17.01.2022 Two of Jay Jermyn’s works are currently on display as part of "such structures might not be predeterminable". image 1: "An Altars Hue on Slate" 2020 frosted glass, aluminium, acrylic, slate & LED images 2 & 3: "Threshold and Life" 2020 stainless steel, noise suppressor & aluminium... "Jay Jermyn’s work I saw last year in a prize exhibition in Ballina, the sleek assemblage of materials spoke to peak industrial design, echoing rhetorics of Michael Fried’s sentiments on the performativity of minimalism. But there were other factors, there was a genuine sense of wonder put toward these materials by the artist; crystals, lights, and embedded moving images, the earnestness of the work sung, not as corny but something else I couldn’t name. It was the evidence of the artist playing as he made the work." - Marian Tubbs Jay Jermyn is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer and musician based on Queensland’s Gold Coast. He graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Media majoring in 3d Design from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University in 2017. Jay has exhibited at The Walls, Metro Arts, HOTA, Stolenspace gallery, London as well as a current artist in the Gold Coast Generate arts program. His practice explores the intersection of the digital and the physical, identity, emotion and notions of self. The works are frequently layered, collaged and spliced together with the aim of creating multiple focal points, picture planes, and ways of looking and listening. Sound is an integral part of Jay's practice and is a key member of the collaborative music project Veople. Photography by @michelleeabry.photography

16.01.2022 Here are a few more pieces from "eleven seconds". You can drop by today to view the exhibition from 10am - 3pm and have a chat with the second years students who are watching the gallery.

15.01.2022 Now showing as part of "such structures might not be predeterminable" which runs until Wednesday 24 March "Jemi Gale and Jackie De Lacy’s installation of paintings, hand-made jewellery, and a band t-shirt on a custom hanger presents a shrine-like visitation to the enduring influence of teen Russian political pop- rock duo t.A.T.u. Literally translating as this [girl] loves that [girl] t.A.T.u, became known for statements on war; they continually fought censorship and recei...ved negative critique for promoting teen lesbianism. This collaboration is new for the artists who have just finishing studies in different cities" - Marian Tubbs Jackie De Lacy is an artist and writer based on Gadigal land. They make work about anticipation. Their art work has been shown at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Pari, Tributary Projects, and Kudos amongst other spaces. Their writing has been commissioned or published by Next Wave, Murray Art Museum Albury, Runway Journal, Running Dog and NAVA. These works were all made for the anti-annual last year (the counter grad show led by UNSWAD students, protesting against staff precarity, structural racism and the institution's responses to COVID.) I was thinking a lot about fan art as an act of devotion, to others and one self. Taking the promises, the celebrations, of celebrity culture and making it your own. The work is about feeling clean and feeling beautiful. Jemi Gale is an artist and pop girl who works with emotions, painting, poetry, and curatorial practice. Based in the western suburbs of Narrm (Melbourne) her work consists of emotional responses to overwhelming events, utilising the visual language of contemporary consumerism to portray deeper truths about human frailty. Often emphasising the social importance of collaboration she assembles work from the physical and emotional detritus of everyday life. Jemi Gale has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (First Class Honours) from the Victorian College of the Arts. She has held solo exhibitions at Bus Projects and Kings Artist Run in Melbourne and participated in group exhibitions at West Space, Daine Singer, c3 Artspace, Seventh Gallery, Incinerator Gallery, Living Museum of the Wes

06.01.2022 Laura Hunt’s video "When the portal spirals you can choose where you wanna go" is now showing at the BSA Project Space Annexe as part of "such structures might not be predeterminable". "I met Laura Hunt when we both had DJ sets out the back of a defunct cinema in Hobart for an arts festival in 2018. Different to my selection of trap-rap, and banger girl hip-hop mixed with field recordings, Hunt’s performance was actually art. Shrouded in a glowing blue veil, she moved abstra...ctly across machines glowing with hums, it was grace in operation. Hunt’s video is effortlessly elusive and mesmerising. Having spent half of 2020 living and working on permaculture farms across the Northern Rivers, her new work reflects on fecund nature and ‘health’ as a creative form." - Marian Tubbs Laura Hunt is a sound and video artist based in Sydney. Her practice has seen her perform extensively locally, interstate and internationally in Europe and New Zealand. She has released music with various collaborative projects (WDK and Ghastly Spats) on labels RIP society, Body Promise and Paradise Daily. Hunt has an honours degree in Fine Arts from Sydney College of the Arts. In 2017 she completed an artist residency at Cite International des Arts, Paris. Her current practice stems from an interest in virtual modes of healing and self-hypnosis. The conceptual grounding of Hunts work sits at the intersection of desire, health, and alchemy and the innate ability to transmute energy. An interest in soil food web and nutrition led Hunt to a spend half of 2020 living and farming in the Northern Rivers. Photography by @michelleeabry.photography

06.01.2022 "Offerings" by Mashara Wachjudy is now showing as part of "such structures might not be predeterminable" which finishes this Wednesday afternoon. Mashara Wachjudy is an Australian-Javanese artist who works predominantly within photography, poetry, sculpture, food and installation. Her practice is informed by considerations and observations of memory, architecture, mythology, tradition and cross-cultural experience where unconventional archives emerge. "Mashara Wachjudy's ge...stures are not fixed, her installation shifts as the mangoes and flowers turn. The time-based work is centred on gifts and natural arrangements, replenished during the course of the exhibition." - Marian Tubbs Recent exhibitions include 'Always', commissioned by West Space, VIC for PHOTO 2021 International Festival of Photography; ‘Bara’ with Woven Kolektif at Bankstown Arts Centre; ‘looking here looking north’ with Woven Kolektif at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre; 'Too Tired' slideshow exhibition at Vermont Centre for Photography, curated by Tara Wray of Too Tired Project, Vermont USA; 'Outdoor video projection' in Kandija bay, Croatia, curated by Ela Projects (Athens), Croatia.
