22.01.2022 The Councillors at Baw Baw Shire are bitterly disappointed with last weeks State Budget. It’s time to say publicly what everyone knows. We are being neglected h...ere because this is a safe Liberal seat. And we means our Community. We are not going to put up with it any more. We have had enormous growth thrust upon us by the State Government who then refuse to provide the infrastructure needed to cope. This can’t keep happening for much longer. We intend to support a huge petition so the Government will take notice of us. And we intend to meet as a Council on the steps of Parliament House to present it. We need the support of the public of Baw Baw Shire and we know you will help. More details soon. See more
20.01.2022 There’s been a lot to absorb over the last few days, weeks, and months. In the face of unprecedented uncertainty, it’s more important than ever that we do every...thing we can to be kind and look after each other and ourselves. If you or someone you know is in need of some extra support, visit www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au/gethelpandsupport. There are a variety of support services available to cater to people of all backgrounds, ages and orientations. The Victorian Government has also complied some helpful expert advice to help you stay positive, healthy and connected during these strange and challenging times. Below are some practical ways you can look after yourselves and others. (For more health and wellbeing advice from the Victorian Government, visit https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/mental-health-resources-coronav.) TIPS FOR STAYING CALM & HEALTHY In terms of your physical health, the most important thing you can do is maintain basic hygiene, particularly frequently washing your hands with soap or using hand sanitiser. For your mental wellbeing, there are a number of things you can do: Maintain a healthy diet, exercise and sleep regime. Talk to loved ones about worries and concerns. Engage in hobbies and enjoyable activities. Be prepared ensure you have enough food, supplies and medication on hand. Ask for help collecting these items where possible. Avoid or reduce your use of alcohol and tobacco. You may feel stressed listening to the news, so make sure you receive information through trusted and credible sources, rather than social media. Make sure one of those sources is specific to Victoria. This will help you feel more in control. If you can’t access the internet, get a friend or family member to read to you or show you the most up-to-date information from credible sources STAYING POSITIVE While it might feel like we don’t have control of current events, it’s important to remember that we can do many things to feel empowered and enabled. Find opportunities of sharing positive and hopeful stories with others, generate positive emotions by sharing memories, and take the opportunity to show acts of kindness. STAYING CONNECTED The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic highlights the importance of community and social connections in improving our health and wellbeing. Connect with friends and family: Staying connected with friends and family at this time can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. For older Australians, now might be the time to embrace technology. Younger family members can help you get set up and guide you through the process. Give it a go! If you are more comfortable with the phone, call friends and family for regular catch-ups. You could even write notes or letters. OR call for support: If you are feeling less connected as a result of COVID-19 you can also call the COVID-19 hotline (1800 675 398) and press 3. You will be connected to a volunteer from the Australian Red Cross who can link you with local supports. Look after yourselves and each other, Baw Baw. #BeKind and #StaySafe

04.01.2022 In 2015 when The Committee for Drouin was looking at the ‘assets’ of Drouin, the local people were identified as one of its greatest assets. The Stories of Drouin committee was formed and has since spent five years interviewing, recording, editing and presenting the stories of the people of Drouin and the Buln Buln Shire. We hope the stories will do justice to the legacy of those who have come before us and been part of the fabric of our district and we hope the stories will inspire those who now choose to call Drouin ‘home’. #drouin #bawbaw #gippsland
