25.01.2022 As we approach Christmas, is it useful to be reminded of the fifth and final YAMA! Aparigraha is concerned with freedom from greed and hoarding. It explores the idea that we should not take or collect things we do not need. During the Christmas season, we can be very tempted to over indulge. More food, more presents, more of everything. To practice Aparigraha this holiday and in your daily life, try to apply the following: - Only fill your plate with a humble amount - Cull some clothes and take them to your local charity shop - Add to the cull those little things you keep "just in case". What else do you do to apply APARIGRAHA in your life?

16.01.2022 Do you fear Handstand? Feeling some fear in Adho Mukha Vrksasana is very common for many yogis. Why is it so scary being upside down? Many people would answer that going upside down makes them feel unsafe, that they fear falling or perhaps that they aren't strong enough. While you do need arm, shoulder and ab strength to hold a handstand, you need a strong mind too. And there are rewards! Becoming comfortable with something you fear helps us to build confidence and... trust in our ability. Here are a few tips to help you start overcoming your fear of Handstand: Practice having your head lower than your seat with easier asanas such as Downward Dog, Dolphin or Standing Wide-Legged Forward Fold Practice Chaturanga Dandasana to build your arms strength Start with one leg up to practice balance and a sense of inversion. Use a wall or your yogi mate as support. Photo: @clementinebourke See more

05.01.2022 Have you tried Nadi Shodhana? This alternate nostril breathing is a beautiful technique to use when we feel a bit energetically out of balance. When you find yourself being anxious about an interview or presentation at work, uni exams or just generally stressed out, Nadi Shodhana is a quick and calming way to bring you back in alignment. It balances the brain's two hemispheres, which improves concentration and mental focus as it clears out blocked energy channels in the body.... - Sit comfortably, making sure your spine is straight, and your heart is open. - Bring your right hand just in front of your face and let your index and middle finger resting between your eyebrows. - The fingers we'll be actively using are the thumb and ring finger. - Close your eyes and firstly take a deep breath in and out through your nose. - Now close your right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale through the left nostril. - Close the left nostril with your ring finger, so both nostrils are held closed; retain your breath at the top of the inhale for a brief pause. Open your right nostril and release the breath slowly through the right side; pause briefly at the bottom of the exhale. - Inhale through the right side slowly. Hold both nostrils closed (with ring finger and thumb). Open your left nostril and release the breath slowly through the left side. Pause briefly at the bottom. - Repeat 5-10 cycles, allowing your mind to follow your inhales and exhales.
