17.01.2022 A friend is something of a conspiracy theorist, and has long proposed that Diego Garcia played a role in MH370. I am now less unconvinced. "Inexplicably, 25 minutes of data from the Diego Garcia station where the US has a secretive military base is missing. Dr Kadri said the signals his team analysed indicated a 25-minute shutdown that cannot be explained by a technical failure or maintenance, given the three hydrophones operate independently of each other.... He said the CTBTO has failed to give any reason why the data is missing, though either military action or Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 may have caused the system shutdown."

12.01.2022 Excellent article! A long read, thoroughly researched and written by a highly experienced pilot. Recommended reading for *all* those interested in aviation. https://www.nytimes.com//magaz/boeing-737-max-crashes.html

12.01.2022 Hey guys, a bit of a nice experience i had on Sunday written below, if it seems a bit generic its because I originally typed it up fir a facebook group I'm involved with; Had a bit of a special flight today. I took a young fella by the name of Bruno for a burn today. Bruno is an 18 year old kid whos had it tough. Grew up in an abusive home until the age of 9 when his Dad died of a drug over dose. At age 10 his Mum decided she couldn't take life as a mum any more and kicked hi...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Adelaide pilot leaves 'I'm bored' message and graffiti on flight radar An Adelaide pilot has taken workplace venting to new heights by etching "I'm bored" into the sky. The Diamond Star plane, operated by Flight Training Adelaide, spent a little over three hours in the air on Tuesday to draw the letters over South Australia.... The message was not seen by people on the ground, but was visible to aviation followers watching live flight tracking programs and websites. It is believed the pilot, who was working out of Parafield Airport, north of Adelaide, was "running in" a new engine. https://www.abc.net.au//bored-adelaide-pilot-leav/10829262

11.01.2022 There's old pilots, and bold pilots. And some that are completely feckin' nuts!

10.01.2022 Mount Erebus Disaster On 28 November 1979, a sightseeing aircraft carrying 257 people crashed head-on into the side of a volcano in Antarctica. 'An orchestrated... litany of lies' Putting the blame on the pilots proved controversial, though, and a second investigation was launched, this time a Royal Commission of Inquiry, New Zealand's highest level of public inquest. The results couldn't have been more different: this time, the blame landed squarely on Air New Zealand. Yes, the plane had been well below the safe altitude - but the inquiry found that the Antarctic flights had routinely flown at such extremely low levels to provide a better view for its paying customers. Even a promotional brochure for the scenic route had boasted of the scenery using photographs clearly taken from a way below the safe altitude. The Royal Commission did not only find that the airline was to blame due to the mistakes in the flight path, but it also alleged that Air New Zealand had essentially tried cover up its own responsibility: a conspiracy to blame the pilots leaving Air New Zealand morally in the clear - and also in terms of compensation payouts to the victims' relatives. Famously, the head of the inquiry, judge Peter Mahon, described the airline's defence as "an orchestrated litany of lies" - a phrase which would stick in the national consciousness. ........... "This apology is whole hearted and wide reaching," said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. "We will never know your grief, but I know the time has come to say I am sorry." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50555046

04.01.2022 CMac was a pioneer in hang gliding. He also documented what he did with Super 8 movie film at the time, which he later had transferred to VHS tape. For some rea...son he gave me these tapes, which I digitised and gave the files to Simon Plint. Simon put together a DVD of the results, including making this collage. The original Super 8 probably wasn't fantastic quality, and a couple of media conversions haven't helped, but it is what it is and a tribute to one of nature's gentlemen. It's 19 years since we lost CMac. See more

04.01.2022 On this dark day in Australia's history when an American has once more proved that he rules Australia, we all need a good laugh. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=268980843881310
