learning how to get better at the things that do not come naturally to me at all - such as vocal projection, and impromptu speaking. I recently walked away from a table topics genuinely feeling like I did well. I am really proud of that because speaking off the cuff is my biggest challenge and I have forced myself to keep doing it even though up until recently I would sit down every single time feeling mortified- like, oh my god, what have I DONE???!!! lol Q: What makes Byron Cavanbah Toastmasters club unique and that brings you back each meeting? A: We just have such a lovely warm and welcoming community of interesting, ambitious individuals that I am so happy to be part of. Q: What level are you up to in Pathways? A: I am in Level One on the Effective Coaching path in Pathways Q: What is your favourite part of a Toastmasters meeting? A: Watching people come to their first few meetings shaking in their boots, hesitant at first to even give it a go, then in a relatively short period of time they are up in the front of the room absolutely slaying-this inspires me every time.
