If your office is messy and dirty, this can result in low morale and increased risk of staff illness. Below are a few tips to ensure you provide a clean and pleasant workplace. Kitchen Rules... Most office staff have some experience of working with colleagues that dont wash up after themselves and leave a mess in the kitchen. If each office employee leaves one dirty coffee cup on the sink, then this can mean in a lot of dirty cups and an unhealthy environment! In most workplaces, there are usually a few people who do most of the cleaning and this can result in resentment and bad morale. The best way to get around this issue is to discuss the different options with your staff and let them help decide on what rules should be made. This can vary from setting up a kitchen timetable with one or more persons allocated to cleaning the kitchen on a particular day. If staff are not happy with this, then you may need to allocate this task to a particular staff member but make sure they are happy with this first! If nobody volunteers to take on the task, then you may need to employ an office cleaner. Heres a great example of a real kitchen cleaning rules document. Bathrooms Finding the bathroom dirty or untidy is a regular event in an office environment and can also lower staff morale. As well as this being unpleasant for staff, it can create a very bad impression for visiting clients. Try to set up an area in the office where staff can recycle paper and empty their desk bin easily. Install a shredding machine for confidential documents and an appropriate recycle bin.
