01.01.2022 This week is National Recycling Week, encouraging us all to protect the environment by recycling where we can. Here in the Territory, our Container Deposit S...cheme (CDS) not only diverts litter from landfill, but creates jobs and enables our schools, community and sporting groups to raise much-needed funds, putting cash back into our economy. Over recent years it has been great to see organisations like Down Syndrome Association of the Northern Territory showcase their entrepreneurial spirit in making the most of these schemes. I am proud that a whopping 80% of all regulated containers sold in the NT during 2019-20 were disposed of through the CDS, paying out over $10 million to Territorians! With the Container Deposit Scheme now accessible from Nhulunbuy and East Arnhem to Darwin, Wadeye and Kintore, this initiative is delivering ongoing benefits across the Territory. Find out more about recycling your containers at https://ntepa.nt.gov.au/your-envir/container-deposit-scheme. Down Syndrome Association of the NT
